Hello. I have been playing hearthstone since release and have been a big fan of the game since. I feel like I am one of those players that has the potential to reach legend, but has never really had the push or motivation (You probably haven't heard that one before haha). I also work a full time job 50-60 hours a week so I don't have as much time as a lot of other players to play the game (in addition to other personal things I have to do). I get to rank 5 pretty easily every season without any issues just for the increased chest.
Anyway, with the new expansion coming out at the beginning of the month in addition to having two 3 day weekends at the end of the month I decided to make a push for legend. All I can say is: wow I never realized what a pain in the ass it actually is (for an average player at least). Needless to say I've still not reaches legend yet, and I've peaked at rank 2 +3 stars. I've been playing renolock all season and all I can say it it feels very swingy. I've gone one 10+ game winstreaks like it was nothing but at the same time I've gone on lose streaks that de-rank me 1-2 ranks.
I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like it's taking a long time for me to reach legend, if I even reach it this season. I'm currently at rank 4 with a few stars. I'm at ~300 games played this season with renolock with about a 53%-54% winrate. At the same time, I've seen people where it has taken them 300 WINS to reach legend rank. So anyway this got me thinking and I wanted to compare to players who have gotten legend (hopefully for reassurance). To all legend players: how long did it take for you to get legend? What season(s) did you achieve it? Which deck(s) did you use? what was your winrate %? how many games did you play? how many weeks into the season did you get it? Etc.
I got legend with freeze mage in the secret paladin era, with about 65% winrate. How many games? I don't know, 150-200? I also got legend with midrange druid somewhere before the secret paladin shenanigans. I think my winrate then was about the same, at least it was over 60%. I did it pretty much the same both times, played to rank 5 the first few days and pushed to legend with about 10 days left in the season.
This season I'm sitting at just under 70% winrate with miracle rogue, at rank 3. I've had a bit more time to play this season than I usually have, but unless I hit a fairly good streak, I don't think I'll have time to get to legend.
With just over 50% winrate, I wouldn't even bother trying to make legend since it takes sooo many games.

how long did it take for you to get legend? Seeing that this is season 33 right? September was my 1st time hitting legend. I have been playing before Goblins. Which deck(s) did you use? Dragon Priest, but my more successful deck is my own altered secrete hunter, as shown below. how many weeks into the season did you get it? Very last week I actually attempted and made it with my secrete hunter.

Measure your win ration once again starting from 0-0 and rank youre currently at. From what i understand this win ratio has been achieved by winning games on lower ranks aswell thus may not be true at all below rank 5. If its not above 50% then youre gonna have a hard time reaching legend this season.

Yeah I was at 60% at one point but unfortunately I had a bad losing streak which tanked my win percentage to just above 50%. I've since managed to get it up to 53-54% like I mentioned. I was thinking of starting fresh next season.
I hit legend for the thrid time this month and I wanted to say that it never felt easier than this season...
There are so many decks which have the potential to carry you to legend in the current meta and I think that a lot of players reached it for the first time after the MsoG release.
I had such a hard grind last season with midrange shaman, had 4 chances to hit legend and lost those 4 games and stopped playing for the last 2 or 3 days of the month...
After MsoG release, I played pirate warrior from rank 16 to 5 in 2 days but stuck at this rank and switched to aggro shaman to hit legend after I stopped playing during the week and only played on weekends.
After I tracked my games, I noticed that I had much better results when played at weekend than during the week after my 9 hours working day at office.
I often felt tired when I returned home from work and I found out that this has affected my winrate.
Yesterday I hit top 800 Legend for the first time and I feel like I can reach top 100 this months.
Got legend in september with face hunter in wild befire abusive nerf people really weren't prepared for turn 5 lethal, it was funny seeing them throwing eater of secrets expecting SP match ups.. I had 72 WR took me like 4 hours from rank 2 to legend, veforehand got there with n'zoth secret paladin but I got walled by people teched agaibst midrange so I embraced the face
I got Legend last month with Midrange Shaman. All I did was to play as I always do, a few games per day, and I found myself at rank 5 quickly enough so I decided to push for Legend for my first time. I played just 2 days for more than 1-2 hours: the first day I played for 6 hours, the second for like 10 hours. I haven't recorded anything so unfortunately I can't give you stats, but I think it took me like 180 games to achieve Legend. That is because I had like 130 wins on shaman from 20 and I imagine I didn't have the best winrate.
The only advice I can give you is to not switch Renolock for a faster deck. Just spend a lot more time than usual for 2 days and you should get there.

