I usually don't like to open new threads as there are quiet a lot of interesting topics covered all across the website. But what I specifically want to point out is whether or not Hearthstone already hit their zenith after only 2 years of massive! hype.
Basically, if we compare it to the other games, at least in my own, their hype stopped as well after only around 1-2 years. Of course by pulling out new content, you might eventually increase the amount of players for a few more weeks, but as Hearthstone doesn't really have a lot of content, the hype loses faster (what I think). The reason for it is that while you basically play content from other games (let's say Diablo or World of Warcraft) for more than one month including having still fun after it, Hearthstone will eventually get the same old thing after only 1 single night (When a wing comes out or maybe the expansion).
The only thing that I am really scared about is the fact that the hearthstone developers seem to work for new content as we have seen recently in the seasonal brawls and these alternative heroes between the expansions. But as we all know, this is not enough for the normal human. We want an interesting challenge, something we can get to feel proud about! As this one is missing tough, the hype is getting lower and players stop playing this game, at least after playing maybe 20 games to reach rank 20 or rank 5.
What can Blizzard actually do to improve the game experience? Adding one extra expansion to release 4 expansions a year? Seems actually quiet good as you will get variety. And even if not everyone manages to get all the cards, it seems alright for me. Maybe adding a pack buying cap to stop this pay-to-win stuff we see in all the twitch streams? (100 packs a week as an example).
Another example to improve the experience are of course achievements or more cards you can actually gain by completing a certain task (captain's parrot, old murk eye or as we have seen the promo cards). This might actually bring you to the point where you really see a reason why you SHOULD collect these cards. The only thing you eventually are doing is to get all the varieties of the cardbacks right now. Only a few people out of the community (and yes this again is my own statement, not proven) really want to hit legend multiple times. Golden cards is not enough of a reward for the little human.
The last thing I want to mention is the fact with the balance changes. IF the hearthstone developers really intend to do nerfs/buffs, then I guess should this be more than only 1 time a year. Right after every expansion, they need to release cards that are healthy and not too broken. Blizz already showed us that they do listen to the community and check it out, but just when the problem is solved by rotating a card out or by putting out a new broken card (Mysterious Challenger as an example, who would have worked alright just not with Avenge + Noble Sacrifice together). Same thing now with the 4 mana 7/7 but I don't really want to go into details as you should know the rest. I guess we just can't and shouldn't get a PTR to test cards as the surprize effect is the best thing in hearthstone.
Huge wall of text but recapped in a few questions I wanted to ask you guys.
1. How do you think will Hearthstone survive? Do you think in another 2 years, there won't be any more players as they already diminished during this time?
2. How would you save this (actually) amazing idea of a cardgame?
3. If you have other things to add, feel free to show it to us.
