So i have a lot of friends who like playing Hearthstone sometimes and i like to encourage them to play more by playing with them, making little tournaments and such. But the big problem is that the collection sizes vary wildly from person to person and I feel really bad being able to pick my from my own much bigger collection. That's why we mostly wait for Tavern Brawls with premade or random decks to get into playing against each other as the chances for them to win are a lot better.
As these don't come along that often lately, I didn't get to play with them a lot. I see that Standard mode is supposed to be kind of an answer to that, but I feel like it doesn't go far enough for friendly games. What I'd like to see is a tool for me to be only able to use the same cards that my friends have. Maybe this could be a nice feature for Hearthpwn as I don't see Blizzard doing something like that ever. I know I can already see my friends collection in the profile, but it's awkward to "make a deck from your friends collection".
Then we could make a kind of Sealed Tournament where for each match the collection of the player with the smaller collection is the pool of cards to choose from.
What do you think? Would you like a more fair way to play with friends who have a lot less cards? How do you accomplish this now?
Both players select a class without showing the other. Then, you simply use the auto-complete function to randomly select the whole 30 cards for you. What's happening is that usually, the guy who has less cards may have only decent cards in his collection while you may have more cards, but some bad legendary you kept just in case, bad synergies because too many different cards, etc, etc, etc. Also, you won't have finely tuned deck made from all the cards you have, so your deck will end up pretty much the same as your friend. Trust me, it's fun.
This is actually one reason why I like the new Recipes feature that's coming. Right now our choice of decks are "Basic Decks" (ie., the level 1 decks that don't even have unlocked basic cards in them) or "Custom Decks", which I would steamroll my new player friends with. What recipes do is open up a few more ready-made "Basic Decks" that at least have the cards you unlock by Level 10 in them, but aren't optimized meta decks. That's a solid option I can pick when a friend with a limited collection/experience challenges me, and if it turns out I can create one of those recipe decks from the challenge screen (similar to how we can currently switch between Basic and Custom decks when challenged by a friend), all the better.
But you have to make sure that one of the players has all the cards that the player with less cards has and that sometimes not that easy if you dont have a full collection :D
You're right. So the tool would have to go in both directions, finding a pool of cards for both players to agree on.

I agree that it is a step in the right direction, but there will always only be ONE classic deck for each class. The other ones will be theme decks for later that beginners won't be able to use early on. I'd like there to be some kind of "Buy All" or "Craft All" at a reduced rate for these, but i really doubt it will happen. So because of this i doubt it will improve the situation that much.
Make your own tournament rules. Limit cards by doing things like all common decks or only using the pre-constructed ones. The new feature they revealed of deck recipes should help with this too.

The least that could be done, Innkeeper could do - mark the mutual cards you share.
But if I owned cards, I could loan some to my buddy while we played. HS could and should allow some of that, too.
