I think that's the real challenge to win against these decks. You fight and make decisions out of multiple ones. You sometimes try to do cool combos but your opponent has other ideas like smorcing hard, killing you asap.
Versatility is healthy, especially in the meta after the nerf of Quest Rogue. We've seen so many broken cards in the past but now Standard is in a nice spot IMO.
Any OTK/TTK/combo deck. Though devs pointed out several times that the lack of interaction is not fun gor the community, they always keep giving new toys for these type of decks.
The thing is Combo decks are not consistent, they depend a lot on the draw and also on how properly the deck is played. That is why it balances itself out. When they work perfectly, they are really hard to stop, but for that to happen, a lot needs to happen properly. Blizzard say that, but at the same time they realize it's something players like, it's a different way to play the game, like they said, so it just need to be in a balanced level.
If Combo decks were extremely consistent and had the same effectiveness in the hands of a bad player and a really experienced player, then they would have a huge problem in their hands. Since Combo decks are typically played by experienced players and when played by bad players those decks perform REALLY badly, it is perfectly fine to have them.
No, that's not the point at all. No one is arguing that combo decks are OP.
The polarized nature of them, which you described very well, is the problem.
When you face one, you know that the result is going to be a complete blowout one way or the other. It depends almost completely on the luck and skill of the combo player and has very little to do with the opponent -- apart from deck choice, which is obviously set in stone once the game begins. It's either, "Oh, good, I'm playing a deck that beats this combo deck. Let's get this over with," or "Damn, I'm not playing a deck that can beat this combo deck. Let's get this over with."
That's why so many complained about Quest Rogue. Despite Blizzard's excuse at the time of the nerf, the actual numbers never really showed that it was oppressing the meta too badly, but it was a common enough deck that was simply unsatisfying to play against that it would have been unwise to leave it alone.
I think it was Donais who said that they don't mind making some tools for combo decks, but they never want to see one reach Tier 1 because most people don't enjoy seeing them very frequently in the meta.

Wtf is this poll? Why there's no any kind of mage that runs ice block aka 90% of mage decks.
