PC Gamer interviewed Hearthstone's Senior Game Designer, Ben Brode, and Production Directo, Jayson Chayes to discuss the Curse of Naxxramas adventure. See below for a recap of the interview, or read it all here.
The team has other ideas for releasing cards in the future which are still in design, not just the previously announced Adventures and Expansions.
The design team felt like there wasn't a need to include many more silence cards in the game, the current tools (Ironbeak Owl, Spellbreaker) are enough.
Purchased content which rewards you with cards needs to be accessible by everyone who purchases it. The easiness of wing 1 was by design.
Overall, the adventure is meant to be a puzzle rather than a test of pure skill. The ladder is better for skill.
Naxxramas isn't designed to be a full campaign, but rather a way to get players thinking of different ways to play.
The reason why many cards weren't changed during Naxxramas was because the design team wanted to see how the new cards would change the current game.
The team is keeping an eye on Zoo. A couple of cards in the Military Wing should be strong against Zoo, but it's too early to tell what well happen.
No neutral weapons are available because they want classes to feel unique.
Design Philosophy: The designers want you to feel like you've done something awesome and powerful on your turn. No overly negative reactions to yourself on your turn.
The goal is not to make sure every class to equally represented in statistics, but to keep them fun.
There is no timeline on Spectator mode, however, the team is working hard to get it ready. It is the main focus of the team and they have cool designs they will be checking out.
Ben Brode laughs at a comment about us not getting more deck slots anytime soon.
it was a pretty interesting interview - but seriously, what's with the lame excuses for only 9 deck slots? sounds like a similar excuse for why women shouldn't be allowed to read - all them ideas bouncing around in their tiny heads would just make em' confused and angry!
18 deck slots are just the beginning - When more cards are available, there will definitely be more than 2 viable standart decks per class, and most people want a few slots for trying their own decks out, too.

If its not meant to be a test of skill, then they need to stop marketing it as such. Get rid of that "Heroic is VERY difficult and is not for the faint of heart." Get rid of that "Heroic bosses are extremely difficult. They will require multiple attempts and deck revisions to defeat." Get rid of all of that if they didn't intend for it to be a test of skill. Its not really much of a puzzle either.
Blizzard's philosophy on this game has been, from day one, that they want to appeal to casual players. That means making it about what "feels good" not what's balanced. Or for that matter, what's consistent. Still bothered by the differences between Ancient of War and Druid of the Claw despite their identical wording.
The goal is not to make sure every class to equally represented in statistics, but to keep them fun.
Really?
It is virtually impossible for every class to be equally represented in statistics: Compare with MTG, which deals with just 5 colors, or any card game. The classes should be balanced, but equal representation is a bit of a silly idea.
(Also, while neutral weapons won't exist, I imagine after a few years we'll get Mage weapons etc, maybe less, same with Secrets. No class should get exclusive card types and they will want the untapped design space.)
My guess will be we will eventually get some kind of wand or staff with something like Spell Damage +1 and durability that is used up during a spell. It won't happen for a few years though.

seems good, themed and feasible :)
