The game is free to play, not free to have everything. Blizzard is a company and companies exist to make money. They love to have the F2P players, but those players don't keep them in business at the end of the day. You can reasonably play Hearthstone without spending a dime and still have a decent collection and be able to build a variety of decks. If you are expecting you should have more than that without spending any money you're delusional and overly entitled.
The problem is the reward structure for Constructed is under-rewarding and a complete mess. If you're a good Arena player you can be F2P easily like myself...I've gotten thousands of packs from Arena, plus all the gold and card rewards on top. It's only hard being f2p if your a bad player.
I completely agree that the reward structure for Constructed is lacking. Unless you're a streamer or trying to break out as a pro there is little incentive to spend all the time grinding ranks just to get what amounts to a tiny bit of extra dust.
There's not supposed to be much of an external reward. Climbing the ladder is for people who are intrinsically motivated to compete and achieve. If that's not you, you're probably better off in casual or just playing with friends.
This is a GAME. You're supposed to play it because it's FUN, not because someone hands you a cookie every time you win.

I enjoy the game and play plenty in ranked and casual (when I'm testing out ideas or just building goofy decks). One of the gripes I have is that you can't work your way towards golden heroes by playing anything except Ranked. So if you want to collect all the cool stuff in the game you have to go grind the ladder at some point. The tiny 5-15 dust they give you is just a laughable amount of dust to even bother giving. They should just replace that with another gold common or maybe a pack. It wouldn't cost them much to swap that out to help the F2P players, which is what the topic of this thread is about. I don't believe F2P players should easily get everything, but it couldn't hurt to use that as another way to support them.

If you're playing in Ranked because you want the golden portrait, then that's your reward. (And it is pretty much the only "cool stuff" that requires ladder play.) The little bit of dust is just a bonus; it's not meant to be your primary incentive.
Every little thing they do to "help" f2p players is one more thing that will prevent an f2p from converting to a paying customer. There's truly no reason to try to make them happier than they are. They will ALWAYS want more free stuff.

There's this one thing, that really annoys me when we talk f2p/p2w in Hearthstone, and that is the fact, that people for some reason expect to play a fullpowered game, without investing anything in it.
You are more than welcome to complain about p2w games, such as Street Fighter x Tekken, where you - besides having payed the price of a full game - could pay further for gameplay enhancements, that would give you an unfair advantage in PvP, because that is a obvious example of the gamedevelopers who speculate in how to disrupt the fair play in a multiplayer setting, in order to make profit.
In Hearthstone, you haven't payed for more than you are willing to, but still have full access to the game. Even further, the game actually gives you rewards so you can save money. The payoff is time, but you aren't forced, and you can in theory still get all the legendarys you need in one pack, and superior epics and rares in the next.
But you chose the option to play the slow route, instead of investing in the game - exactly like you do with any other game, paying for it. And because people pay for it, Blizzard continues to develop on it, and that is the main reason only.
Like you said, you pay in time. And what has Blizz done by getting rid of adventures for another expansion? Increased the time cost.
If they lowered the card pool for each expansion and stopped packing them with filler trash it'd make up for it but when was the last time that was the case? If they lowered the dust cost of cards from old expansions it would bridge the gap too but I can't see Blizzard doing anything to raise the value of individual packs when, as evidenced by posters in this thread, they have plenty of fanboys more than happy to throw more money at them for less.
arena is really gambling. And you just waste the gold to get MSG pack. Amd very hard for us to learn arena due to limited gold. 1 bad run = waiting 2-3 day for next run. Even you grind up 100 gold+ quest . You also can 1 run per day. Basically you earn nothing at the end ig you unlucky.
to become better , you need to grind arena. Pro arena streamer have grind mote than 1k games to become good arena player. Impossible to f2p player to learn.

I had a very different experience with the Arena. As a new player, you get to play some fancy cards you don't have, and possibly will never have. You play on the equal footing with others because they can't bring their fancy decks brimming with orange and purple. If your drafting skills are low, you can use exterior tools. Every game is different and you can rarely say "I'm screwed" on the first turn like in Constructed.
The rewards aren't that bad either. Worst case scenario, one arena run costs you 45 gold, but this happens rarely. Of course it's less viable when you don't need current packs and prefer to save gold. Personally I prefer to burn as much gold as I can on arena after expansion releases, because I'm not able to compete on the ladder anyway. Bigger problem for me is time requirement.
One last thing is a plethora of videos and streams done by very skilled players, that can really help with the learning process. Just pause every turn and compare your plays to the streamer's ones.

Playing Hearthstone in German solely for Garrosh sounds. Sieg oder Tod!
I gotta have to say if you are willing to disenchant all wild cards, you are very much able to survive as a free 2 play player. But what's the idea of disenchanting all your hardly grinded cards?!?
I don't care, it doesn't matter. Already stopped playing Hearthstone for good, because what Blizz is doing here is a huge joke. Playing yugioh now and that's way better than anything else. Even the AI's you're playing are way better than whatever. Like the adventure bosses could have been pirate warriors and shamans and THAT would be a challenge to beat those guys
If you are smart and lucky with your daily quests and only play ladder you can make around 5K gold every month. Relax people you'll still be able to get the new cards.

