I realize there wasn't any thread dedicated for achieving Legend rank for the first time, which I think its a well deserved accomplishment after days or months of grinding. Few things are worth including as I mentioned below and feel free to add anything you wish to mention too. For those who has achieved it long time ago, this can probably become a nostalgic thread for you.
Here is my personal experience,
When: Season 25, 25th April, few days before WotG.
How long: I started playing on ladder in April 2015 and reached Legend April 2016, so its 1 year.
Which Deck you use: Dragon Priest all the way.
Best moment: Beating a Zoolock at rank 3 which my Dragons outnumbered his zoo and finished him on turn 6.
Comments: Its easier than I thought, highest I climb was rank 4 but I only net decked at that time, only once I found the right deck which I created myself to suits me and my play style, it was a steady climb all the way to Legend, which I think is the key.
My 1st way of making it to legend.... So cheap but I will take it. Was playing my Dragon Warrior deck, turn 3 occurred, my opponent was a ZooLock.... God, I hate zoo locks....
Anyways back to to the story, turn 3 occurred And I played my 1st card, where he/she had 2 imps and a void walker.... my 1st card was Faerie Dragon
END TURN
Turn 4.... He/she didn't play anything.... Time ran out...
well basically after my turn 4, messaged appear [OPPONENT LEFT] lol
I reached legend for the first time at the end of Season 20 (November 2015). It felt great as it was the first month I really tried to reach Legend. I got it with an off-meta deck I made myself, a sort of Tempo-Ramp Druid. The main strength of the deck was that it countered well Combo Druid that was a very popular deck back at that time. My late game was 2x Ancient of Lore, 2x Ancient of War, Ragnaros, Dr. Boom and Cenarius instead of Sunwalker, Kel'Thuzad etc. Also, I chose tempo minions over tech minions.
Apparently I got it crushing a Renolock, thanks to a good curve (turn 6 curved Ragnaros lethal MingLee).
First time I reached Legend was at the end of July 2014. It was the first week after Naxx came out and I was using a Token Druid deck that had a couple of the new Nerubar Weblords in it, which shut down Zoo pretty hard. Yeah, this was back when Zoo featured loads of Battlecry minions and Deathrattle was hardly a thing.
First time was in the last season of combo druid (before the nerf).
I remember the last game I draw perfectly . After ramping mana, coined emperor like turn 4, turn 5 draw 2 cards with prenerfed ancient of lore, turn 7 dr boomed, turn 8 combo win.
story - started playing to get legend month wotog came out started playing with Hunter cause I had the cards. Only made it to 5 every season !!! This season I tried secret Hunter and discard lock with new Kara cards . got to Legend !!!
I play since Season 1, never really pushed for legend, but last January i got off to a good start and was rank 5 after 4 days or so. I played combo druid and secret pala to that point, but it was a grindfest after hitting 5. I tilted and got bored, didnt want to play those decks any more.
So i switched to control priest, a version which completely countered aggro decks like shaman, zoo and had good matchups against pallies and warriors. I dominated my foes and went from rank 3 to legend in a ssingle day. Good times.
My first time legend was... today :D, so season 30. Climbed to rank 5 with Anyfin N'Zoth Paly, but then was stuck at that rank for more than a week, so had to switch to a Claw Shaman that I made. Helped me push to Legend in about a week. I'm happy to say that I finish the season (well until now) with a 57.6% WR and 52.8% WR against respectively mid-range Shaman and Hunter.
My final boss was a secret hunter that managed to weaken my board strongly with his first COTW, but didn't manage to pull the second before my Rag blew him to pieces. FeelsGoodMan
First time legend was right when undertaker was released.. I played huntertaker and just went till I lost. Once I started winning 8-9 games in a row and reaching high ranks I couldn't believe how close I was getting to legend, decided to stick to it and stayed up all morning grinding. I think I got it at like 4 am before my uni classes started and the final game was not very memorable.. probably just a turn 6 blow out because of undertakers. I'm glad that since then I've hit legend many times with less overpowered meta decks.

Hi, cool topic.
My story:

Simpler times... And how soon they would change.
First time was in the last season of combo druid (before the nerf).
I remember the last game I draw perfectly . After ramping mana, coined emperor like turn 4, turn 5 draw 2 cards with prenerfed ancient of lore, turn 7 dr boomed, turn 8 combo win.
No doubt nerf was necessary.

I miss Velen's Chosen and Lightbomb :(
Hier gewinnt nur einer, St. Pauli und sonst keiner.
