i am not happy with this expansion. meta is quite okay, but wideness of deck design has significantly dropped. control decks must have combo to the face to have some success. there is no more n'zoth paladin ever. only anyfin paladin, if you want to play control. there is no more fatigue warrior with Brann and coldlights. if you want to play control, you need garrosh+alexstrasza combo, or leeroy combo with han'cho.
want to play n'zoth rogue? you must include jade BS to advance. no more fun with huckster-oriented deck. or you get stomped by other jade class.
and there are so many other examples of artificial restrictments to successful deckbuilding. so yeah, i don't like that.:)
but meta is wide... on the 1st month from the launch. whether it be in general? i think no.
I wasn't excited in the slightest for this expansion. I was actually expecting a Titan/Burning Legion/Void Lords expansion.
I like some of the cards, but they're no where near as exciting as WotG.
I would LOVE to see the next expansion be an adventure that is solely dedicated to releasing the death knight and monk class. I know Blizzard has said that it is not on the top of their priority list as it would be extremely hard to balance, but a man can dream!
Please God, no.
The reason why the deck building possibilities are so limited compared to other card games and why the game is so hard to balance is because there's already too many classes.

Pretty damn unbalanced at this point. Hunter, paladin and mage barely exist on ladder.
FWIW - if you look at the VS numbers, Reno Mage enjoys the same win-rate as Reno Warlock. The latter deck is currently the most popular on ladder, with a 14% play-rate, while Reno Mage is only at 3%. It's only been a couple weeks - it took until the second week of July for Dragon Warrior to have a play-rate above 3%, ten weeks after Whispers launched. While I doubt that there is a tier 2 Paladin deck waiting to be discovered, it's worth waiting for a mature meta-game before making pronouncements about balance.

I'm calling it now, Paladin will have a breakout deck with Goons (hand-wide buffs just feel too good not to be good if that makes sense); it feels a bit like Egg Druid did, where it's powerful but just not really an obvious build. Hunter is... probably going to be okay. Midrange builds always seem to do reasonably, but the Hunter Goon cards were just kind of okay and not earth shattering I think. Tempo Mage didn't lose anything and actually probably gained a boost from decks like Pirate Warrior/Shaman existing, so we'll probably see it crop up more.
Metas form more slowly than people realize I think, we've still got a couple of weeks at least before we can have a very good bead on what ends up being a top deck or not.

blizzard continues to be unbelievably shit at game balance and makes retarded overpowered trash that pushes braindead decks to the top of the matter and cancerous crap is almost all you play against.
In other news the world still spins, and sky is blue.

I hate to compare Hearthstone to Magic the Gathering, but one of the problems with this game is how there is no way to interact with your opponent on their turn outside of secrets. This game is meant to be something that is "easy to learn, hard to master" (Their quote from when it first came out), but that same benefit is also the downside of Hearthstone. Even aggro decks in MtG make you THINK about what to do/how your opponent might respond.
I think this is honestly the least fun I have ever had playing hearthstone.
Ladder is almost one hundred percent brain dead deck that just draw the nuts and win or brick draw and lost.
Pirate Warrior, Jade Druid, Dragon Priest, Aggro Shaman are all pretty brain dead. They are not all aggro but they all just draw the nuts and win or brick and lose there is very little decided by gameplay.
For me card designs is the second best expansion/adventure release so far, losing only for LoE, Nax and G&G have terrible broken cards and TGT are weak, it is hard to do right in this kind of game, BRM and ONiK are ok but the cards don't have much creativity.
It's actually my favorite release this year. The meta seems fresher and healthier than it has in ages, and the new "fun" cards are more usable than fun cards have been in the past.

I honestly can't even really bring myself up to play this game right now, and I'm not sure if it's sheer bad luck. No matter what I play I get hard countered by my opponent. If I play aggro, I go up against 4 freeze mages. I play control, hard combo decks are all I see, and if I play combo, it's nothing but aggro. I'm a 15-10 player usually, but this month I can't even get out of 19......

