I was just wondering - if I play a Charged Hammer, does anyone know whether if I play another weapon afterwards (causing the Hammer to be destroyed and replaced), the Deathrattle still copmes into effect?
Toying with a novelty Shaman Weapon deck, and thought this might be a neat trick.
Not only you playing another weapon will activate the deathrattle; your opponent playing a weapon removal or even blingtron will cause the weapon's deathrattle to activate as well.
Yeah, this is not a "trick" at all, it's just dumb. Paying 4+ mana to get a slightly less terrible hero power will lose you so much tempo to lose 80% of the games.

You seem to forget having access to a 2/4 weapons for up to 4 turns, along with a guaranteed 2-dmg ping which is TWICE as good as the Mage Power. I'm not sure where having a Hero power that deals 2 damage to anything is dumb. Maybe I missed it...

This thread is on forcing the deathrattle on the weapon, which is implying you don't use the charges. A 2 attack weapon is terrible from turn 4 onwards, the deathrattle is only there to alleviate this disadvantage. It costs you 4 mana + the second weapon you're going to play (two cards), so the game has to last veeeery long to make that tempo loss pay off. This is really not a viable move if you want to play competitively.

In this meta yes but when the card was released it was insane in a control based shaman deck, you're not paying 4mana for just a changed HP your also paying for the weapon itself. Mage HP with 2 damage yes please!

It's just too slow now to be viable.
Oops scorpion beat me to it.
If i have learned anything from the history of hearthstone, it's that there will never be a meta slow enough to make these greedy hypothetical wombocombos work consistently. And i've even seen people pull off that supergreedy Aviana/Kun-Stuff. I'm sorry to be the negative nancy in this thread, but that's just how it works.

While I agree with your sentiment about combos this weapon isn't a greedy combo card, it's a control weapon. It can add pressure late game but is control first. Hardly what you are implying.

Yes, it's a control card, and a very slow one at that. This thread is EXPLICITLY about reducing its value even more by triggering the deathrattle yourself by another card, thus a combo.

Yes that will work. I have done it with Deathbite into War ax multiple times
i use the charged hammer and yes, when you play a new weapon you get a shinny new heropower :)

Cool - I wasn't sure if it would be considered "destroyed" or "replaced", (as in, if there was a difference)

I built a weapon deck based on this mechanic. It was so-so, I need to tweak it more.
The finisher is:
Play Sir Finley at some point to get Hunter (ideal) or Mage hero power. Druid claw also helps.
Hit opponent with Arcane Shot (2 mana), play charged hammer (4 mana), hit face, play jade claws (2) mana, use new hero power to hit face (2 mana).
