Pity timer doesn't reset when you open a pack of different kind. You may open 39 Un'Goro packs without getting a legendary, then a few Classic or Old Gods packs and your next Un'Goro pack'll still contain a guaranteed legendary.

The pity timer doesn't work like that. With so many millions of players opening packs, we'd know about it if the current model were wrong.
They only give them out to prevent the pity-timer for working as most people spend their gold on the newer expansions. #exposed
