supposingly control paladin has favorable matchup with priest
Control paladin here, I believe this is false ^ Every time I get thought steal I expect him to drop tirion or any other legendary I have, and even if he doesn't get him, he'll just steal it anyway ! Control pally is a reactive archetype atm (we'll see if it stays like that now with the new meta) but I feel priests can win the reactive game vs paladin. Also, they will win in attrition most of the time. Just my 0,02 $ ;)
Dude, this a "I cant stand priest discussion". If you cant stand it then you are wrong here. There a enough "F?*% hunter discussions" I'm sure you are not complaining about.
Btw: nice nick - you seem to be a really nice person, too. And now, hoop hoop go for rank 24.
As a ramp player who has been dry humping my new glorious fatty-mech-fat-fat minions, Lightbomb is a great cause of concern. Most of my minions would get wrecked by that nasty spell :(
Lightbomb didn't hurt me much as druid. I mean...it was a problem for sure, but he had to trade to make it effective (with the exception of my lore that I had out). I'm curious though, which mech fatties are you including? I was thinking of mech yeti but wasn't sure if it gave priest an edge that I didn't want them to have.
I read through this thread and laughed at all the salty remarks about priest being OP. They have been traditionally one of the weakest classes and although they now have a stronger deck they take considerable skill to play with well. Far more than the aggro players use with their ridiculous OP hunter decks. People just don't like playing a board control and card advantage type of game which is far more skilled than rushing an opponent. Priest playing style is similar to arena which I love because it takes a lot more skill to be an infinite arena player than get to legend in my opinion.
I play priest, ramp druid and handlock. Those latter two decks crush priest. If you don't like the rock quit smashing your scissors on it and cover it with paper. Stop whining and learn to play against a class that has never been OP. I'm not saying this won't change in GvG btw.
Kaile your priest defence is touching... just face the fact it is the most defensive and reactive class to play so many people regards it as annoying and not manly. It's not hard to play, it has very good and very cheap cards and it's the only class in the game that extensively uses opponents cards which is imo unfair and broken. You like to play an OP class that doesn't require strategy? Fine with me but really there is nothing to be excited about. Play something harder and more demanding and stop wasting the forum space for posts like the one above. What does fav class have to do with someone's opinion? Mine is Paladin - will it make you not read my post too?
DKnG666 strikes again! I'm also confused about how being manly comes into things. I'm sure we could study any form of "manly" matial arts and see it's riddled with reactionary/defensive techniques. And priest is hardly OP, you clear their early board if they are tempo, or you just get rid of their very few threats if they're control. If you just bum rush your threats out asap, of course you get blown out. Sure they are annoying, but hardly OP.
Sure, but then there's the legendary that summons a minions when you cast a spell, SW:D useless against that. And the priest has a plethora of healing spells that they can't cast when the anti-spell minions are out (and priests don't always have a SW:P in your hand, and even if you do it forces you to cast it on that minion, making it act as a soft taunt).
i think some people are misunderstanding the point of this thread, its not that priest is op, because its not. its that priest is SUPER ANNOYING AND ABSOLUTELY NO FUN TO PLAY AGAINST,
This is bullshit and a completely personal opinion. I like playing against priest, I mostly play warrior and guess what - I have a good winrate against them. Those games always go to fatigue and that's the style I love to play. I hate playing against brainless aggro decks even though as a control player you have means to defend well, it just feels cheap to copy a deck that is made of a low dust amount and make a few trades + rest go face. As a control player who plays every class I despise all aggro decks because they take less skill to play and when they get salty about anything it feels so ironic. However it should never be a point in a discussion which class you personally find annoying or not because everyone is different in this regard. The only thing that concerns me is if a class/card is being broken or not and that is not so easy to judge, you need to play a ton of games with and against that class (with many classes).
Priest is profoundly overpowered, and easily the only viable class right now. When one class stands far and away above the rest, it needs a nerf. All of the change Gnomes vs. Goblins would like to see happen is being NULLIFIED by the new priest decks. You litterally cannot beat them without designing your deck specifically to do so, which means playing for the super lategame, and even then they have mind control and cabal shadow priest to ruin your day. As card games evolve, the metagame is supposed to become quicker, with the early sequences of plays being of paramount important. Priest has no bad lines of play, it litterally only preys on the opponents deck. Beating priest is like a battle with yourself, not really against them. It makes the game tremendously less fun, when every deck I face past rank 8 is a priest deck.
And blizzard didn't test constructed at all before they printed these cards, because they have no idea how to. They ruined the game, and I'm probably done playing it. 1500 constructed wins later, the game is worse than it was with Pagle/Tinkmaster/ and Novice at 1/2.
My main gripe, is that the best class is one that degenerates the metagame into a slow, 15-20 turn win style of gameplay. Other decks are trying to apply pressure, and innovate the strongest strategies toward killing the opponent. Priest plays Auchenai/Circle, Disciple, and Shadow words to just destroy every other class. Really upset with the lack of balance after this expansion, and we will see the tournaments flooded with every player on Priest. You have my word on that.
Also, playing control is not more "skillful" then playing aggro. What do you think is harder to be successful with in this metagame? Doesn't that mean that aggro is more skillful than control right now? Yeah, it is. If you like playing a 30 turn card game, you're probably not coming from an eternal mtg backround, like I am. I would rather the game be over in 7-10 turns, because that should be enough to determine a winner. Always being able to cast your massive bombs is a design flaw in the game right now.
priest is highly annoying now, ill give you that. they were already strong before and irritating as fuck. But they arent indestructible. i run all over them with zoo or hunter, and can beat them with control decks as well. Maybe its because i invested alot of time into playing priest before because regardless of how annoying it is and everything, it is kind of one of the harder classes to play as and do so well. Ive always viewed things like this; if you cant beat em, join em and learn what they do so if you play something else you have their mindstate as well as your own.

Professional poker player, rank 28 legend na season 1? I'm a druid player.
Building a tempo or aggro oriented deck that is VIABLE in this metagame, requires tremendous skill.
Playing it perfectly also requires tremendous understanding. What's so hard about compiling the most efficient answers in the game into a control strategy, and always drawing into the perfect stuff? At least aggro and tempo decks require decent openers to win. If you think finding the correct lines of play in a 7 card hand is hard, then you're at the bottom of the rungs of card game understanding. Having lots of options requires LESS skill to win.
But hearthstone players aren't even coming from TCG backgrounds mostly, so why am I even trying
The reason its op is because Shadow Word: Pain answers Sludge Belcher, and lots of other 3 power stuff. Circle of Healing Auchenai answers 4 toughness stuff, and their new two drop makes Cabal Shadow absurd. They also have the best 1 drop and 3 drop in the game. That's just way too many tools for one class to have, especially when they synergize so well. So, you can't answer Northshire Cleric without going DOWN on cards, because playing any proactive creatures in the first turns is an exercise in futility. Make circle of healing cost something for gods sake, and make Auchenai have 4 toughness.
The more cards that come out the more I hate priests too. but they are very gimmicky and can be dispatched if they don't have the cards they need at the right time.

How to become ∞ at arena: - practice, practice, win, dominate, profit.
20K G's saved up every new expansion.
i agree.. priest is the most annoying class by far in this game.. also they get all the insane cards all the time (I am looking at you Vol'jin)
Time is money, friend.

Priest has more counters then ever before with all of the "Gain X when your opponent casts a spell" cards in GvG (+Loatheb).
If they become prominent, there are plenty of counters.
