I've wondered about this a number of times before now. If someone spectates you for a pack and they don't say thank you, is that greedy, or...? I don't know what to think of it half the time, and it happens to me a great number of times. I could have booted you from spectating, but I'm not like that. I play to win you that pack and you say nothing to me. Just because you don't get anything good from the pack doesn't mean the 40 dust you get isn't good towards a common from the new set.
As you say - you play to win... You would play to win anyway. Someone spectating you doesnt cost you anything... I dont think thanking is really necessary.
You make the mistake of thinking I play to win all the time. I only play to win to help people get their pack when they're spectating.
Most are probably not paying any attention. This morning, had the friend who got me into the game queue in as a spectator and say, "No pressure, I'm going to get breakfast."
I understand what you mean, like I feel kind of pressured when people start spectating me and don't reply back when I try to talk to them. I know that I add people who don't speak English as their primary language sometimes, but not THAT often. Whenever I have a spectate Quest I normally let the person know I got it, but then again I like to be more friendly than most people who play competitive video games.
I'm sure that the people spectating you most of the time would say "Thank you" if they remembered, but it could be their just preoccupied with something else going on.

Yeah, at some point during the spectate, I might say something to them. They usually remain quiet when I talk about some of the plays I make. When I spectate, I tell them, if I have the quest, that I do, but I'm not spectating for just the pack. I like to hang around sometimes. It can be fun, because we get conversation going sometimes, and that's always fun.

Lol. Do you really?
Yep. Winning is nice, but it's not the end goal unless they did something during the match that prompts me to really fucking crush them. I also only play to win when it's the last week of the season. That's when I really push to see how far I get in the week. If I take this game ultra serious, it'll be the same deal with League of Legends and I won't care about it as much, and it'll slowly leave my life. I take gaming lightly, in the sense that I don't try to make it my goal to win, but to try to learn new things and get the best experience I can out of it. Hell, Entomb doesn't piss me off. Big Game Hunter doesn't piss me off. Things that would upset others don't piss me off much at all. If I play only because I like to win, the game isn't for me.

What do you guys think?
I think the fact that this thought even crossed your mind speaks volumes about your personality. Why do you need to be thanked for doing something you were trying to do anyway for yourself? Furthermore, why wouldn't you be happy to help the other person get the pack?

I don't do these things for myself, I do them for other people. I'm not caring for when people are unappreciative. It's not that I actually think these things, people being greedy, think these things about other people, it's just that I was curious. It's a free pack. A pack costs currency of some kind. If someone gives you something cool for free, don't you usually say thanks? This doesn't speak volumes about anything, having this thought. I was curious what other people thought, and that's why I thought I'd ask, because I'm not the only one who EARNS packs for other people.
If i spectate and get a pack, I thank the person and give them a report and extra thanks if i got something i needed or a legendary.
Just feels polite.
Edit : I really like the watch and learn quest because it speaks to one of my quirks from other games. In my MTG days and with Heroclix, i have a thing where i feel like i get better luck if someone else picks out the pack i'm buying.
I always ask permission to spectate and I thank them afterwards. It's basic courtesy. You can make the argument that they're playing anyway so it doesn't matter if I watch, but I'd never read the newspaper over someone's shoulder, and spectating uninvited feels kinda like the same thing.
How are you finding "problems" when I had only a mere curiosity about something concerning Hearthstone? There's no problem, but that a number of you believe something that isn't true or existent about this thread.
Unless they just start to spectate you when they got their quest and then alt tab to watch a movie or going to the bathroom to take a dump, then they can't thank you, since they're not there when they get the pack or you win the game, neither would it feel good to thank some right away when you are joining the spectating action.
Besides i don't think it's anything extra, like many over and over have said in this thread. You are doing absolutly nothing diffrent when there's a spectator, if the symbol wouldn't be there you wouldn't even notice, therefore you aren't really doing anything for them, and they have no obligation whatsoever under any cimcumstances to thank you, that's like demanding people to thank you for not killing them, i mean you have a kitchen knife and you know how to stab. Why the thanks then? You usually don't kill people, why should you get thanked for your usual behaviour, that is common place in the first place.
Once again, as stated before, I hardly play to win. I push for a win when someone is spectating. Other than that, victories are the same as losses to me, except that one brings reward and the other brings experience. I'm hardly ever driven by reward.
well i don't expect them to say thank you, cause we know there's that quest. i'm actually feeling a bit insecure being spectated, i wonder should i talk to him/her. but now, oh well i try not to overthink about anything.
You don't play to win? Well, then you should have bigger issues to work on instead of thinking about this, this should be a minor issue for you. Fix that first before you start complaining about this.
It is very clear to me that your eyes function, so why are you commenting things as if you're blind? There's no complaint here, it's a curiosity (I don't know where you even get such a ridiculous idea). I have had this thought come and go in my mind several times, wondering what kind of people spectate me, and I wanted to get a pulse on the community to see what other people think.
Also, I don't have to fix my approach with the game. Winning isn't everything. You should work on your perception a bit before thinking that would be a priority.
well if there's no conversation going on, i probably wouldn't say sorry to any spectator when i lose.
so flipping the coin, guess no expectation of a 'thank you' when i win.
Yeah, I mean, it's no big deal if they don't say thanks. A lot of people here are getting this impression that I have a problem with this kind of behavior, when it's merely only something that makes me curious.

Play however you like. No big deal.

Moment of silence for those lost. FeelsBadMan
The thought never crossed my mind. I don't think anyone has ever said "thank you", and I never expected them to. I guess we are just different people.

What's your battle tag? I would like to spectate you without even having the quest and not thank you.
