I have a couple of times now come across someone who plays Barnes and it pulls out Ysharrj and then another Ysharrj. And the fact I have only ever seen it do this leads me to wonder - do they not put any other minions in the deck? What's the deal there? How do they manage to get Ysharrj TWICE every time without fail?

They run only Barnes and Y'Shraaj in that deck along with 28 spells, and just hope they win the 50/50 and get Barnes in their hand before Y'Shraaj.

Hokay! I figured they must have. Just surprised by it! Heh!
In hunter decks Ysharrij is very cool. If your deck contain cards like Savanah, Rag, Infested Wolf, KG ... maybe Rhino ... I can say anything usefull without battlecry

This was mostly in that Tavern Brawl where you draw 1 mana card on turn 1, 2 mana on turn 2, and so on.
Another trick in this deck was that it was mostly Warlock and had Renounce Darkness at 2 mana, and after pulling Barnes and Y'Shraaj, they play Renounce Darkness after that to convert all those spells into usable cards :P
Actually if you're going 2nd you'll have 4 cards + coin + t1 draw = 6 cards. Not that you need that 6th card, frostbolt+fireblast+Pyrox2+Fireball is already 30dmg...

I was playing my Secret Mage yesterday and got my best (for this deck) turn 1 (Mana Ring) draw:
Mana Wyrm + Ring + Kabal Lackey + Counterspell
(Giving me a 3/3, a 2/1 and protection from removal)
While it's by no means the "best" turn 1 available out there, it got me wondering what other folks' dream turn 1 plays are.
And yes, you can include Patches if that's what floats your boat! ;-)
Innervate, Innervate, Barnes ---> Ysharrj ---> Ysharrj
A question on Ysharrj actually.

not hearing "who goes tharr?"
Just surprised by it! Heh!
Probably was a hunter deck Scorpyon :) Works quite well! I have seen versions who also put in Savannah Highmane or Sylv. next to Ysaarg.
Turn 1 Innervate -> The Coin -> Violet Teacher -> Innervate -> Living Roots -> Mark of the Lotus.
I saw that happening on stream.
Also OP, the "Mana Ring" is called The Coin.
Custom cards :
CLASSES : Alchemist (CCC#5 | Phase V) | Chef (CCC#4)
EXPANSIONS : Year of the Scorpion (Year Comp)

Being able to look at my hand without knowing with almost full certainty how the game will end.
Which, for the record, is a very rare thing these days.
I really like the idea of Astral Communion decks, so innervate + innervate + astral communion or just innervate + the coin + astral communion.
Sadly I almost never get both innervate and astral communion before turn 4 and I end up ramping with nourish :/
Which is why I almost never play the deck
coin - unstable portal - spell slinger - preparation - unstable portal - edwin vancleef
My opponent's coin+Dirty Rat, summoning my Tirion Fordring.
Opponent plays Innervate -> Millhouse Manastorm + Innervate -> Dirty Rat who pulls my Malygos
Sinister Strike X2 + Eviscerate X2
One day it will happen...
Check out my OTK chargfury shaman deck.
My turn 1 dream; Not seeing Patches and Small-Time Bucanneer ever again.
