people who cried about a card so much before they even understood it have just made it so now it won't be in arena... good job guys your ignorence is beyound comparencent
Theres really no defending this card in the current meta. Its a terrible card right now and allowing it in arena will make priest even worse at arena. Maybe when they add more synergy for it, it could become viable but right now its a dead card.
you like this meta? i sure as hell don't! I think it is good that they make cards for a different meta and for different kind of people who is not just trying to netdeck something that is tier 1

Huh? No Priest player wanted this card in the Arena. It's way too narrow a card to be useful in that environment. Whatever any of us think about Ben's video I assure you that we universally applaud Ben's decision to remove it from Arena. You're the one whose ignorance is boundless.

He never said he liked the meta - just that Purify sucked in it. It's great that they make cards like that, but we all have to admit the timing was just terrible. And that's the real problem here.
0 mana draw a card is actually pretty good, so from that perspective, the mana cost makes sense.
I agree with that, but there's no way it should be more than 1. Power Word: Shield is 1-mana draw a card and the 2 health is almost always worth more than a self-silence.
Yeah, completely agree there. During that part of Brode's talking you can tell he's getting creative with the truth. He still basically admits it, though: they fully intended Purify to be a horrible card competitively, but fun for the types of people who win with bad cards like Majordomo Executus.
So kind of like every Priest card right now.
Personally, I feel they're squandering an idea here. Having the best self-Silence tools would put Priest in a unique position in terms of summoning big piles of stats. Get a certain critical mass of such cards and you could get some form of aggro Priest archetype. It would even synergize with the hero power - combo out a big early guy, then Heal it.
Just watched Ben's response video and honestly, this is disappointing. He does acknowledge that they do in fact make mistakes but he doesn't acknowledge that this card was one of those mistakes. Taking Purify out of the Arena pool? There's never been any other card in the history of Hearthstone that was taken out of the Arena pool based solely on how terrible it was. This card doesn't need to be taken out of the Arena pool, it needs to be taken out of the card pool.
You know what would earn Blizzard a lot of credit? Ben making a video stating that he and the dev team have heard our feedback and while it won't happen immediately, Purify is going to be remade or replaced entirely and that they'll try to get the change done as soon as balancing and internal card testing would allow. THAT would earn Blizzard so much credit and respect that the conspiracy theorists out there would wonder if that was Blizzard's intent all along.
Fist off, thank you Mr. Brode for admiting that the Dev Team made a mistake, that is realy a big one.
But there is a slightly problem that was not adressed in the video. With the way standard is atm. it makes 0 sense ever to make a worse reprint of a card from basic set. And I think that is the core problem with this card.
Also cycle to your deck to fast is so much of a concern, that this card was made this lvl of unplayable? Hell why allow warrior decks like we have atm?
Its either this was in line for priest or warrior should get nerved feel free to choose one but dont argue a lesser good mechanic for cycle is not implemented because its to good when we have something tronger in the meta.
Last but not least the fact you gonna remove this card from arena made me burst out in laughter. This should realy be the alarm to rework or just change this card with another.

Purify is meant to be a Majordomo, which is a card we get from time to time. It's bad, it's meant to be bad. It's supposed to be bad but interesting. Which would've been fine.. if it was in a full expansion mixed in with a lt of good cards once priest has a decent deck. It existing alone isn't a problem. It's that priest only gets 3 cards, SERIOUSLY needed some power and this is NOT the time to joke around with Majordomos. That is what they admitted to. They said that Purify should've come later and another card be put in instead.
As far as Arena, it's the first but not even close to the last. It's a harbringer of a new system that's going to affect ALL of arena. Just that they are starting with this card considering how much damage a class common card of majordomo power will be on Priest.

