Hi! F2P player here. Just wanted to know if mass disenchanting was a good idea. Not the "I have more than two copies of a card situation," but the "I don't think I'll ever use this card.
I've been trying to hit legend, but I do not think I can make it with the decks I'm using. I'm sure most of this is a skill problem, but I've been trying for almost two years now.
TL;DR; Should I disenchant cards that I unpack that are not in top tier meta decks at the moment?
NEVER disenchant any damn cards - its even worth keeping duplicates because you never know if a card will be nerfed and thus' provide with a huge amount of dust compared to the quarter of its value it would otherwise provide.
Hell unless you are specifically going to create a specific card (or several of 'em) right there and then; there's no purpose to disenchanting cards... at all.
The decks you got right now are most likely fine and you'll need to play the game more - like it or not but getting to Legend is not about decks or skill, it is about the determination to slog through the final ranks. So ... unless you are going to disenchant cards specifically for cards you are going to use right there right then... just play more, that'll help more than destroying your collection making any potential meta changes potentially devestating and exceedingly harmful.
100%, you never know when a card could become viable and see competitive use. I feel many underutilized cards are now seeing play in this meta after the rotataion and as new archetypes were created.

Sorry, but I feel like most of anti-disexchant tips are written by guys who have spent couple of thousands on the game and don't have any problems finding dust. As F2P I have disexchanted almost every card I was sure I won't be using in near future and I have never regretted it. Cards that you craft will help you progress more than some useless shiny legendaries, which will never be used. And progress helps you getting more dust and gold to get more cards.
About duplicates - saving them is just stupid unless they are really OP and for sure to be nerfed.
Don't do it! I did it a few months ago when I came back to the game. I said to myself I'm never going to play anything other then priest, warlock or shaman. As I started to get the deeper into the game you want to try different decks. then you see a net deck that you can almost complete in another class and go hmm I'd like to give that a try.
Ultimately you lose money if you spend it, if you are F2P you lose the time invested to earn the cards you have. Don't do it

Interestig. Do you think that the way people think about disenchanting has something to do with the number of packs they open?
it really depends on the card. if its something that is universally considered trash its not that big of a risk it will see play. if its a card that sees fringe play in certain decks keep it, the return value is just so stacked against you if you ever have to re-craft it. A good way to check is search a for a card you are considering DE and see if its in any deck being played. If not, then its probably safe to DE, but don't get too greedy at the cost of your collection

Thank you. Exactly how I feel. There are only so few cards that get nerfed and they are usually obvious. Not point in saving duplicates for the sake of that. If you don't disenchant card, where will you get the dust.
I'm also all for disenchanting any legendary you aren't using.
Certain cards are just bad by default and they won't be used ever cos they are bad but for example Harrison Jones is not used but it can be used as a tech and it has potential - don't dust. Grom Hellscream is not used at the moment in any deck yet it's really good card etc. So those cards you shouldn't dust even if they don't see ANY play at all.
However, some cards like The Boogeymonster or Gruul are bad by default and do not have any form of potential cos of that. So it's very important to distinguish what is not played cos of the meta and what is not played cos it's unplayable. I made this mistake myself: disenchanted Cairne and Malygos before LoE was out - 0 decks total used them at the time, but those are not bad cards, and both saw comeback couple expansions after and I had to craft them again. So make sure you dust bad cards and not the ones that just aren't used atm.
Also you play for 2 years HS, even as F2P in 2 years it's possible to have all adventures and quite a few top tier decks, what cards are you missing exactly? What decks are you considering?
I've been on and off. I have some of the god aggro decks, and cards such as Alexstraza, Patches, and some Giants. I haven't been getting good luck on packs though.
Was planning to make Midrange Paladin, which requires a lot of dust. Which led me to asking this question.
Yeah. I dust all the shit I don't use. No point in holding on to an Alexstrazsa when I need a Malygos. Why keep Bright eyed scout when shadow visions is a card I want? Mass disenchantment feels bad, but remember you are geeting something in return and you will be surprised by how quickly you have a bunch of those cards again after a month or so of buying packs.
No. Iats a horrible idea. So I suggest to disenchant every sibgle one one by one so you know what you are disenchsnting. Sonetimes yoy dont remember so is better to know ehat u have and don't make mistakes mass disenchant ing piss
I disenchant often but my main goal is to make fun decks, when I get Bored of a card I feel fine disenchanting it for something more exciting, I believe for most people though not during is best.

Just fill your deck with one drops, that is creative deck design, right?
The logic is that if you don't have anything in mind to craft (meaning you have a purpose for it), there is no point in giving up the potential for that card to be worth more dust than normal (for nerf reasons or something similar).
Granted, as a F2P it will take a lot of time until you finally have some dust floating around without any good applicable use, but it is good practice nonetheless. Any value is value, and it adds up. The most likely scenario this will happen is when you decide to go for a deck that requires multiple legendaries/epics you don't own. You don't go about crafting what you can, you keep the disenchantable cards and open packs, in the hopes to get some of the cards you need. Eventually you'll have a reserve of dust big enough to craft all you need, and that's when you pull the trigger.

I disenchanted basically all of my hunter class lol. I never play hunter so it's no big deal but I don't think you should unless you really need to
Okay. I see your point. Novice Engineer is back, and so are some other cards as well. I'll grind out games to gain gold and experience.
Thank you for the reply.
Sounds iike something I would have done. For Shaman though.

Happened to me. I DE'd both my Djinni of Zephyrs after Karazhan and now I regret it SO MUCH! What did I get? Measly 200 dust :|

Don't think super long term about it. You don't know if you'll be playing Hearthstone in 5 years time when they finally nerf Murloc Tinyfin.

I'd agree, but Gadgetzan Ferryman ended up seeing play and everybody thought that card was dog shit

Simple rule to follow:
Don't disenchant anything, if you don't need to.
The logic is that if you don't have anything in mind to craft (meaning you have a purpose for it), there is no point in giving up the potential for that card to be worth more dust than normal (for nerf reasons or something similar).
