The economy of time means it doesn't make much sense for me to grind building up my collection to have full access so that i can experiment with deck ideas using a greater scope of cards (I don't have nearly everything). The hours spent grinding for collection building, is worth more in monetary value per hour than just purchasing a bundle, I don't understand how people don't get that.
Exactly this. I’ve been playing since beta and I’ll readily admit that I’m in the top category. I like the game. I like having gold cards. I can afford to buy enough packs to make all of my decks gold. Why wouldn’t I?
When I look at my average annual spend, it amounts to a little more than 4 hours of work. That’s about 0.2% of my salary to support a full year. There’s no way it makes any kind of economic sense for me to try to grind that out in game.
Does my leftover WoW gold converted into tokens ($15 each) count as real money? If so, then a f*ckton. If not, then $250-500 but a large proportion of that is gift cards for miscellaneous holidays.
Between $500-$1000, started in December 2015 and I have no shame. I play this game almost every day and I like to use a wide variety of decks. But I also don't want it to be the only game I play where I would have to spend ALL of my time grinding in game money when I could just spend some real hard-earned money to buy packs. Much more efficient, either way you're investing time and time IS money.
I’ve been past the final tier for a while, but it is likely similar to how much I spent on magic the gathering as well. It’s completely dependent on your means and willingness to play, but hearthstone for me has provided so much joy in the past 5 years that I can’t think of a game I have played more, with second place being over 1000 in csgo. It’s just a good game, and Wild has provided me so much fun. Recently it’s been a bit tiring, but hearthstone is always there when I’m ready for it, and I own all of the cards anyway, so I’m not too worried
UI spent around 150$ and have an ok collection with some control meta decks here and there. Although i haven`t spent anything in the last year.
I had an idea not to spend too much, but still a little because i play a lot. With the new Year, I try to buy only the first expansion presale, so I have more packs when other expansions leave Standart. It is also easier to collect some gold for the following 2 expansions. What do you think?
I used to be an F2P player for a long time, but then I realized I'm better off buying expansions than farming for gold and take my free time elsewhere.
your profile picture got a chuckle out of me, reminds me of the (((guy))) wearing the CAT T-shirt and the cat wearing the (((guy))) T-shirt
I'd feel justified spending more, as I have sunk more hours into this than any other game in my life and I'm 43.
But it comes to just being wise with your dust. I've disenchanted cards that I wish I hadn't, like Doomsayer, Barnes, and Harrison Jones. Now, with the upcoming rotation I'm saving up gold and keeping everything.

Similar situation. BRM and LoE have some of the best first wing rewards ever, and I DEed them without second thought. Since Ben Brode already rich enough, I don't feel it's justified to not be F2P onwards.
A lil less than $2k here, but I don't find that at all ridicules. Over the course of my M:TG playing years, I spent WAY more than that, and played the game MUCH less often. That's one of the main reason I've always liked HS over M:TG, since HS came out..... you can play a HS game any time, any where. Plus, M:TG has just gotten out of control with all the new mechanics and what not. M:TG circa 1993-1997 was one of the best games to play IMO.

Been playing since just before tgt and I've spent a total of $70- preordered Whispers and bought that Mammoth bundle a few weeks ago. I have probably around 85-90% of the cards that I really want in the game, so I'm pretty satisfied with that. I'm sure I will eventually preorder another expansion at some point and I will say that the Mammoth bundle was a great deal. I would gladly spend $20 once or twice a year on something like that. In fact, if Blizzard ever decided to some sort of annual subscription for something like bonus packs throughout the year, I would be totally on board.

I've played since launch, spent $0, and to this day never felt like I needed to spend anything to compete or have fun.
Zero, though I have been playing long enough to feel bad about facing Bloodfen Raptor and the like.

A hell of a lot less than I've sunk into MTG.
Been playing this game for over 3 years and i´m glad i haven´t spent a dime on this game. Feels good. It´s just not worth it.