You're trolling right?! You stopped playing Hearthstone cause Blizzard is a joke and you went to Konami?! If that's true you've made my day dude... Seriously, Blizzard sucks at balancing their game, but even if they take ages to do the most obvious things I still think the developers actually care a little bit about their players (I mean I just can't believe Ben Brode wants just to make more money and doesn't care about people having fun)... Konami on the other hand hasn't released a banlist in 8 months (and there's no word on it being released anytime soon) the meta is more fucked up than ever with a single Deck making 70% of it and that we all know isn't going to be hit cause its set just came out and they need to make money out of it.... Also, only God knows what will happen when that new mechanic gets here... C'mon you've got to be kidding, Yugioh is the king of powercreep, awful card design and it's owned by the greediest company ever.... I just can't believe you really think it's better than Hearthstone....
In the end: YES it is a ripoff-year. No Adventure, removals of evergreen cards, standard... it all shows that blizzard want to make quick cash with hearthstone. Maybe the revenue weren't as good as expected with Meme Streets of Gadgetzan, so they need to find ways for profit maximizing. This and the LAZYNESS of blizzard to create meaningful and good cards and stick with aggro aggro and aggro (and always giving aggro tools to go faster and faster while control giving absolutely nothing except lategame minions that NOBODY can play) and especially the unwillingness to change cards before the game gets permanently damaged shows that all what the hearthstone-team care is money.

You realize that your accusations contradict themselves? If Team 5's goal was to require the average payer to pay as much as possible to be competitive, they would make Reno or other very expensive decks the flavor of the month, because they require players to acquire more valuable cards. In the same vein, often changing cards would require players to have a larger collection, as more cards would go in and out of flavor.
So please, the next time you come up with conspiracy theories, make at least sure that they are internally consistent.

You think that they would make MORE money if the would make it as you said. And there you are WRONG. They want aggro to be strong (maybe not as strong as it is now), simply because Hearthstone is a mobile game. And let's be real: most mobile gamers want a quick match, not control ones, no a game that they can play while driving in the train or bus. And they also only pay a specific amount for it, not too much. If the game becomes unplayable for pe
And in this way, Meme streets of gadgetzan is a SUCCESS!. Patches the Pirate is a staple in every aggro deck out there; heck, he is even played in aggro-druid decks with another pirate, simply because it's so strong.
Still: i think that they didn't want it to be so aggro-centric as it is now. You can see it on Dirty Rat. An expensive card that they hoped people craft it to prevent aggro-decks becoming too strong. And someone there thought it's actually a good idea, creating a similar card to Deathlord. But in the end it was a counter to control, not aggro. Also they also thought the Grimy Goons Mechanic would actually be better as it is. (and that warriors would play more goons than pirates). So yes, decks nowadays seems cheap, but only because blizzard hoped for it to be different. It's not that they wanted to have too much cheap aggro decks around, they want to sell more packs for people who want to play controllish-games for sure.
In the end it's either that Team 5 is incompetent or look only for a quick cash grab or both.

8 months? Duel links is out since barely 2.5 months now. They have a ban list and will eventually put cards in when the next 2 boosters are rotating out of the shop. I'm not kidding at all, in fact it is Blizzard who is kidding. We were saying that we want Yogg to be banned, it got nerfed. We wanted a lot of other cards to be banned from tournaments, nothing changed, in fact we had to wait 6 months to see SOMETHING changing, even tough the meta didn't change at all. Konami otherwise is actually listening to people more than I thought, even without reading in reddit. We said that we want a new booster pack, BAM and we got 3 new booster packs in 2 months. We wanted a cool tournament where everyone can compete and has the same chances, we got KC cup and it actually was a success and everyone was just playing it, hell they even played at 5:00 AM just to stay in top 10'000. Don't make me laugh bro, Blizz is just a cash grabbing money machine who won't ever change. And if they change, it will already be too late
I was wondering what freebies we might get with the new year. Sort of how we got C'thun for free last time. My guess is that they might just give us a Quest, or maybe all of them. Or maybe give us a quest to earn a Quest. Something to get the cards into the hands of new players.
Just wild speculation. But, it would certainly make the set more affordable.
There is a big difference between "free to play" and "free to have a complete and quickly up to date collection"
I did an experiment yesterday and rolled a free to play account as I couldn't remember what the new player experience was like or how long it would take to make any sort of competitive deck.
In short it took a couple of hours
After playing through the into and the MSG quests I was able to make a pretty good attempt at a Jade Druid (also ran a small C'thun package of 2X Beckoner of Evil, 1 X dark arakkoa & C'thun to fill some gaps and because it entertained me) I got from rank 25-18 in short order (to be clear I'm not HS genius and rarely get beyond rank 12-10) so was happy that I could hit rank 15 if I put the time in.
From here on out I'm sure it will be hard going to fill out the missing cards from this or any other Tier 1/2 deck as I only intend to do the daily quest and run arena whenever I hit 150g (I tend to average 3-4 wins so feel like this is a profit) but to suggest FTP is RIP... I think isn't true.
Looking forward to the freebies coming our way at the launch of Un'Goro as they seem pretty good (better than MSG but maybe less than Old Gods still?)

I've been playing on YGOPRO for years and I can ensure you that Konami has nothing to do with it.... There are multiple version of it around and they're all updated by people that know how to code the cards into the game but none of them has nothing to do with Konami .... The only reason that program is still running is cause, unlike DN,AFAIK it doesn't violate any law so they can't shut it down....

save 1st. play when new expansion released.
