The last time sets rotated out, when GVG and NAXX rotated out I had a BLAST playing Hearthstone. It was probably the funnest 3 weeks of Hearthstone I've ever had. I was so looking forward to that feeling again with this rotation. But, It just isn't there for me.
I'm not quite sure why. Maybe it's just that it's harder to experiment with new decks because of how prohibitively expensive it is in the Quest meta. I don't want to spend 1600 x 9 to try out all the decks. But, maybe that's a 'me' problem and not a Hearthstone problem. Maybe the cards just aren't as fun? Maybe I'm just having Hearthstone fatigue?
I don't know. I miss the rush of the last rotation though. Taht was great. This almost feels like I want to sit out (yet another) set and wait for the next one.
I'm guessing it's just a 'me' thing. Lots of folks seemed to be totally stoked by the MSoG meta, but, I just never got into it. I'm not even sure what I expect anymore. I can't really pinpoint why it was so fun last time, and just meh now. I'm just not excited about any of the decks. I'm not excited to build new and fresh ideas. Maybe it's that the last 2 sets (MSoG and UNG) have been so pigeonholed into the deck building, with little left for players to invent?
Anyway. I wanted to get some feedback from you fellas. ARe you having the same experience this rotation as you did last time?
I'm just playing Quest Rogue and I'm having fun, but not always. This deck is broken but only with good draw. But I like Taunt Warrior more, because it's a control warrior, I was waiting for it to return. So maybe I'm not having as much fun as at previous rotation but it's just that meta has to stabilise.
It's a little better than the MSG launch. I just auto-concede vs the brainless Shitquest Rogues and I have more fun when I don't have to deal with that trash.
I am thinking it may be a problem with WHY different people enjoy the game. After all, folks enjoy Heartstone for different reasons. I think I'm a builder. In almost any game, I'm a builder. I like to explore new combinations. In the previous rotation I loved trying to figure out how to use N'zoth and the Priest resurrest cards. It really wasn't a given how to use them. (and Resurrect never took off, but, I had a blast trying to make it work) So, I feel like there was a lot for a 'builder' to play with then. And the power level of opposing decks was never that high outside of Shaman. You felt like you could take your janky Resurrect deck on the ladder and do ok, (accepting auto-losses when you faced Shaman, but ONLY Shaman).
I think what has been missing from Hearthstone the last couple of releases is that sort of Resurrect idea. Something to play with, that isn't great, but, you feel like if you sprinkle the right mix on it, you might have a deck that is GOOD and different than the pack. The last couple of releases seem like you either play the decks that are fairly obvious, or get plowed by EVERY class you face. Dear god, can you imagine trying to run a Res Priest in this meta? How 'cute' would that be?
So, long story short... I think the Game has abandoned 'builders' but that is probably only one small subset of player types. I'm going to assume that you focus more on the playing of the game than the building of decks. That probably explains why you are having a great time, where I'm feeling a little left in the cold.
But it does not contradict your thoughts, my expectations was just low. When last rotation happened, lots of toxic cards many tired of play againsts (shredder, shielded minibot, mechs in general, dr boom - just to name a few) left. People were given an option to play in ladder without those cards - standart, it felt fresh and unique at that time. And you can't just reproduce joy of that 1st-time experience that easily, As for now, from the decks everyone was tired - only dragon priest and reno left, the most toxic - pirate warrior and jades stayed.
Not only that, the expansion which started last standart cycle - old gods, was absolutely best thing i experienced in hearthstone, had absolute blast with it. While ungoro is alright and definitely feels more fun to me than msg was, it is not nearly good as old gods was. Still can have a lot of joy for first day of expansion while everyone experimented with cool silly new decks (a lot more aggro now, as usual though - freaking pirate warriors are making me sad).
I don't want to spend 1600 x 9 to try out all the decks.
You don't have to. Play whatever you like.
Also, with the dust returns from Sylv and co. You can craft at least 2 more legendaries (4 if you got them golden), so what's your problem?
Well, I crafted the Warrior Quest last night. Played it maybe 15 times. Already bored of it. It's probably a fine deck. But, it's not engaging my imagination. I don't feel like there is much 'building space' left to explore. The deck basically builds itself.
It's probably just a 'me' problem. I'm very happy you are enjoying the game! Don't let me bring you down. I love Hearthstone, just not getting the enjoyment I used to is all.

I dunno... I guess all of the new quests just feel stupid to play against.
Barnabus comes out and you're like "Kay I hope I can remove the last 13 7+ drops in his deck"
Crystal Core comes out on turn 5 and you're like "Well I guess I lose to his boars"
Sulfuras comes out and you're like "Well this was control v. control but now I'm just getting shit on"
It's all just predictable and feels bad.
I love the new meta. Can't craft quests? Make a cheap Murloc Aggro Shaman and punish their asses. Or even pull out the Pirate War...
These decks are only viable right now because people are experimenting. Find a new aggro/tempo deck to punish them.

I'm having a good time, I've got like 4 different decks to rotate between though.

I miss the days were I could use a random control deck and bring it to rank 5. Now it's just not worth the time and effort anymore.
Not sure if hyped yet.
I'm loving wild but standard is pretty much mostly pirate warr and quest rogue for me :/ rest are also already full netdecks, in wild also
I think this is the launch with least creativity so far, it took all of one day for almost every opponent to run netdecks :/
Nope. Ungoro is great so far.
Then fucking play taunt warrior...

I know dat feeling bro, Hearthstone became less fun with those Pirate Warriors and Shitquest Rogues. But its only my opinion...

I like the idea of Quests but the are unbalanced and some are to OP. Rogue is insane and Mage is maybe the most boring deck ever to play against.
i'm havin way more fun than i expected actually.

Expected zero fun.
Had some fun crushing greedy decks with PW.
I have a strong feeling that new HS has even less balance atm then before. If it's even posible.
Back to PoE then. Will prolong my pause in running for faerie dragon. Want adventures back.
Hall of Fame (ignore list): aleathas, Baylith, cendol, DiamondDM13, Dominieq, doomr, glitterprincess, hamtarofr, Heck, Jwigg33, Kaladin, Krewger, Legend_Entomber, libertyprime, Maukiepaukie, PandarenHero, randjob, s2mikey, SchruteBucks, The_Giratina, TheWamts, ticandtac, tictactucroc, tsudecimo, WaffleMonstr
The Mage quest deck is obviously tailored for Freeze Mage. So, it will be boring.
Been playing with Tempo/Elemental Mage that is quite a blast to play.