If you're thinking about pushing next month, then you might as well get a bit of practice in and keep playing this season. Check your win percentages against different decks and if some seem lower than they should be, you can try to evaluate if you're doing something wrong in that matchup. A big part of having a good winrate is anticipating what your opponent is going to do, and what he wants to do. As well as having a clear idea of how you should play every matchup. To do this, one really have to play a fair bit of hearthstone. I don't play as much as I used to and I feel that it's hurting my gameplay a lot.
Here's the statics.. took me 25 games and the meta was mostly midrange hunters the deck is obviously outdated if you want I think I have an updated wild face hunter in my profile(with pirates)
If you really wanna try to actually think about your opponents possible next turns, how he reacts to your board or cards, which possibilities he has to clear some high value cards like Edwin/Auctioneer/Questing and if some of them are already out, sometimes going risky because he should have no answers, then ROGUE'S just your deck!
You have to think like that about whatever you're playing, more or less.
I appreciate the tips from everyone, but that's not what I made this post for. My biggest problem is that I don't have a very long attention span and when I play a lot of games in a row I start getting burnt out and playing too fast and don't take enough time thinking out my turns properly. I also get frustrated when I spend 20+ minutes winning against another reno deck just to lose the next game in 2 minutes to pirate warrior because I didn't draw correctly or they had a great curve. I start to lose patience and it affects my gameplay. I know how to win with the deck and I did have a 60% winrate at one point an was at rank 2 3 stars, I just play for too long and it gets to me. I dipped down to just above 50% winrate and have now managed to get it back up to 54% so I am going positive. I feel confident that I know what I have to to get to legend I just need to figure out how to play around my own personal fatigue (no pun intended) Anyway I do appreciate the input but I really wanted to see other players' experiences in getting to legend for comparison
Actually you need more time for rank 5 to legend part. It just took me 3 days from rank 4 to 3( i played 4 hours everyday.) . And 2 days from rank 3 to legend. It is more about luck than skill actually.
last time i reached legend, right before the MSG release, i went 32-7 after reaching rank 5...sure it was with midrange shaman but i still sleep like a baby at night
i know you just wanted stats, but other people's stats are meaningless, there is very little skill in any one game, or even in 40 games. Play 40 games and pay attention each time to how much of an impact you really have. You're playing renolock, so yeah you get rolled sometimes by rogue/warrior/shaman decks, and you also get outlucked by other reno priest/lock/mage decks. i was playing combo renolock at rank 4-5 earlier this week and 3 consecutive games the other reno deck played dirty rat with a 50% or less chance of pulling leeroy from hand, and all three times it pulled leeroy, severely dropping my chances of winning thru no fault of my own. So, sure, sometimes there's nothing you can do. But watch for the opposite games, the ones where it didn't make that much difference which one of your cards you played, you were going to win no matter what. People like reno decks because they trick you into thinking you are a special snowflake that brilliantly piloted your deck into victory...but if say 40% of the time you lose no matter what you do, wouldn't it make sense that 40% of the time you win no matter what you do?
Anyway if you're capable of getting to rank 2 or 3, you can reach legend but sheer variance may make you lose your way back to 6 before you hit that block where you are 25 games over .500
Every season I reach rank 5, same as you, except for this one.
I took a full day out of my vacation to play only hearthstone and I got legend after like 6 hours non-stop playing. It's really not hard, anyone who can get rank 5 can get legend, all you need is to waste your time.
Just as a sidenote, inspired by this thread I pushed to legend with miracle rogue today. 67% winrate, but I only played rogue from rank 6 or something. I imagine it took about 120-150 games in total.
It takes way too much time, I wouldnt recommend it. You have to dedicate your life to the game more or less and the payout is miniscule. I achieved legend once in the secret paladin era with a combination of mid range shaman (before it was cool) and control priest. I enjoyed myself up until rank 4 when I realized there was no longer a skill gap and then it was just a grind for about 75 games.
Went for Legend again this month with a twist. Made legend in both wild and standard, only progressing on the other if both of them are at least the same rank ie if standard is 4 i work on wild till it becomes 4 as well. Reached my goal in a little over a week without exceeding daily 100gold limits
I played sience beta and hit legend a few times. I work full time, wife and 2 kids so yeah the time is not on my side. But the first time was under tye rel. Of GvG. I told my wife "Baby girl, i have something important for me to do right now. Give me a few days" She is awere of my gaming hobby so she toke the kids and kissed me GLHF and stayed at her mother for a few days. 4 days and mech mage was my first legend run.
I wouldn't try legend without at least 65% wr. Unless you want to spend hundreds of hours on it.
Personally I got to legend with about 70% wr, and it took already too long for my taste
WIth a 60% winrate it takes 150 games from rank 5, which is like 20 hours of gameplay unless you play a heavy control deck. It's not exactly "hundreds of hours", but it does take time. Much less than 60% though, I feel is barely doable since the number of games you need to play scales pretty quickly.
