i just got @ss raped with no lube.. 2 arena runs and both packs were... all duplicate!!!! i dont even have tons of cards really.. It would be nice if commons yielded slightly more dust but.. eh oh well
just an unlucky day tho i guess... my last 3 packs have been utter trash
and mental note to self.. never pick warrior in arena ever again
D'awww everyone complaining about getting a few doubles. Let me just pull out my 10 lb bin of mtg commons that have almost no value whatsoever. People don't understand that you can at least DE the extras from these random packs to make cards you actually need. I could buy 50 magic packs and find only a few cards I'll actually use, but never that one legendary I really want (and it may cost $5-10 online). We have it so easy, press one button to turn all those doubles into a legendary you really want. It may take a while, but if you enjoy the game then it's worth it.
not complaining just venting on my last few packs.
about your post though and a word of advice to people here that are frustrated.. when crafting... never craft a common i dont care how good it is.. you will eventually get it... also.. when crafting rares.. dont go to overboard with it as you will get a lot of duplicate ones later on that you crafted.. its not very efficient way of spending your dust.. id recomend trying to only craft epic and legendary cards.. 30 - 40 packs into the game you will have every common and alot of the rares..
i messed up here when i started and which i could go back in time.. i crafted some of the better commons that i wanted and had to have them now.. well guess what, since, i have gotten no telling how many duplicates of the ones i crafted. same thing with the rares....
if i could go back id use all that dust on a legendary that i reallly want bad
yea its not that high.. and like you said thats based on a much larger number. this is why you see people complaining.. not everyone gets that kind of value of 107 per pack as an average.. the ones you see all :( are the ones getting the 40 dust value packs...
im not complaing cause like its been stated.. its free to play and you can nearly get a pack a day just with your time... but i can see where some of the ppl that get pissed are coming from.
dust value in general is pretty low.... 40 to craft a common but 5 back when disenchanting.. so basily when you dc a common your getting 1/8 of the value and it would take you 8 commons to have the dust to craft one.
rares on the other hand are not that bad... you can get 20 dust for a rare where as it costs you 100 to make.. thats only a 1/5 value.
there is no incentive for them to do it but i think the dust values could be raised up slightly... i think 10 for a common would not be that bad of a thing and wouldnt be asking a whole lot.. i mean even at 10 it would take you what like 140 commons to dust and craft a legendary...
of course if you bumped up the value of commons ud have to bump up the value of all other cards also... i think 1/4 value is a fair trade off on all. maybe i should start a petition lol

I'm sure there is a formula as to why the values are the way the values are. Remember this is a free to play game.
At 2 packs for $3 .... thats $1.50 per pack (100g)
At 15 packs for $20... thats $1.33 per pack (100g)
At 40 packs for $50... thats $1.25 per pack(100g)
How ever you want to look at it Blizzard gives you roughly .50 cents a day (40g daily quest) in value just to play their game. Simply put if they increased dust value returns they would be giving away too much free value and people would obtain all the cards too fast then bitch to blizzard on why they are too slow at putting out an expansion pack.
Don't craft anything unless it's a must have for the deck you're currently using heavily (for ranking up or grinding golden portrait) or a golden naxxramas card because you can't get those anywhere other than crafting.
The biggest mistake people do is dust something they think is unimportant in their current deck but regret it later when they play other classes. I always frown whenever I see noobs say in the forum that they dusted Sylvanas or Harrison Jones to get a Ragnaros.... Ragnarok may be better for a lot of decks, but it's not worth dusting a Sylvanas or Harrison which is vital in many control decks.
im not talking about cost of packs im talking about the ratio of disenchanting.. its very different with rares and commons compared to epics and legendaries...
the ratio should be the same across the board wether its a free to play game or not.. in my opinion
disenchant 4 commons get a common.. disenchant 4 rares... get a rare.. disenchant 4 epics get a epic.... this is still a huge profit margin for the system.. however.. currently it would take you 8 common disenchants in order to craft one common... currently the way i look at it.. it even hurts them! for example the more cards i get i will be significantly less likely to buy anything with real money from them because chances are each pack is going to contain 4 duplicate commons with a value of 20 dust.. if i aimed for say one epic (400) dust, I would have to have 20 packs worth of the duplicate commons to craft the one epic I had in mind.. so to me there is no value on it to spend any real money the more cards that I obtain. However if the value of commons and rares were at least 4to1 I would be more inclined to purchase packs...
the only reason their system works profitably for them is that the mindless masses don't see it for what it is and the ratio difference...
mathematically you would be retarded to spend money for packs as you obtained a decent amount of cards. A good sign for this would be if you open a pack that contains all duplicates.. if you reach that point I would highly advise not to spend your money!
Most people are too distracted by the rarity of cards. You don't need a dozen legendaries or epics in a solid deck. You can run a Hunter with a budget of less than 3k dust (about half a month worth of gold grinding and performing average in Arena) and perform extremely well to the point of reaching legendary rank no problem.
Also your budget for cards and dust should come mostly from Arena runs winning an average of 4-5 wins, not buying packs. Packs are never a good way to spend your gold and even if you don't win as much in Arena when you start, you will get the hang of it and win consistently as you understand how cards work, which ones are good on the draft, and learn card combos/interaction.
If you win 3, it's a break even with a small chance of getting a little more while 7 or more wins is when it gets much more rewarding with chances of getting gold cards that you can dust for a considerable amount and also get a gold refund of what you spent in the Arena.

