I have seen so many threads, statistics, and whining. To the people that think hearthstone is free to play- it's not. It's pay to win. It's a video game. GAME. Stop crying if you don't spend money on this game and can't win in a competitive format. This idea is awesome. Even if I lose once, even twice, I already know my heart rate will be through the roof and will create some memorable, awesome games. To those who think it's all about statistics, yes it's a balance of RNG and skill, but MANY of the same players end up in high level tournaments every year. Just like poker. It's a lot more about skill than people realize.
For people like me, a semi competitive rank 3-5 player, this will be insanely fun. It's $10. I make that in 15-30 minutes at work, whoop dee do. And I am young and don't even have a career job yet.
In summation:
if you don't want to play, don't play, but no need to freak out and tell everyone it's rigged or the rewards suck. Somebody is gonna win, and most will have a blast trying. And it's going to be fun watching streamers wreck/get wrecked. Like a different post said - this is a GAME.
Also, thanks blizzard for making a new and interesting format, teasing us with what the tournament life is like!
I plan on having a GREAT time deck building with my brothers, dad, and best friend in anticipation for this!
Ill buy an entry with real money the same reason I go to poker tourneys: its fun, it gets the heart pounding and its a blast!
Also, this game can totally be f2p and still win in constructed. P2w is a concept in HS not a reality. I am and know many legend players that are f2p. If you think money is required you really just want shit for free, instantly without effort. The same with this brawl.
HB is the first incentive to give blizzard money on this game for a mode I want to play. Gj! For someone who's dropped at least 1000hrs in this game I'd say im up a few bucks at least.
Who the fuck is anyone here to complain about such a fun and challenging, sometimes tilting, game for next to free compared to all other forms of entertainment. It's saddens me that this community is so toxic and entitled.
Good luck to all the folks who I'll be playing with in the coming Heroic Brawl. May rnjesus favour you!
I work as a manager for an international buyers group and put in over 3000hrs a year including travel. Fyi. Raising three children as well and spend most of my time with them.
I make time for the things I enjoy. I put my commitments like family first, always.
People that are overly apprehensive and butt hurt are NOT the target player audience. Sorry it's "too expensive" for you. Maybe write a letter to blizz asking for golden legendaries for free for you with no risk?

Better existing offers: Buying packs with gold.
Arena.
Ladder play.
Working overtime for 1 hour to spend on Arena or packs.
WHY pay for this LIMITED TIME Heroic Brawl when better options exists..?
It's limited time, dammit, replacing the mode everyone gets 1 free pack from each week:
If the mode's total rewards for 1000 Players was "gold in + 100 000" that'd be the normal Brawl loss.
They're doing the opposite:
1000 Players --> 1 000 000 in
700 000 gold worth of rewards out.
Blizzard "earns" 300 000 gold. Which only serves to reduce players gold amounts; less goods for players.
A normal Brawl is more profitable for most players than this:
1000 Players --> No gold in
100 000 gold worth if rewards out.
Blizzard loses 100 000 gold. But players only earn personal in-game goods, which benefits Blizzard.

This.
The concept is just fine, and most people agree about it.
The buy-in/reward relation is NOT fine. I have almost 3k gold, and if the payout was close to arena-level and the buy-in lower, sure, why not throw some gold im there and see if I can accomplish something.
As is, though, a nasty gold-sink to make people buy more packs with real money from the next expansion.
Also, a LOT of players will lose their brawl-free-pack this week!
Do anyone have any spreadsheet for the chance of getting each type of reward if you don't assume a 50% win rate but rather a 55% 60% or 45% etc. ?
How many players actually consistently pull off a 60% win rate?
This, to me, is the biggest problem here. This might make sense in, say, Street Fighter. It makes little sense in Hearthstone, a game so random and luck-based that most of the people who qualify for blizzcon are basically randoms.
So, we're complaining that we don't get the FREE thing we are used to every week, and we have to pay to play a mode (which you can also get using gold that you get for free)? I think they give out plenty of free stuff in packs and quests, and there's no reason to complain about this.
I'm glad they're doing something that will benefit more experienced players rather than cater to new players for ONCE.
I'm glad they're doing something that will benefit more experienced players rather than cater to new players for ONCE.
Except that it doesn't, which is the whole point of this thread. With a 30% rake and an incredibly steep reward curve, only a fraction of players can get much out of it - and because of this, few will play it. Most experienced players also already have fairly complete WOTG collections, so it's even less rewarding. Almost everybody would be better off just holding on to their gold for the time being.
It's not about benefiting experienced players, it's about sucking as much gold out of accounts as possible prior to the new expansion appearing.
Not only that, but it's important to note that Hearthstone is a game with a relatively shallow skill curve and a ton of randomness. It's really, really hard to get a win rate above 60%, even if you're the best player in the world. This isn't about skilled players. Skilled players may fare slightly better, but they're still very likely to get screwed by bad RNG and not go the distance. You're not going to win this by being a top player. You're going to win this by getting very, very lucky.
Reward scale looks fine, I like a proper progressive reward system.
Entrance fee is a tad high. If this will run for a long time, I'd expect long waiting queues and clubbers eventually.
Casual players like me will probably never even get to try it. If i acquire a 4 digit gold amount, it'd instantly go towards unlocking the next expansion as i'm way behind as it is. still unlocking karazhan final wing as i went through blackrock and LoE after returning from over a year long break.
So don't expect easy pickings like me if you go for this "superbrawl".
If the whole thing was halved, rewards, entry fee etc. I'd probably try it out at least once. Wouldn't want to miss out the chance to earn 10+ classic packs, I'd really need them.
But yes. I feel the underdogs won't benefit from this as much as those who will probably dust 96% of the rewards anyways.

It amuses me that I, as a pretty average dedicated player (rank 5 every month, 2 highest peak) can take games of any of the 16 guys at blizzcon with the right matchup and draw.
In Starcraft 2? LOL! Even masterleague players (top 2%) lose at least 99% to top level pros. The skill difference between blizzcon contestants and average Grandmasters (server top 200) is also huge!
The downside though: you can not blame teammates, draw or rng on your losses, only yourself...

Rank 5 is not even close to average player. Average player is about rank 18.
The OP indicated as much. Basically saying it's a bad deal unless you are a really good player. How such an obvious statement went 9 pages is the real mystery here.

I wouldnt reccomend tavern brawl even if you are good. It's a matter of luck really. Let's say you run into your counter deck three times in a row and immediately go 0-3. Not fun. I like Miracle, and am currently rank 2, but I know if I go to the HTB I will immediately que into a bunch of pirates and get wiped. No thanks. I will save my gold for ungoro.

I have checked my gold and none has been stolen so far. I will log in and out to double check and will inform the police if some does go missing.
...The problem is not the problem, the problem is your attitude to the problem.
Legendaries crafted so far: Dr. Boom, Kazakus, Lord Jaraxxus, Sylvanas Windrunner, Fire Plume's Heart, Mal'Ganis, Bloodreaver Gul'dan, Baku the Mooneater, Genn Greymane, Aya Blackpaw, Patches the Pirate, Leeroy Jenkins, Zilliax, Raid the Docks and ancharr
It more of scam, swindle, than outright theft
