Scientifically the location of this poll will mess up the results. People actively playing the game are more likely to visit than people about to rage quit. They are also less likely to give a shit about a poll regarding the game. Most of them will just silently quit.
I gave it a 3: happy with the game but would be pleased to see less pure RNG and a bit more strategy, as well as a bit more in terms of balancing the classes' core cards.
I personally don't find the meta right now stultifying, although I guess that's a minority opinion. I'm not trying to go for HCT points or anything, and am having fun experimenting with decks that may not be top-tier but can surprise a bit on ladder around rank 5.
I am at 8 tbh, not exaggerating at all. Checking out the tavern brawl, maybe a fun game or two a week, watching Kripp, but that's it. Switched to ESL as currently it is a much better game.
Standart meta is beyond retarded, even at rank 20 you face zoolock and tempomage (= no new players), you either play aggro or anti-aggro like C'thun Warrior. Wild is not much better, N'Zoth Secret Pally and Midrange Hunter everywhere.
Arena always used to be my prime mode but with their retarded decisions like Firelands Portal they broke it and even the (bad) fix didn't bring enough life it. I've tried post-tweak Arena, picked priest for lulz, got 10 mages, 3 rogues, 1 pally (yes I managed to do 11 wins with lolpriest)

Well the first reason why did I even started playing this game was death of my main CCG.
I'm at 6. I started playing HS because it was the free option for when I didn't had time to play magic (and magic duels is a pathetic excuse of a magic's game).
I find the game still interesting and kinda fun, but what I have grew to hate are the players, the playerbase become so toxic and hostile, the more the game grew the hardest it was to find friends in the game, every single friend I have in RL quitted the game so I was stuck with an empty friendlist and an endless grind for golden portraits with 0 reason beyond flashiness, not my kind of enjoyment... Then the season's end rewards appeared and I had a motive to return to the play, only to find people changed from "hey, let's play this fun game!" to " FUCK YOU, YOU LITTLE PIECE OF SHIT, YOU ARE TRASH AND YOU WON SOLELY ON LUCK!"
Now I play only wild and even there I'm starting to get bored albeit the people playing there is actually a lot better and play more enjoyable matches. I'm contemplating install X-mage and see if the programming there is good enough so I leave HS for good and play some actual magic digitally, I'm even starting to play a lot more League of Legends than before (from 1 match every 3 days to at least 1 or 2 matches every day) that's how I think of HS right now.
Pro's appeared = people demanded pro-cometitive game = devteam tried to deliver = game core design wasn't prepared for that = people got toxic demanding more and more competitiveness = what we have right now, people that ask for others to have the 80g quest or they don't do theirs with you, that's just sad.
I voted 8, because the game has become boring and predictable. Also, for some reasons the community grows every day more and more toxic, specially in these forums. And that makes me look for other sources of entertaining.
Currently my main objective in the game is to collect all the cards I like and then start to complete my collection.
I'm at a 3 right now, and honestly I will probably be at a 3 for the foreseeable future. I went to legend once, and to rank 5 a few times. One thing that helps, is that if you expect to get to high ranks, you have to play a half decent deck. So far I have only the golden portrait for paladin (my favorite class). I enjoy playing all variants of decks (n-zoth pally being by favorite right now). Yes, I don't mind playing a control deck every now and then, but I also like to beat my opponents with overwhelming force. I'm a FTP player, so I like the progression of getting all the good cards in each set (especially classic set as it will always be around). My 3 could move up to a 2 if hearthstone added something like achievements (with some rewards), and maybe pally and priest could get some DAMN 2 drops.
8...I had high hopes for standard and was sorely disappointed.Yeah i used huntard and skillshaman to climb to legend the past months with hopes that more intersting decks will appear.Well didn't happened,up to rank 500 (the best i climbed post rotation) still aggro decks dominated(especially the last season where control warrior completely died). This month i didn't ever bother to climb.I played wild just for fun.If wild becomes unfun also then i will quit,i am free2play after all and i built my collection through arena. No remorses for investment :P
There are some different decks in meta but every one of them has the same 2 playstyles(burn them in curve=aggroish tempo bullshit,or survive untill yogg and pray to rngjesus).
4. right now, probably a 5. before the Arena changes.
Still enjoying the game, deckbuilding, casually see how far I can get up the ladder, it's more positive than negative. Arena is actually really fun right now, you can pick something other than Mage and still get really far! There are some things that's really bothering me though.
1. Stale meta - Tempo/Face has been dominating for soooooo long, with the occasional OTK deck thrown into the mix, and I'm really tired of it. There are so many cool cards that I would like to play with, but it's never going to happen when 90% of the cards in your deck has to be good against aggro. When will Midrange or Control players get their Tunnel Trogg? I want to go back to the days when playing cards off curve here and there didn't devastate your chances to win, and when turn 1 nothing followed by turn 2 Hero Power didn't mean you just lose the game. Having an aggressive meta is alright from time to time, but it's been aggressive forever now, it's getting boring.
2. Few viable classes/decks - Most classes have just one or two viable archetypes/decks, if that. Rogue can only play Miracle, Priest can only play Resurrect, Hunter can only play Highmane + CotW + 26 filler cards, etc. I want to be able to play Control Rogue, or Aggro Priest, but it's just not possible, you are pigeonholed into a niche decided by the...
3. Classic/basic set - ...which doesn't rotate. Almost 300 cards that never change, that you will be playing against until the end of time. Some of them are even strong enough to be meta-defining or have effects so crazy that they establish combos and synergies that will never go away. I want this game to evolve and change over time, and this system is holding it back.
4. Class core mechanics/hero powers - They are just not balanced in my opinion. Shaman has a really useless hero power that is only not trash right now because of all the expansion cards that specifically interacts with totems. Warrior's armor is the only counter to OTK, and such a thing shouldn't be class specific. Rogue's hero power is stronger than most 2-drops in Arena. The list goes on.
5. RNG - It's a card game, there is always going to be randomness involved, but things like your draws is something that you can manipulate to be better or worse, you can adapt your play based on that RNG, and it's rarely so varied that it wins or loses you the game just from a single dice roll. When Tuskarr Totemic pulls out a Totem Golem there is none of those elements, or when Yogg casts double Pyroblast in your face. It doesn't matter that the average case is balanced when the worst or best case means losing or winning the game.
6. Solitude - For a multiplayer game, hearthstone is very lonely. Your opponents are all mostly anonymous, and there is no way to really involve your friends in the gameplay. The most interaction you get is on sites like this. Even though I rarely play MtG these days, it's still way more fun when I do because it involves human interaction.
6, I'm sick of shamans and huntards. Every season feels like a chore, simply getting to rank 5 for my quest. So why do I do it if it feels like a chore, and why am I not at 10? Because I sometimes genuinely do have a lot of fun playing this game. But that's only versus control decks to be honest, because only in those games I feel like I actually won the game, whereas games vs shamans and hunters simply feel like I either had the answers or I didn't.
If the next expansion doesn't do anything about shamans and huntards I will instantly switch to 10 though.
Somewhere between 3 and 4, to be perfectly honest. Looking at the polls, that's where most people see to be. The only real problem I have is with RNG cards that are too good and swingy (like Yogg).
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
People who refuses to play aggro out of principle are even worse than people who play exclusively aggro.
One should seek to become a complete player and play all archetypes, including ones that he despises for whatever irrational reasons.