It's a bit of wash in the sense that you can't interact on your opponents turn though, since they can't respond on yours either; instead of playing around instants that can mess up your line of play, you're dealing with determining lines of play that will give you the best odds of having a strong turn the next turn no matter what your opponent will do. Overall I'd say they're pretty much equivalent in impact, because they're really relying on a skilled player making contextual decisions.
Combat in MTG is definitely better at making you think I'd agree, but it's also just clunky feeling. I've recently dabbled a bit in Eternal (which is basically MTG properly made for a digital format), and while attacking/blocking adds complexity to the lines of play it just feels slow spending turns NOT doing anything simply because it's not optimal. I'd argue this is less of a downside than it appears, there's still a lot of merit in Hearthstone's system simply because you know your minions are never completely safe; this impacts positioning, whether you play a minion or not, and promotes doing something every turn instead of holding back to retain the ability to block or wait until you can snowball into a better board position.
MTG probably honestly has the higher skillcap, but people generally underestimate that the skillcap in HS isn't actually that low.

Alright I don't want to be mean but wtf is going on with ladder and this seatstory cup tournament? Like everyone is playing smorc, including buccaneer and patches. I really don't understand how people in ladder can actually enjoy playing these decks. And I am looking forward to crush everyone with my control decks. This expansion is by far the best expansion with a lot of tools to actually deal with aggro and cancer decks. And only because of a bunch of people who think they are funny by playing cancer I won't take my fun attitute out of this game. Just wanted to mention that
I love how most of these comments are about aggro and how control is dead. And how each fraction can only have one deck. Lotus does it the best I feel because they are meant to peak at different points. Those complaining that Nzoth decks are gone. Oh well. last expansion and an annoying deck to play around. Those saying Mage and Pally and Hunter are gone. Mage reno is fine. Paladin buff is fine. and Midrange hunter is midrange hunter. It wins but not dominate like always. Pirates is far from op. Plenty of decks in the meta handle them fine unless you have a terrible draw. I fear for highlander decks when reno rotates out but we will see. And alot of decks will become weaker without BRM and LOE. TGT is eh.
The fact that Aggro Shaman Runs Patches Buc. Miracle runs patches Buc. And Pirate warrior runs patches buc Should tell us all something. If you want to go control you meet Jade Druid there Control Priest and Control Warrior is almost like gone I guess the N'zoth package can beat them but still you can't out value druid anymore. If you want to play aggro you meet pirate warrior which usually you can't have that good opener with any other aggro. Priest is strong now but all priest mains know that dragon priest is not "really" priest :) i guess there is still room for experimentation Im still excited for Fel Orc Soulfiend(Had relatively good success with it!) Sally(Afraid to craft lol) Grimy goons( played it a lot didn't really find the sweet spot still struggling) I think N'zoth Paladin is strong in the meta you can win agaisnt Jades(Eadric) and Pirates(with ton of healing and wicker tech!) I am thinking goons might work with Pirates 1 mana 3 2 charges 1 mana 5 4 bucs etc I think that deck might be crazy with all pirate legendaries! Blackwater truesilver 3mana buff weapon buffing 4 6 charge in hand seems insane also greenskin with light justice etc true silver is CRAZY GOOD but to do that i would need to craft 3 pirate legendaries lol :D anyways I am pretty bored in ladder i am still struggling to find a fun unique deck which also climbs in ladder Greetings!

Either way it's disheartening as fuck.
The fact that people are finding the ladder more challenging is actually a good sign, indicative of a healthy meta.
When you can find One Deck to Rule Them All, it means the meta is unhealthy and unbalanced. On the other hand, when it's hard to find a high winrate with any deck because every deck has a counter currently being played by others on the ladder, it shows that there are many viable deck options out there.
In the end, the only one who can help you with the "disheartening" thing is you, but I'd suggest not paying quite so much attention to your rank. If your not a legendary player, it really, really, really doesn't mean anything or matter on any level.

I like this expansion, my only complaint is every class with a decent cheap weapon is running the Pirates Package.
Jades and fun, hand buffs are fun, Kazakus is fun, the new Dragon cards are great, and Dirty Rat adds a whole new element.