No it wouldn't. All it would do is bring a batch of "oh they FINALLY did it" with eyerolls, similar to the whole issue with deck slots, followed by every hearthstone forum FLOODED with demands to change/buff a mass of cards in ways that no one would find appealing. Besides, I've seen them when they try to buff cards to 'correct mistakes'. It results in 2 mana Unleashed the hounds. Anyone remember THAT change? If you don't, read up on it but the TL;DR is blizzard does very very stupid things when they start rushing.
By the time they properly playtest a new card, it'll be time for the new expansion anyway and they'll just dupm it there. Anything faster would result in mess.
The card is bad because it's meant to be a Majordomo. Myself I can accept thatespecially since I've now seen a shaman deck with farsight do well in a tournament. They believe the problem is that purify should've come later after priest got its act together. And that I can accept as well. Meanwhile it's helping to force their hand towards rebalancing Arena and that is a very good thing.
It also shows that community rage DOES get to them. They aren't going to mindlessly follow what the ragers say but they won't ignore them either. That's the best thing of all to me at least.
So yeah, I think overall the video is a great thing. Though do feel free to keep slamming this card on their head for a while. If you wonder if it really matters, remember where Warrior was when they got Bolster and see where they are now.
The summary doesn't do it justice, it really is a good video and a huge mea culpa. I'm happy with this. And if Priest continues to fail after Karazhan (really looks that way) I get the feeling they are going to step in for real next expansion and boost the powerlevel.
Okay, I watched the video a second time. And one line really pissed me off. While I do appreciate the video's existence and Ben's willingness to speak regarding the state of Priest and Purify, he mentioned this:
"we really misread the community sentiment"
How? How is that even possible? If you scoured this website and Blizzard's own forums it was painfully obvious that Priest supporters were on pins and needles hoping for a boost to the class. Not necessarily a sudden jolt to top tier but at least a return to competitiveness. How could they have missed all the attempts to find that Unicorn Priest Deck? How did they not see all the fan-based cards that were lovingly designed and debated in the hope that one day we might see something similar actually revealed in Karazhan.
How could they be so blind?
I for one would love to see tournament players occasionally choose Priest as a viable, competitive deck. I would love to see the Priest win rate significantly rise over at Hearthstats. I mean, all we really wanted was a bone. None of the class cards Priest received are going to help and Purify was an insult.
Overall a great video! Nice insight and it's cool he admits their faults, but three little nitpicks...
1: Did I hear him right? Did they mention Priest should be versatile enough to counter the meta? Interesting. Right now they're a worse Paladin/Warrior/Rogue at the same time, but it's cool to hear there is some sort of plan for Priest.
2: I'm a Shaman player, who played Shaman when it was bottom tier much like Priest is now, and even during Undertaker meta did it never feel as distantly ninth as Priest does now. We got the Evolution mechanic - similar to Resurrection it seems - as well as many cards to create fun, exciting decks... While getting the perfect card Shaman needed (Thing from Below) to not just be good, but by proxy turning a trash hero power and underwhelming 3 drop into better options. (And say it with me, four mana 7/7). Not only are you not giving Priest competitive stuff to go with the fun gimmicky things, I don't even see how you create something synergistic with how all over the place the Priest set is. Maybe a mini Frost Giant to do stuff with that turn 2 hero power?
3: "We worried about it being a 1 mana cycle"... Why? Maybe along with PW:S it caused problems, but PW:S is a 1 mana cycle with a beneficial effect. Why is a cycle with a drawback 2 mana? Know they nerfed Flare for the same reason, but it doesn't have a negative condition attached.

Why Rogue is my favourite class:
My submission for this week's card design competition.

It's so bad we removed it from arena draft! - Ben Brode
.
If you are playing it "for funsies", run Silence for 0 mana and silence anything.
.
Silence deck may require more than 2 silence cards....
how about everybody just cry about every bad arena card then?
It would have been very good at 1 mana. The "1 mana cycle" he is so afraid of, is simply NOT THERE, since it REQUIRES A TARGET.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.

WAIT.
Just wait.
"It used to be 1 mana -- but playtesters only cycled it. So we nerfed the card."
...
"It was so useless that people didn't use it the way we intended, EVER, so we nerfed it."
...
You know what?
I...
I don't even know what to say.
The main problem has not been adressed: there's a 0 mana priest only silence already that works on enemy minions. Why should people use this?
Everything is OP.
