After reading the various threads about how this deck type is disliked and that deck type should be smashed, including seeing a thread that appeared to hate EVERY deck type, I realized something: it's easy to say 'no' to something, but harder to say 'yes'. And what we need is a few 'yes, I want this." posts.
So here we go, let's say the stars align and you get the exact meta you are looking for when Standard rolls around. What does that meta look like?
THe catch.. no negative statements. That is, no "Well not this meta." or "A meta where control gets dumped." Also put aside the cynical and nihilist talk like "but blizzard will never." or "the public will just. " or "there's no point to.." This isn't a rant thread or a demand thread. This is an attempt to understand just what YOU, yes YOU actually WANT out of this game. Not what you DON'T want, but DO..
So no talk of what WON"T show up in your dream, but what decks WILL be played. What WILL you see more of, after we remove all of the things you don't like. Yes you can include things you KNOW HS won't add or what won't work.
If you REALLy REALLY can't resist the salt, put it in spoilers at least.
So let's see it. We talked to death about what we hate. Let's see what the Hearthpwn community has in their Emerald Dream.
Honestly, I want Standard to have diversity. Don't want everyone to be playing 2-3 decks, and then you simply facing these even after 20+ matches. The only way this can be done, is to make cards and decks on par with each other. If there's one card, or one deck, that is way too strong when compared to others, people will tend to play that, and it's not even their fault for doing so.
As far as archetypes are concerned, a little bit of everything is the right way to go. Don't want every single match to be 15 minutes long, neither do I want to get steamrolled from Turn 1 to Turn 5 and lose. Generally, though, what really made the meta annoying for me, was the fact that cards like Piloted Shredder, Haunted Creeper and Mad Scientist existed. These cards really are beyond broken, and the fact that even after dying they retained so much board presence made Aggro/Midrange decks absolutely annoying to play against.
All in all, Standard sounds awesome to me, and I'm super excited for it. Would love to see a ladder where not everyone's sticking to the same cards and decks, of course, this will only be possible if we don't have another Mysterious Challenger situation, but I do believe Blizzard has learnt their lesson this time round.
After playing this game for several years, and seeing the various metas come and go, I realize the kinds of things I do want from the meta.
Rock paper scissors.
If I understood every deck and card type, I woould be able to see a deck, ANY deck, and know what counters it. OH, a Secret Paladin deck, well I'll play patron warrior. Hmm, an aggro deck, well I could've played dragon priest and wrecked it. That sort of thing.
I want a meta that will respond to that and flow from one type to another. People play aggro because it's cheap and fast, which prompts Tempo decks to come into vogue and wreck aggro. Tempo then gets eaten up as control decks finally show themselves, at least until Midrange flows in. Then Midrange prompts another surge of aggro, and hte cycle continues.
Of course, the REAL meta will be less free flowing, as some people get locked into one type deck due to preferences, and others get too slow at switching deck types. The result is a meta you can analyze and exploit or get punished by if you ignore. It also allow for suprise decks as people jump ahead of the meta.
It's NOT easy to be pure positive, though. What I learned is that ANY meta that sticks to one type is horrible as the preferred deck becomes more extreme. Control metas benefit Fatigue warrior and Anyfin paladin the most, Aggro metas benefit PURE face decks the most. Midrange is what we have now with Secret Paladin and Druid while Tempo, though I love that type, is the most mindless. I'm not sure Combo can even exist as a pure type without ruining the game. The meta needs all deck types to be healthy.
All I want for Winterveil this year is a meta where the top tier decks need some brain power to play well, but where they're also sufficiently balanced so that there are more than just 2 or 3 of them.
I feel that a lot of the salt about the current meta comes from how forgiving it is if you make minor misplays with combo druid or secret paladin, because you'll probably still win if your draws are good enough and you just drop minions on curve. In the previous patron meta, patron was a difficult deck to pilot, so misplays were much more punishing. The problem was that patron was stronger than any other deck in the meta by miles when piloted correctly, so "favoured" match ups like Handlock vs Patron still often ended up with the patron player hitting face with a giant Frothing Berserker after making it through 3 taunts from an empty board. Something like a middle ground of the two, but with more diversity would be great.

Apparently, Hearthpwn won't save your signature if it's empty.
There has been way too much salt on this forum for some time now, time to add some sugar i'd say!
I don't think I can add much to what the others already said: some diversity is what makes the game great.
I also agree that there should be decks which are more challenging than others, and if these decks are played well they should relatively be a little stronger/more consistent than the easier decks (but ofc no patron-situation).
I am not a very high-ranked player, so I can't say much correctly about the top tier decks at the moment, but I do know that I have very high hopes for standard to make the game even more fun than it is right now!

Riddle me this: I have billions of eyes, yet I live in darkness. I have millions of ears, yet only four lobes. I have no muscle, yet I rule two hemispheres. What am I?
Some very draw-dependent aggressive face decks, a deck which relies on a broken card that slipped past play testing, and a handful of slow control decks. Oh wait we already have that. Problem is, that's what the new Standard meta is going to be as well. ON the positive side, I would like to see less control and faster matches, less emphasis on construction and more on gameplay.

Just a balanced meta m8 one that includes all deck types but does not allow one single deck to rein supreme.

That's all
I returned to this game much like how a recovering alcoholic can relapse.
Gotta love the initiative iandakar!