Totally with you on this. The really problem here is that the gold to dust exchange ratio is so pathetic. At the start, you get to discover lots of new cards, thus the total dust gain is very high. Let's say you open a regular pack with 1 rare + 4 commons, all new cards, you just effectively added 100 + 40 x 4 = 260 dust to your collection even though it's the worst possible pack! Now after you get a decent collection, you will get lots of duplicates, since you already have them, the most sensible thing to do is to DE. That same pack with 5 duplicates are now only worth 20 + 5 x 4 = 40 dust value. You need to get 40 such packs to craft a new Legendary of your choice which just sucks. You feel like getting stuck with the same collection forever until you magically pull a new card that you didn't have before.
This is the reason why you should never purchase the second 40 packs with real money, the first 40 packs is really useful in expanding your collection, the second one is a waste as it mostly turns to dust. Btw this problem has nothing to do with playing arena vs buying packs with gold since it's not like arena packs contains better cards than bought packs.
What I wanna see is a random crafting function like other RPG games when you put 4 cards of the same rarity into the machine and press the button to get a new random card with better rarity. If you still get a duplicate, too bad, but still better than the current system.
So you're complaining about LEGENDARY cards having value? The fact of the matter is not only is blizzard giving you .50 to .75 cents a day in value, but they also let you get extra value in worthless cards.
"Ok but give me a trade system so i can get more value for those cards."
Ok so we get rid of the crafting system, and allow trades. The price of useful legendary cards will literally skyrocket. There arent enough packs being opened daily from people playing for free to account for the amount of demand for those legendary cards. In an earlier post they said the drop rate of a legend is like 1%? So 1 in a 100 packs? Not to mention that there is 35 different legendary cards and most of them being next to useless. Have fun with that.
You stated that you got 300 dust each time you DE duplicates from your 15 packs almost enough to create an epic. If you got all 1 rare 4 common packs you, and you have all the commons, every 15 packs should yield 300 dust in commons alone. So not only are you getting the full value of the new rares but you're getting icing on the cake of being able to construct an Epic card you want for "free".
All I'm trying to say is that if you want to play for free, getting nice things takes time. You'll have to invest a lot of time into this game, if you don't want to spend so much time there is always an alternative... money. How much is your time worth to you?
I hope there are better alternative options rather than buying regular packs and pray for a good RNG. Something more expensive but less random like Epic Expert pack: 400 g, contains at least 1 epic card, Legendary Expert pack: 1000 g, contains at least 1 Legendary card or Dust pack: 100 g, contains 150 dusts.
They have something similar to this in Solforge... you can buy a chest that is guaranteed legendary cards but its a one time buy which is fair imo.
I'm tracking all the packs I open in Google Sheets, because my primary fun in this game is building a collection. I agree that you should never craft commons, but still RNG is RNG. Still the most memorable pack opening was when I finally got my first Harvest Golem in a 65th pack after almost 2 month playing. I was more excited than opening a 2 legendary pack. Honestly.
But I see nothing wrong with the current pack system. It can be frustrating sometimes getting only 40 gold quests for 5+ days in a row and crap 40 dust packs, but then *BANG!* here's your legendary! It's a part of this game's fun.
Still the most memorable pack opening was when I finally got my first Harvest Golem in a 65th pack after almost 2 month playing. I was more excited than opening a 2 legendary pack. Honestly.
Brutal. It's sooooo inefficient to craft commons, but if you suffer and suffer and suffer without a particular key common, it's pretty gruelling.
Luckily I'm not sure there are any significant ones I have none of, but I'm still waiting for my second Harvest Golem and my second Earthen Ring Farseer. Damned if I'm going to burn dust crafting them, though.
I only crafted 2 x Argent Commander and 1x Azure Drake when I first started. I had to play with crappy decks with many basic commons for 2 months before I have enough cards for Zoo. It was painful at the time but now looking back, it was extremely fun :D.
So you're complaining about LEGENDARY cards having value? ..........................
no i think their value is fine. epics and legendaries have a 4:1 dust ratio
my problem is that commons and rares have a 8:1 and 5: dust ratio..
I would just like to see an even 4:1 dust ratio across the board
as I said... there is no incentive at my point to buy any more expert packs because 9 times out of 10 I am going to get all duplicates. With that and dust value so low on rares and commons there is just no point in me spending my real money. If the dust value from disenchanting on commons and rares was bumped up by 5 dust I would be happy to buy packs. this would make them 10 and 25 and also 4:1
all I am getting at is Blizzard knows perfectly well what they are doing here. It works for them because ppl are retarded. I'm just here to spread some light on it.
never craft commons, if you ever get a complete pack of all duplicates at that point never buy any more packs with real money.. like someone else said first 40 packs is a pretty good idea...
I would be fine with that but the cards by themselves better be expensive, like $50 for a legendary, $30 for an Epic, $15 for a rare, and $5 for a Common. Golden versions would be 3x of those prices.

1 rare 4 commons (which is the most common pack) = 40 dust
thats enough to craft 1 common of your choice for an entire pack.
