I've tried so hard and never gotten it. Even with face huntard and secret paladin, I couldn't do it. I must just be trash.
A few thoughts on this:
If you're going to try to get to Legend, it's really worth either installing a deck tracker to track your ongoing performance, or do so by hand. Play lots of games (at least 50) with your single, chosen deck, and keep a close eye on your win rate vs. various classes. If you use Hearthstone Deck Tracker and set up an account on hsreplay.net, you can also view replays of your games there and examine them to see if you could improve your decision-making. (It's often much easier to see mistakes or missed opportunities after seeing your opponent's responses than while you're playing the game.)
While you probably should focus most on improving your play, you might also want to ask the question of whether changing a single card or two in your deck might significantly improve a marked weakness. Usually, if you're playing a known-strong deck, you should do this very sparingly. It's really important NOT to change your deck frequently while you're learning it and collecting data about how you're doing.
It's also worth comparing your personal results (as accumulated by your deck tracker) against the community's results as reflected on data sets like the Vicious Syndicate reports. I personally found that I was doing a LOT worse than the community in certain match-ups for my deck archetype, and that allowed me to look into what my particular issue was in more detail.
I also found that playing in off-hours improved my win rate substantially.
Finally, you're not trash for not getting to Legend. Doing so takes hundreds of games for even the very best players, and even a small variance in win rate can triple or more the number of games it takes. You'll get there most easily by using a focused approach to identify and fix your weaknesses and try to get all the factors in your favor.
Not much, just shows you were grinding with tier 1 deck for a week. Personally I don't even use it. Hit it once when mysterious challenger came out by grinding day 1 with him before everyone and their mum copied the deck and/or adopted to the meta.
Considering that the highest I ever got was rank 5, and hearthstone says I'm in the top 2%, and the climb only gets steeper, I'd say it's still worth a lot.
For me I think I just don't play enough. I mean I just played 51 ranked games to get to 5 from below 20 in wild with secret mage. Lucky me had an insane winrate.
It is only worth what you did for it. If you play Agro pirate warrior to legend big whoopdeedoo but if you took mill rogue to legend in standard today, and that was your first time, just wow, congrats you are amazing. The card back is generally just a sign that you have played hearthstone for a few months and don't have a lot of other things to do in your free time and you also have free time or it is your job to play hearthstone.

Just fill your deck with one drops, that is creative deck design, right?
Regarding the original question: I used the Legend card back for a little while, but then I realized everyone who had it was using it, so I switched to the "pie" card back.

ayyyy, never like the legend cardiac anyway, looks too bland and unfun, i use the danarssus cardback. for the night elf my friend
It means practically nothing now as there were so many Legends in EU Standard last Season everyone's got one - by comparison I went in at over 20K for April, where as last time I bothered getting Legend was in February where I entered Legend at 3300 (both were right at the end of the month so make a stark contrast).
So essentially its just another card back to add to the collection. I usually just swap to the latest card back I got, so I think I used the Legend one for about a week last November.
That may be true, but player base has drastically increase since release of Un'Goro expansion. Rank Legend is still 0.5% of the entire player base. I personally have never reached that rank and i do admire people who did reach it. Since you are one of the best in the entire world. You are better than 99.5%. I guess if you reach rank legend every month it becomes easy and boring, but from my persepctive it's quite the achievement.
The vast majority of Hearthstone players, even motivated ones, don't play 200-400 games in a month, which is how many it takes to get to Legend with a realistic win rate. 2-3 hours per day, every day, is a lot. By average I mean average: add up all the games played in a month and divide by the number of players who played them.
I remember looking up to Legend players, the card back really felt legendary!
Then I realized how much faster it is to get there with an aggro deck. It still required a lot of time and effort though.
Now that ranked floors are implemented, getting there has never been easier, which sadly lowers the value of the Legend title. Don't get me wrong, it's a welcome change as the higher ranks have a lot of experimental decks now.
Reaching Legend is still a nice achievement.. just a lesser one than what it once was.
We need something even more epic to strive for. Gib achievement system blizz plz
The main reason I could care less about legend is because it isn't a skill based thing. Once you can consistently hit around rank 10, you could hit Legend. The difference in skill does not go up that much from 10-Legend, only the difference in time. You have to grind and grind with decks that have a 60ish winrate over days to finally break Legend. It's about netdecking the most popular deck, knowing how to play that deck, maybe knowing how to tune it to the meta, and then playing it forever. That's the exact same process to get to 10, just longer. Some times I'll really like the deck I'm playing and play it to Legend, most times I won't.

Say "Wow" for RNG!
everything what I ever needed to grind legend is my decklist on the right side of my screen and knowledge of the meta.
this means that you have to know exactly every deck and every single card it concerns if you face an opponent.
you always have to know which cards he can play in which turn to be able to calculate and play around different scenarios.
of course you also need to play your deck perfectly to avoid missplays.
everything else is bullshit :)

Piloted Shredder, Knife Juggler, Mad Scientist, Dr. Boom
Need to be removed from this game

It's not too hard to get provided you have the cards and play a viable deck, I wish there were more rewards, maybe something for reaching high legend.
