A game needs players. This is foremost above everything. Yes, this is above making it fun or balanced. (Although if a game isn't fun or balanced, then there won't be players) So, a game like Hearthstone needs something to keep players. The natural exit point of a CCG is when you have all the (playable) cards, because at that point, why would you bother playing and grinding? So, ideally, the game will make it hard for you to get all the cards. You can call it greedy, but it's what keeps the game alive, and it's why you're still playing the game now.
Next, there are a lot of bad decks in Hearthstone and you guys can't stop complaining about it. This is true, judging by my recent 23% winrate with my drunk decks. But, it doesn't matter. Bad decks can not hurt the game. It does not make the game unfun or unbalanced when you're given free choice over what to play. It does not skew the meta, since anyone playing for the meta would only play the good decks (or they'll smash their face against the meta wall with Control Murloc Rogue like an idiot, but idiots can't be designed around).
What does hurt the game is when one deck is better than the other good decks. Hearthstone has done a very good job of making sure that doesn't happen, with the obvious exception of the mistake called Patron Warrior. And yes, they did overnerf it when they made Warsong a useless card, but that just serves as a reminder of why it should never be allowed to happen.
One more thing, to everyone complains about the designers pushing decks: You're all idiots. You guys are the ones playing the decks. Yes, it's true that some decks will get better cards than other decks... but that's not what pushing a deck is. The big difference between this and pushing a deck is that it's not one deck (or decktype) getting all the good tools, its many decks of many different playstyles.
I was going to talk about the whole Standard/Wild split here, but that one's been talked to death already and if you're still against cards rotating to Wild, then I'm sorry, but you're not worth engaging.
And here we have nothing else than blinded fanboyism from TheWamtsas always. If Blizzard decides to stop supporting this game and shut down the servers forever tomorrow for whatever reason, this guy will still support them no matter what.

Nothing new to see here people.
It is kind of hilarious to see the amount of people who complain about every deck being the same and then whine and bitch about T5 making Purify.
You can't shake up anything if you don't make new cards, guys. No, Silence Priest isn't a thing, but I'd rather they try to shake it up than play Dragon Priest and Reno Priest 9 times out of 10. Shadow Priest is honestly what they should be pushing for in all honesty. Not the "We both take damage but I can heal myself" type of way either; give us a minion that puts us in Shadowform as a Battlecry/Deathrattle.

Make it 1mana or able to target enemy minions and Priests will play it. Make it 2mana, self-harmful and requiring already having a minion and the only thing you're promoting are Priests suiciding themselves.
Card text is irrelevant when mana cost makes it unplayable.

No, that's not it at all.
Why would anyone play a deck where you have to have a minion AND a spell in order to be able to attack? Silence Priest was a bust from the start because it's too much of a hassle to go through when you could easily play just straight minions. Wouldn't have mattered if it was 1 mana or could cast on enemy minions.
You're not a designer. When you can come up with the multitude of reasons why things should or shouldn't be a certain way, THEN you can talk about design.

Thanks, I'll take your expertise over that of the pro players and streamers who think otherwise.

Which I just did. Funny thing is, "designers" aren't infallible. When Call of the Wild was announced everyone and their aunts commented how giving it an 8mana cost was insanely cheap for a power card like that. Everyone except Team5 of course.
A few months later, guess what? They had to nerf it. Turns out the "designers" were wrong here, and we were right. I can talk about design as much as I want because turns out the guys in charge aren't as smart as you seem to believe them.
We are getting sidetracked. Yes, silence priest was never and will never be a competitive deck in its current incarnation. However, I agree with Vernula. At least they tried something new. Yes it failed rather spectacularly, but it was a new way of playing the game and that, at least, was fun. I hope Blizzards never stops creating cards to push new archetypes, even if we do get some cards like purify out of it. Also, that battlecry shadow form effect sounds awesome. I would totally give that a try.

You last response is hilariously lacking in self-awareness.
Again, he isn't wrong. Mana cost is the prolific leveler, oftentimes, of what makes cards playable or not. And the additional, mandatory stipulation-effect (needing a friendly target) for Purify relegates it the the garbage bin.
I've played Silence variants (early Druid, during Undertaker Hunter), and they really aren't as terrible as people seem to think. It could have been viable-- Purify could have been a big push for feasibility. Instead, they made a meme-deck ingredient.
If you want to play strange decks with gimmicky themes, that's legitimately awesome. Seriously! Your argument sounds like an appeal to casual playstyle, And that's fine. But the stark reality of it is that there is a GREAT MANY players who want to play what WINS.
Sub-optimal trash like Purify doesn't win, except with insane draws and an inability to get a read from the opponent.

They could have tried seriously. If you want Silence Priest to be a thing than give him powerful cards to support that motif. Purify was a joke with nothing else to sustain it and clearly designed as that.
Your quest to ruin these boards continues, TheWamts. Are you sponsored by tempostorm or something?
I've worked with game design, and I suspect several others on these boards have as well. And even for those who haven't, user input is far from irrelevant.
As usual you drop down some big claims and then underhandedly claim everyone who disagrees is an idiot or incompetent. Please change your shtick, it's really getting old - and it is making these forums a pain.

That I will definitely agree with. I am glad Blizzard wanted to push another archetype but you are absolutely right. I would have been quite happy to see silence priest actually work. As it stands, the card quality is far too low to make it a competitive deck. While I hope Blizzard keeps coming up with new archetypes, it would be nice if they were afforded a bit more support within the set. Here's hoping that there are many more fun new archetypes in the future.
