Blizzard is now crossing their once proclaimed limit - discarding cards from opponent. It seems that for many players the discard is the synonym for interactivity killer. For me personally, the Skulking Geist is a terrible card, although not because of discard itself, but the huge strength / impact of the discard.
I have seen few people in discussions point out that discard is not such a big deal in MtG thanks to Graveyard mechanic (maybe in other card games as well, I don't know). I have not played MtG, and only read about Graveyard on - https://mtg.gamepedia.com/Graveyard .
Could this be a hint at Graveyard possibly coming to Hearthstone (at some point) ? I mean, for KotFT (although thematically fitting) it would have been announced long ago. But sometimes later / in future ?
It's basically already there, just not named and visible.
Cruel Dinomancer and Onyx Bishop are examples of cards that interact with the "Graveyard". However, it seems that (unlike in MtG) there is also a distinction of how the card went there (discarded vs died), which basically means there can be many Graveyards and varying interactions with them.
re: Skulking Geist and Gnomeferatu, they could also easily add cards that say e.g. "Return a random card that was removed from your deck this game to your hand".
