PLEASE READ FIRST: This thread is intended for the friendly and intelligent discussion regarding my concept for a new card that Blizzard could perhaps implement into the game for the Warlock class. This was originally regarding the card Corruption but a few people made me realize that, not only was I asking too much of the card, what I wanted of the card wasn't viable because of the ties it has to “The World of Warcraft”. If this isn't the proper place for this type of discussion I apologize but I wasn't exactly sure on where to post this. With that out of the way, let us begin!
The “Dark Titan”, known as Sargeras, is the creator and current leader of the demonic army currently known as “The Burning Legion”. The legion began when Sargeras fell into madness as a result of demonic corruption and released all of the demonic races he had previously imprisoned during his partnership with the Titan Pantheon in order to establish it. Ever since Sargeras' fall his sole goal has been to “undo” the work of his Titan brethren through destruction and chaos. Even though he had his army none of it's members had the natural cunning nor the power to act as it's commanders, so he sought out to find a race of beings in which he could bend to his will and thus, serve as his commanders. He eventually found that race on the planet called “Argus” (the Draenei home world) and corrupted a vast majority of them to serve as the legion's commanders. Over countless millenia Sargeras has conquered many worlds, corrupted many races and has had a massive impact on the world of Azeroth as we know it.
In my original post this is about the point in which I started to talk about the different demonically corrupted races there are in WoW and how I decided to go with just the Draenei and Night Elf races as the minions that this card could affect and, therefore, corrupt into a list of demons. However. I feel that this was way too limiting and, as a result, have decided to go with the just Satyr as the demons that this card will “summon” when you corrupt an enemy minion.
The reason for this choice is quite simple. Satyr were originally that of the Kaldorei Highborne (Elves) but since then have taken on nearly every race into their ranks such as: Goblins, Orcs, Blood Elves and “Low Common” speaking races such the Kobold and Ogres. Because of the sheer variety that the Satyr has to offer I feel that this makes for the best implementation of this card into the game.
NOTE: The race of demon in which this card will “summon” will not actually be called “Satyr” or even “Satyr Demon” they'll simply be called “Demon” like all other demons. (I chose the Satyr merely for lore purposes)
The general concept of this card is similar to that of a Priest's Mind Control ability or even it's Shadow Madness ability but different in the sense that you're, technically speaking, not just taking control of the minion but rather that you're corrupting it and twisting it's form into something more suitable to your needs. (Permanently)
As the name of the thread suggests, the card could be called “Demonic Corruption” as this very easily defines what the card is/does. The cost of the card could be 4 mana and, as previously mentioned in the other thread, here's why. Sense Demons puts 2 random demons from your deck into your hand for only 3 mana, considering the current amount of total demons in game (11) and a total potential of 20 demons in your deck to choose from, it has quite a bit of variety. Bane of Doom, for the additional price of killing an enemy minion, summons 1 random demon (from a list of 6 demons, presumably from your deck) onto the battlefield for only 5 mana, also giving it quite a bit of variety. (To me) 4 mana for this card seems reasonable. The graphical text could be as follows: “Take control of and transform an enemy minion with 4 Attack into one random Satyr demon.”. This may look like a wall of text but, considering Ragnaros has 15 characters in it's text, this isn't that bad. Also. Recalling the above note, the demons will not actually be called “Satyr Demon”, they'll simply be called “Demon” as their minion race. Or perhaps they could be called “Satyr Demon” as a “Satyr Demon” can still be considered a “Demon”. I say this in an attempt to ease later confusion that people might have in game.
The card could only be able to be cast on minions with 4 Attack, here's my reasoning. Currently, Priests have two direct removal abilities: Shadow Word: Death and Shadow Word: Pain. As you can see these cards are restricted to minions with either 3 or less Attack and 5 or more Attack with that sweet spot being in the middle at 4 Attack. There might as well be a card that takes advantage of that sweet spot, right? And what better way to do it then with a card available to the Priest's nemesis, the Warlock! What I mean by this is that people, to avoid the above two cards, will more often then not choose minions with exactly 4 Attack, having the card this way would force players to think very thoroughly on what minions they take, ultimately, adding more variety to the game.
NOTE: I didn't really see a need to change the below demons because I really like them. However, I did remove the demons that would've been summoned from corrupting a Draenei because of the above explanation, I also modified these demons a tad.
Here is my list of demons that Demonic Corruption could summon:
Trickster – 0 Attack 2 Health “Satyr” Demon with: Manipulation. (See explanation below)
Shadowdancer – 1 Attack 3 Health “Satyr” Demon with: Characters damaged by Shadowdancer have Blind. (See explanation below)
Soulstealer – 0 Attack 1 Health “Satyr” Demon with: Manaburn. (See explanation below)
Hellcaller – 2 Attack 3 Health “Satyr” Demon with: Your other minions have Charge.
Minion ability explanations:
Manipulation - At the beginning of each turn, cause one other random character to deal it's damage (rounded down) to one other random character (excluding the minion with Manipulation).
Blind: A character afflicted with Blind has a 33% chance to miss their next attack. (Blind wears off when the afflicted character attacks for the first time after receiving Blind)
Manaburn: Whenever this minion deals damage to a player that player loses one mana crystal for one turn.
I really like this concept and I think it would simply be a really fun and immersive addition to the game. If anyone has any ideas or thoughts on this topic that might improve the card or simply point out things that I didn't consider, feel free to mention them. Enjoy your day! :D
