When toying around with Elemental Mage, I discovered this one strange card collecting dust on the "I want to play someday" shelf - Anomalus. A card which has been deemed unplayable and too slow, as he basically had a card text "Hit my face". Right now, with the implementation of the Frost Lich Jaina, this boyo receives Lifesteal and huh - it does change some stuff quite drastically. When played after the DK Hero, the opponent has to get rid of him with a Polymorph-like effect or else he's going to heal you 8 for EVERY minion caught in the Deathrattle. Even if ignored, you can throw some of your small minions in before the initial KABOOM and get healed more. Just saying - 4 minions BOOMED = 32HP recovered. If there was something this card needed to get into the spotlight, I believe he got it right now. What do you guys think?
It all depends on how Lifesteal interacts with his Deathrattle, which we won't know for sure until the expansion releases and people try it out. If he's already classified as "dead", the explosion might not be given Lifesteal.
Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3
The Hero Power Lifesteal trait is passive and as the Deathrattle text states - it is Damage, that he is doing after his demise. This would suggest not only a boardclear BUT ALSO Reno like effect.

The key word there is "after". Which could mean that the Elemental known as Anomalus no longer exists, meaning there's no Elemental to be given Lifesteal anymore. At that point, the explosion could be from a neutral "dead" source.
Don't get me wrong; I want this to work. But until the interaction has been confirmed from a blue post stating that yes it'll work, or one of us players tries it out come tomorrow, there is still room for possible doubt.

I would stick with it for now. I'm not saying the card will become a staple, as he is in fact really clunky but combined with the new Hero Power for Mage, there is some great potential in this card. The new DK mage is all about value and control. Give a Boardclear minion the ability to heal you to full and you're getting some really fun card to play with.

Ah, now I get your point. Well, if the game categorizes the blow as a neutral explosion, then it won't count indeed. BUT! If the damage caused by the explosion is categorised as damage dealt BY Anomalus, the effect should work just fine. Can't wait to check this out tomorrow!
Yes! But this kind of interaction is caused by the fact that the Poisonous effect was caused by a buff and basically *stops* working after the minion has been killed. On the other hand, the effect you gain with your new Hero Power stays present for the whole duration of the game and should be present even after the minion has died.
lol... just opened a golden Anomalus... hopefully it doesn't become good.. i could really used the 1600 dust
weird logic... if it became good, you could be glad about having it, right? and if you think it's not good enough, you can still dust it. ;)
@Gloom thanks for pointing out this combo. i didn't think of it and it seems very strong. i always love when old cards, that never saw play, finally become viable... or at least somehow good. i doubt it will be good enough to be put in a deck, but it might at least become a really interesting pick from Servant of Kalimos.

haha! this is true... i'm mostly being sarcastic because it's been at the bottom of the barrel for so long and as it stands I do have plans to dust it for whatever Legendary is most broken in KFT ;)
It's a shame because the art (especially the golden animation) is super cool
I say no. Sindragosa gives you minions to ping and summon water elementals while giving value. The Lich King gives guaranteed value and protection while anomalus just stand there and your opponent kills you. I see no benefit for anomalus over other 8 drops. The biggest weakness though is that if you are ahead and have minions on board, anomalus is just dead in your hand because you can't play hime and let your opponent make a comeback.
Well, the whole idea is built around the synergy of the new HP with the Deathrattle damage dealt by Anomalus. I know the card won't suddenly become overpowered, but if the opponent chooses to ignore him and go face, you get healed for 8 every time he hits something and if he hits something over 6 attack, you get healed for 8 AND additional 8x every minion caught in the explosion. If this works as I think it will, you are basically guaranteed to get your full health back when he booms.
edit: I'm also not really sure for Sindragosa. It is basically a two edged sword, which might prove itself a little bit too clunky with the whole value generation. True - you get a legendary when you ping the token AND you get a water elemental (if already in DK form) but if you are unable to ping the token (turn 9 or no mana), your opponent can kill them and get the leggies. This is the real downside of this card.
If you have an ice block up, it will be amazing. If they don't kill anomalus and go face you can trade him in and clear their whole board as well as heal to full. Yikes.

On the third day before Witchwood, Blizzard gave to me,
Cool obs about the deathrattle gaining the Lifesteal effect, honestly doesn't feel like elemental mage will be meta though. Still going to be an aggro fest it feels like
Hmm, if a poison buffed firebat dies, its deathrattle isn't poisonous... ergo a lifesteal elemental that dies doesn't give you lifesteal?
Don't know, this game never was logical about interactions... we will see
I read somewhere that they've stated it was a bug and fixed it in the last patch, so maybe this too? although that still won't work with Toxic arrow... that would have actually made control hunter a thing.... sigh.

On the third day before Witchwood, Blizzard gave to me,
three Handlock decks,
two Molten Giants
and a winstreak to Legend Rank #3
Disclaimer: This is a fictional poem and this didn't actually happen to me.

its one more heavy drop prob it wont find a place in elem mage, elem mage is more like tempo deck rather than control
