It's been discussed a bit before but I'd like to know more in depth about how people feel about in match chatting. I personally miss the ability to chat with my opponent as I see them less as an "enemy" and more as a fellow Hearthstone player. Perhaps it is just because the in game options are so limiting.
So what could we do about that? Opt in chatting? Type chat in casual but not in ranked? Simply add more emotes?
I feel opt in would be a fairly agreeable way to go. Maybe a little icon so you know if the other player has it enabled or not. You could skip needing a report function because you could one click squelch them just like you already can. At the very least more emotes would be nice. Though I'm not sure what they would be :)
Any disagreements or idea's? I'd really like to know.
I'm fundamentally delighted that a chat doesn't exist at all. The nice atmosphere of this game is partially because of the calm, and knowing that everybody just has to accept this. There is nothing my opponent can do to affect my game, no way of initiating a real disturbance. This situation is great for a strategic game; in real life we have real etiquette that people abide by, like in poker and chess, but in video games it needs to be enforced, forcefully.
However, if it were to be implemented, I believe that an active interaction should be required in order to enable it, like you mention.
There should at least be chat channels when not in game. How to find opponents and friends? Only being able to friend a vanquished opponent or some who just beat you is awkward.
Solid comment Banankake. I can see where you are coming from for sure. I do feel like optional chat wouldn't hurt anyone that didn't want to participate. Could have it off by default. Then your experience would remain the same while allowing me to enjoy chat.
Also, that chat channel idea is excellent Ogobum. I don't know why they don't have chat channels now that I think about it. It would connect the community more in my opinion. Works in other Blizzard games!
It would be like not poking a sore tooth, a tooth made out of prepubescent psychopaths with attention issues. I know it might not be a very good argument, but it's still my opinion.
PSA - You can always mute someone! I never report people for chat in games because you can ignore them (unless they spam or the chat takes precedence over the game). Reporting someone for chat you could mute is like calling the police over some dude on your TV yelling at you. Just mute the sucker! I was used to bad chat since the 90s and there was little recourse for the player back in the day. Now I feel so good just being able to shut someone up if they harass me.
I agree there should be chat for any game of this type. These are the games that should have chat!
In any CG experience you have to have table talk! One of the best parts of FNM is chilling with people and talking about the game. I have a great time chatting with most strangers (even in LoL/Dota) and I find it easy to avoid rude people with the press of a button (hello Mute).
There are so many games that I have played where I wanted to talk to my opponent and actually tell them I was impressed, or ask them about their choices to better understand the game. It's silly that people have to accept a friend request before chatting and getting to know you a tad.
I would like a opt in chat function. There is no reason not to have it if muting exists. It would only serve to bring people together.

Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.

Dunno if you've ever played SC, but, I fear that exactly this will happen quite often.
Yes so opt out of chat then?
