I'm not playing the expansion since it came out and I have no new cards. So today I opened and got Grimy Goons quest which gives 2 free packs. To win it fast i decided to play Old Gods Pirate Warrior and some people conceded on turn 1, some conceded on turn 2, but i knew that my deck is trash. According to the forums, everyone hates the new Pirate Warrior. What have I missed?
I'm about 10 - 0 against Pirate Warr with Taunt Warrior. Now, this is a deck that specifically counters it so it doesn't fare the best vs. the rest of the meta but vs. Pirate Warrior, I'm really confident
Go wild if you hate playng fast decks ... why you keep complaining ? Im currently rank 6 (in wild) with 75 -80 % using renolock ... sonething impossible to do in standard
four times today i went against this deck and every time they had a pirate on turn one, summoned patches from deck and the ended the turn immediately without attacking with patches,so clearly the average level of pirate warrior around rank 15 is not that high, and yet they all won on turn 5-6.i guess it might be worth to tech in a few cards against this deck, considering it's more than 50% of what i find on ladder in EU
Nah, Pirate Warrior is strong and might counter some decks pretty hard, but hey, we already lived on a game where people always had stuff like zombie chow and Deathlords on slower decks and we already have new versions of those cards.
Pirate warriors go really fast but they fail pretty hard when facing any taunt. They have to use up 2 or 3 cards to take care of one, and since they heavily lack card draw, you will out value him pretty fast.
It's not imminent doom if you're not fast enough like Jade decks. Aggro is strong but can be countered.
Tip: Murloc Shaman is as strong, if not more than Pirate warrior. Was killing paladins at turn 4 to do the murloc quest, even when facing stuff like the buffed new legendary they got.
This expansion is fun and all but I don't think pirate warriors are beatable unless you have a very specific hand to counter it. I originally thought it was just not a good time to play hearthstone with the meta the way it is right now, but I'm actually having quite a bit of fun, it's just very tiresome to try to find ways to counter pirate warriors but also try to make my own innovative deck with all the new cards. How do they even do this consistently?
Turn 1 N'zoth firstmate (almost always) into Patches (will always be in the deck)
Turn 2 Upgrade + southsea deckhand or some more pirates
Turn 3 Frothing or bloodsail cultist,
the game is usually over by turn 6, I can almost guarantee it. If I try to make an anti-pirate or anti-aggro deck it lowers my odds or beating Jade Druid and Reno which are also pretty popular. What's interesting is that there was no real meta before the expansion which was pretty fun but now the whole landscape has changed.
I'm almost tempted to stop playing the game until Pirate Warrior is phased out. I refuse to make one. But 80% of ladder right now is Pirate Warrior.... I played a tournament yesterday (finished top 8 out of 30, not bad). But every single person I faced brought pirate warrior, and I banned it every time and it felt so damn good lol. I actually lost to a guy who brought Pirate Warrior, Pirate Rogue, Pirate Shaman, and Dragon Priest. Like this whole pirate archetype is just broken right now. I played 10 health worth of taunt by turn 3 and still lost turn 5 to a pirate shaman.... its ridiculous.
Pirate decks aren't really the problem. I gotta have to admit that pirate decks are even good and viable archtypes. The thing is that warrior cards are way too strong right now, especially the aggro ones. I mean fiery war axe was even pretty strong at it's own but we can't really afford a nerf on that card as it is the only card that makes control warrior a thing against aggro decks. What we have to see nerfed are other cards, especially the warrior legendary to 3 mana, the 1/2 pirate for 1 mana that get's 2 attack when a weapon equipped is has to get to 2 mana instead of 1 and finally the +4 damage for 2 mana needs to get to 3 mana (sorry I forgot the names in english but you all know what I am saying). Everything else is ok for me
Easily countered by healing/ Taunt. Nope, it's not too strong.
Taunt/healing doesn't always work against it. It definitely is too strong. I'm guessing you play Pirate Warrior so you don't want to admit it's too strong.
Just started playing today. Playing Dragon Priest to try and counter. 4 matches, 3 pirate warriors and 1 jade druid. Needless to say I'm 1-3... Laddered up to rank 9 by day two this month and now its all pirate warrior and I'm over it lol.

Too good: Yes
Unbeatable: No
Too good in comparison to its skill level: HELL YES!
Fuck cubelock
Try to play heavy taunt warrior for success !
Iv had quite a success against them with this deck :

i think priest needs a card like " 1 mana, 1/1 battlecry: weapons can't be played this game

Reno Priest is happy to farm free wins against Pirate Warrior.

Join me at Out of Cards!
I play this, and outrun them. It's funny watching them try to transition to board control.
(And yes, I do see the irony given my avatar :-D )
Feel free to add me if you play on NA! iMPose#1429
I'm sticking to Midrange Shaman. Matchup against Pirate Warrior isn't that bad with AoE, Spirit Claws, and Thing From Below.
The matchup could actually be better but I'm too lazy to adjust my decklist.

That new paladin buff deck with the divine shield taunt legendary can outgun them pretty hard

Just remember the good times!
They're not unbeatable as long as you play a shaman deck and are alright with having absolutely no fun at all.
