So, as the common knowledge states - wait for the meta to settle down before crafting cards. Thing is - I'm getting kind of impatient. I'm enjoying quest rogue and my homebrewed Wild Quest-deathrattle-reno-priest, however I'm itching to play another deck. The ones that I'm considering crafting are: Quest Warrior, Elemental Shaman and Quest mage. I'm currently at 4800 dust, however right now I'm willing to spend 2-2.4k, which also is the rough estimate I would need to spend on each of those decks. In your opinions, which one of those three is most fun while also being competitive?
The thing is, while I always loved handlock (especially during GvG - probably my favorite deck of all time) I'm not really feeling this deck right now. The only card I would need to craft for it is Elise, however I really don't understand the hype surrounding this card. It is basically add 5 random cards to your hand, and for that to even happen you need to draw another 2 mana card for it. The only reason it has a place in this deck is because, well, it fills your hand, however at the stage of the game that you're able to actually use the Un'Goro pack you should've played your drakes and giants already. So, for now the handlock is a no go for me.
I haven't played any quest decks, but from what I"m hearing from friends, Quest Mage is REALLY tricky to make it work. I've yet to see anybody win with it vs. me. Only once have I even seen anybody finish the quest, and I had fatal on the board. He didn't have enough mana to actually cast it, so he finished and quit.
I love Shaman. Golden hero, favorite class, I run 4-5 different shaman decks. But I simply CANNOT get elemental Shaman to work. To be fair, I don't have the legend, but I have basically all the other cards and the mechanic is just awkward. It's a much harder deck to build than it seems. Haven't tinkered with it enough to say much.
Anecdotally, Quest Warrior is what I'd build. Reasons: (1) the counter to quests is aggro, the counter to aggro is taunt, and the Warrior quest is taunt, so the Warrior quest is the counter to its own counter; (2) the counter to Die Insect is spread out the board with small minions, but warrior has plenty of small minion removal; (3) if they play big against you, Brawl + Die Insect and keep loading taunts on the board.
I'm sure there is a counter is a quest warrior but I can't figure out what it is. I have only beat this deck twice, and both times I won before they finished the quest - I'm not sure what they were doing, they just DIDN'T play any taunts. If they had, they'd have won. There are too many taunts, they're too big, and you can draw them situationally with I Know a Guy.
I'm also holding off but that's the one I'm leaning towards. The only reason I don't pull the trigger is that the deck just looks boring to play. Hunter quest looks way more fun but I've never seen a Hunter finish that one either. Also never seen a Druid, Warlock, or Paladin finish their quest. Never even seen anybody play the Shaman quest.
yeh you dont need elise in the deck but thats what i thought too then i gave it a try and i was surprised to see my winrate go up because im an old school handlock player i know how to master and pilot the deck im 2 stars away from legend with this deck and im actually so surprised. dont play quest mage on the ladder you wont hit legend with it. its so slow and not enough board answers. while playing handlock on the ladder ivw won against elemental shaman, taunt warriors (play juraxxus before they get sulfuras), rogues and priests and pirate warrios and have good winrates against them all (70%). you should give it a try man but its up to you this deck worked for me when none else did i was in the exact same position as you.
Out of the 3 decks you suggest in OP, Quest warrior probably has the most counterplay for various decks (e.g Quest mage/quest rogue/pirate warrior) while still being a competent all-rounder. That said; all the decks are viable and whatever you enjoy the most is probably the best call.

Look, I want to tell you something because you're very dear to me. And I hope you understand that it comes from the bottom of my damaged, damaged heart. You are the finest piece of ass I've ever had and I don't care who knows it. I am so glad that I got to roam those hillsides.

Elise isn't even all that necessary, for all the reasons you said yourself. Even Trump said he only ran it because he basically ran it in every deck. He loves the value too much. The only place Elise has imo is in Priest with Shadow Visions. Otherwise it's rarely an auto-include.
I wouldn't discount the viability of Handlock just yet. The 3-mana 4/8 makes Taunt walls happen more often, stopping aggro in its tracks. In fact in my experience laddering so far, now is the time to use big Taunt decks like Handlock and Purify Priest, as Quest Rogue and Pirate Rogue haven't learned to tech in Sap and Execute just yet. They have nothing against huge Taunts. Plus the only thing you have to craft for Plantlock is well... the Plant.
If you want something new from your list of three, I'd go with Quest Warrior first, Elemental Shaman second, Quest Mage dead last. There are too many aggro on the ladder for Mage to "assemble Exodia". I'm currently running C'Thun Quest Warrior instead of the typical one just to have a secondary win condition. I don't agree with many Quest Warrior lists running Shield Slam because the Quest removes Armor Up, but with Ancient Shieldbearer in a C'Thun Quest deck, it still has value. Plus, Crazed Worshipper and Disciple of C'Thun helps with aggro.
Ended up crafting the warrior deck - tbh it was the one I was leaning towards the most, but I still wanted to hear other peoples' opinion. However, please do keep adding your suggestions if you have them - there's still more than 2k dust I have available!

That's so funny, I ran C'Thun Warrior all through the last meta. I hit golden Priest in February and wasn't sure what else to play, so I went with that deck, I hadn't seen it since Mean Streets. It was still very viable. I even survived an attack of the Aviana C'Thun druid once with it.

Slow down there, 2k dust is not a lot. I'd save it for when the meta settles. If you're still itching for a new deck, I suggest either joining the Quest Rogue cancer or Standard Quest Priest. I think both are safe once the meta settles.

Mostly Trump's list (I mean, a Handlock pretty much needs specific cards), but Twisting Nether instead of Elise. If you want something that feels newer, try the Warlock Quest + Deathwing and no other discard cards, for some lategame steam.

Jade druid counter taunt warrior too (an army of jade golems are more powerful than the ragnaros hero power).
I dont play anyone of the decks that op suggested, but I think that the funniest is quest mague, because each game will be completly different deppending on the random spells you get.
I've seen one [1] Jade Druid deck since release; that isn't a concern.

i crafted DOG's handlock and went from rank 5 to rank 3 with it on a streak , its pretty good and fun
