Probably i think that Kirin Tor Mage will replace the Mad Scientist in Standard mode but with [card]Eater of Secrets[/card] secrets are gonna die. ( mostly Secret Paladin and Freeze Mage )
Eater of Secrets is a tech card just like Kezan Mystic. It's not going to be an auto-include simply on the basis that the majority of classes don't even have secrets.
Tempo Mage as we knew is gone, because you no longer have a way to reliably play the secret on turn 3, unless you consider the Kirin tor, but he's not as consistent because you need both cards in your hand. Nothing beats Mad Scientist, unfortunately.
The secrets, however, might see play in other decks. Probably Control and Freeze mage will still run some of them, and Hunters will still run a few traps. And Secret Paladin might survive Standard, maybe with an entirely different game plan.
Yes, absolutely. Paladins do not even need Mad Scientists. For Hunters, Mad Scientists essentially puts a 2/2 body on board when you play a secret. And finally, Freeze Mages existed before Mad Scientists did.

I agree, just a slow mage deck will be albe to play secrets in standard
I think that Freeze Mage and Secret Paladin will survive, but Tempo Mage, I enjoy so much, but it's gonna die scientist, Portal, shredder, Boom, it's to many for it
i think the secrets in general are now entering the hide and seek game regarding the Meta . Up until this point , we are experiencing mad scientists retirement while Eater of secrets is entering the scene all high and mighty . So what to make of this .. . Secrets will be hard casted if a similar ability like scientists doesn't get implemented therefor they will be more smart regarding the timing yet fewer in numbers . i don't know if Eater of secrets will have the same fate as Kezan mystic , hyped for a few weeks then not worth the slot . We just have to wait and see how the secret plateau shapes itself the first place , new ones / better ones ?! i hope so .
I think that people are overestimating the cost of secrets. Every hunter secret there is (minus misdirection, and sometimes freezing trap, ... dart trap) gives value. Bear Trap and Snake Trap are both effectively 3/3 bodies for 2, one with taunt, the other split over 3 minions. Explosive trap is literally consecrate for 2 mana. True it needs to be triggered on your opponents turn, but on an empty board, why worry?
The biggest problem for mages isn't the Mad Scientist itself, but the Eater of Secrets. This guy is enough of trouble to make secrets irrelevant for mages.
Hunters will have a loss of tempo, since it helps set up Eaglehorn Bow + trap combo on t3. Even Midrange Hunter will suffer.

Mad Scientist did not reliably play a secret on turn 3, only if you could get him dead. He'll still be missed, of course, for his ability to play a secret without spending extra mana or taking up a card draw.

I expect to see some more Kirin'Tor Mage type cards, ones that reduce secret costs. At the most I'd expect something that just draw a secret from your deck, not one that ALSO plays it.

Play him, trade him. How is that not consistent?
Can't trade vs. 1/1 or 1/2 minions or a clear board. I've found that sometimes just having a Mad Scientist on the board motivates my opponent to play a spell instead of a minion or play a Haunted Creeper instead of a 2/1.

Spend 3 mana (as a mage) in turn 3 to put a secret is not a tempo lost?
My magic will tear you apart!

Mages, just freeze mage
Hunters, not really unless there is a replacement for MS. Just Explosive in face. Maaaaaybe Freezing in Midranged. Beartrap will die.
Paladins, they already don't use it.

ROCK (salt) & ROLL (the bodies over)

Freeze Mages and Facehunters will be hurt.

Mages will go back to Kirin Tor Mage and hunters will still run Explosive Trap Mad Scientist just made secrets mandatory, nothing more.
Eater of Secrets is garbage, not some grand conquering hero. 2/4 for 4 against 6 of 9 possible opponents.
Yes.
