I mean, On the Hunt, Alleycat, Smuggler's Crate. All these cards are interesting and I really want to play them, but I simply can't afford to include any low-mana cards cause of Hunter's lack of card draw. Usually, Hunter immediately loses the board and the game if he draws 1-drop at turn 8. In what archetype of Hunter these cheap cards is meant to use?
Warrior and Shaman are doing well without card draw, it's not crucial for aggro decks.
If you absolutely need draw, there is Loot Hoarder, Azure Drake, The Curator, Grimestreet Informant and Jeweled Scarab, most of which gain more value through Brann Bronzebeard.
Not saying this makes Hunter good, it's certainly pretty shit atm, but the tools do exist.
I certainly think Hunter needs some love (though it's nice not to have to deal with Hunter's OP Hero Power for a while).
They got really shafted on the cards this time round. I'm surprised there wasn't a sort of "Patches" card for beasts. Patches should have been a beast, definitely - being a pirate is just... weird.
There are many factors that contribute to hunter being shit in the current meta(most of them have to do with the fact that you get hit with arcanite reapers and 7/7's in the face), but the lack of high power value cards is definitely not one of them, espcially in the mid game.
Take a look at infested wolf, houndmaster, highmane and call of the wild(which is still broken at 9 mana, if the hunter is allowed to live until then).
In fairness, one would hardly call Infested Wolf or Houndmaster "high powered" cards. They are mediocre at best with some usability. A 3/3 for 4 mana (even if it spawns to 1/1s) is pretty terrible!

Houndmaster is OK. Infested wolf is mediocre, yes. It's easily can be 4/3 or 3/4 and still be far of the top 4-drop in the game.
Low mana beasts... It's as if they want a resurgence of Starving Buzzard or something...
I don't think so. I think "they intentionally nerfed *card name* really hard because they didn't want people to play that card anymore" is also a buzzard's case.
I would have considered Houndmaster as being slightly better, but the amount of times he sits uselessy in your hand due to no beasts available, or you topdeck him on the empty draw and groan.
He's unfortunately too reliant on other factors to be good enough most of the time (for me at least).

This is just not true. The combined stats already peak at 5/5(obviously it's not as good as a vanilla 4 mana 5/5, but still) and when you take into account the fact that it essentially guarantees you a houndmaster, kill command or whatever beast synergy card target for the next turn, the card becomes bonkers. The fact people used to run it in face hunter, a deck which has no business running cards like this, should be enough to tell you how good it is.
Also, let's not forget about the other new cards hunter got(namely rat pack and dispatch kodo), which are amazing tempo cards.
The real reason midrange hunter sucks in the current meta is because it doesn't tend to favor midrange decks(and face hunter just does it worse than the other aggro decks). It has nothing to do with the class being inherently bad. If people suddenly started playing control warrior, renolock and other slow control decks over everything else, I could definitely see a spike in the class's popularity.
well i remember when they were talking about Lock'n'Load, devs mentioned that because of that card low cheap hunter spells are quite dangerous obviously, Hunter's Mark was nerfed in case of Yogg'n'Load Hunter
so i guess in next standard rotation we may see more good and cheap hunter spells.
and yeah (DISCLAIMER: NOT SALT), if Small-Time Buccaneer was 1\1, Alleycat will be extremely good. nuts' level, i doubt.
I'm glad hunter got shafted. Finally no more hunter face decks.
Can you imagine? Pirate warrior, face hunter, face shaman, anyfin pala.
This game suffers a big disease called aggro and it needs to be toned down. Time for warrior to get the shaft next expansion.
What's the point of all these expensive legendaries when people only play with cheap cards anyway?
You know that current face decks are at least as effective as FH was back in the days right ? And that it is precisely warrior - the supposed "control" class - that is leading the charge ?
Back on topic though, I agree that Hunter's current status is linked to the current meta rather than the class itself (this isn't true for Paladin). It gets out-SMOrced by pirate decks and out-valued by Reno decks. Give Hunter a 1 AND 2 mana weapon and it will join Shaman and Warrior in the SMOrc fiesta.

I totally agree with you - apart from the idea that Warrior is supposed to just be a "Control" class. I'm certain it was never intended to be only this. There were plenty of options for Aggro Warriors even early on - but they were just pants! Heh!

Crushing your opponent's face with 7/4 Arcanite Reaper and playing 4 mana 7/7 is far more intelligent I suppose.

Both On the Hunt and Alleycat can be useful in the midgame as cheap beast trigger, eg for getting the 5dmg from Kill Command or a cheap Houndmaster target or 2 extra dmg when you have Tundra Rhino
Cult Master is neutral though. You could only argue that Hunter has an abundance of dying minions through its sticky DR minions and UTH.

Legend x1: 27th season - N'Zoth Rogue only.
The 1st step towards a better game is firing Mike Donais! We had enough of his "skillful" balances!

Custom cards :
CLASSES : Alchemist (CCC#5 | Phase V) | Chef (CCC#4)
EXPANSIONS : Year of the Scorpion (Year Comp)
How difficult would it be to get to rank 5 with hunter right now?
I'm trying to do this right now without too much success.
Now it is almost impossible to reach even rank 10 for Hunter.
