The jury has come back from deliberation and the verdict is that people LOVE Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft! It's a phenomenally designed and immensely fun entry in to the world of Collectible Card Games. However there is certainly something that prevents a lot of people from playing the game and that is the randomness of relying on getting cards solely from packs and arena prizes. If a player starts up the game, has played a Druid in World of Warcraft for the past several years and wants to play with their favorite class in Hearthstone they have to rely heavily on the luck of the draw from packs in order to construct the deck of their choice and even if they shove out $50 for a stack of 40 Expert Packs they're not even guaranteed to have the dust to construct a reasonable deck in any given class. To remedy this problem and to get more people to buy in to the game (thusly supporting the developers) so they can fall in love with the franchise and start playing immediately I suggest adding Starter Decks to the shop.
Going off of the recently posted drop rate for rare cards if a Starter Deck consisted of 20 total cards the ratio would be as follows:
Common: 14 Rare: 4 Epic: 1 Legendary: 1
A starter deck could retail for anywhere between $14.99 and $24.99 USD and be reasonable, but for what you lose in quantity of cards compared to purchased Expert Packs you gain in specificity of opening exactly what you want for the most part. The cards within the starter deck should have a 0% chance of being golden with maybe the exception of the singular Legendary card as a means for blizzard to entice people even more to purchase the deck and to sort of mimic the concept of a single "foil" card in common starter decks in other TCGs. Personally I would make the golden legendary in the starter decks have alternate card art than their normal version available from expert packs and grant them Soulbound status so it doesn't turn in to any sort of gold farming resource. An alternative also would be to have the player unlock this special Golden Legendary as a "quest" reward similar to that of Old Murk-Eye where the special legendary is only unlocked after the deck has been purchased the first time.
Why is there not a "sustain" option? Personally, I'm STRICTLY a free to play player, but in my opinion, buyable starter decks is a good idea once they've put out more cards. Right now, I think there just isn't enough cards in the game to justify making a starter deck. You get a decent percentage of the cards from the starter deck and levelling up. The starter deck would almost exclusively give you cards from the Expert Set.
Well that's the point of the starter deck, to give you cards from the Expert Pack, since obviously you can just level the class up to 10 and unlock all of the soulbound cards. Buying a starter deck would be a cost efficient way for people to jumpstart their collection for specifically one class so they don't feel like they're at a total and complete disadvantage on the ladder as they won't have to grind quite as much to get a usable legendary, an epic or two and some usable rares and commons other than just relying on every class using Acidic Swamp Ooze, Chillwind Yeti and Bolderfist Ogre regardless of whether or not those cards are even good in their desired deck. Also it gives players far less arcane dust per dollar / coin so if the player chooses to switch classes or wants to play another one it's good for Blizzard's pocket that they're completely invested in one class for the most part other than maybe a few overlapping neutral commons and rares.
I completely disagree with everything you just said. If you spend $50 on packs that will give you 40 packs, the average pack yields 75-100 dust. That will yield you between 3-4k in dust assuming you don't get something you want for the class your playing which is more than enough to create a decent deck for any class out there Assuming you don't have a problem dusting cards you don't need for the deck you want. I literally just started playing on the EU server this week and have this deck completely f2p. Is it the best deck ever? No? But is it competitive enough? Absolutely. Also your example list is a trash deck. If the goal is to make a decent deck by spending cash for a starter set it would have to at least have Force of Nature since druids main win condition is drawing the Force of NatureSavage Roar Combo.
$50 is more than twice what the starter deck would probably cost. I agree on the Force of Nature thing. But even from your dust estimates the total yield for spending half as much on packs (equivalent of the starter deck) would give you enough to craft exactly 1 legendary and only a handfull of other cards, where as with the starter deck you spend the same amount of money, get a useful legend, an epic (or two), a handful of rares, and a bunch of playable commons; all of which go towards the class you intend on playing to some extent.
What if the game eventually came out with a "collectors" pack, You could spend something like $5 or $10, and get 50(or whatever number you can think of that would be good) cards that were only common and rare(one of the ones that are rare). This would of course span across all the classes.
Your 'starter deck' is the complete basic card collection you have when you start the game and it's quite a big set of cards relative to the total amount of cards. At least in comparrison to other card games, where you start with nothing. So i disagree with the need of your mentioned starter decks. You will just have to make do with the cards you begin with and the random cards you get from packs and arena rewards.
You don't start the game with ANY cards other than the soulbound class and neutral cards. And everyone knows that with just these soulbound cards and nothing else it is impossible to compete on any competitive level, you will have to play a lot to slowly grind out gold to build a deck. Yes, it's possible to build a cheap deck starting this way and make it to legend, but that severely limits the types of decks you can play and obtain the resources for in a reasonable amount of time without busting open tons and tons of packs. In order to get more people in to the game offering a means to get a reasonable sample of competitively viable Expert Pack cards that synergize with a designated class would not only get more people to spend actual money on the game (something blizzard wants) and start playing the game on a higher level of competitive viability.
Why spend $20 on a game you want to play only to gain limited access to the deck you ACTUALLY want to play with? The goal is to get people to spend money and I don't see how this wouldn't help.
it would be even more pay2win if u had guaranteed legendary every time, mby if it was designed in such way, that u would get legendary only from the first one ...

1x Ancient of Lore
1x Keeper of the Grove
1x Starfall

1x Azure Drake
2x Druid of the Claw
2x Harvest Golem
2x Wrath
2x Loot Hoarder
2x Argent Squire
2x Power of the Wild
1x Stranglethorn Tiger
1x Spellbreaker
Heck yes sounds like a good cash cow that I'd throw money at

I used him before together with Rag. Now his spot becomes Cairne. Just too situational and inconsistent.

tl;dr not really neccesary.
