Right now we have shredder as the reason why 5/4 bodies fail hard. But with rotation it's gone, with Flamecannon too. Would 5/4 be actually better than 4/5? It trades 1-for-1 with 4/5, with 5/5 bodies (5-6 mana statline), it kills 3/5 and don't die to any 3- drop.
due to the direct attack system in hearthstone it is far more important how the respective drop trades with the minions played the turn before it ... so, except a 1/2 (compared to 2/1) for 1, the x/x+1 minion for x will probably always be just better than the x+1/x for x ....
With Naxx and GvG being rotated out I think a lot of statlines will be indirectly buffed, especially 4/3 and 5/4. But sucking less won't necessarily make them good all of a sudden. A good exemple would be Chillwind Yeti versus Evil Heckler. Even though Evil Heckler has a "free" taunt as far as the raw number of stat points go, I believe Chillwind Yeti is more valuable just because of that extra hit point. The cards that are really impacted though are the ones with good baseline effects such as Tomb Pillager. I think this card is really gonna shine in the near future, which is good for the poor Rogues who don't have a lot of playable decks.
However, some cards will also loose in value after the rotation hits. I'm thinking cards like Tomb Spider. Right now it's a great card because it trades into the first body of the Piloted Shredder and gives you a sweet discovery. But if everyone starts running Chillwind Yeti or Sen'jin Shieldmasta in its stead, then 3/3s for 3 or 4 suddenly become pretty shitty.
Dancing swords, Ogre Brute, and Scarlet Purifier are rotating out with Shredder.
That leaves:

Arcane Golem Big Game Hunter Dreadscale (rare) Injured Blademaster
Arcane Golem isn't played to trade generally. BGH has 2 hp and probably can be removed without tempo loss. Dreadscale is rare indeed. Blademaster is only good in crusher shaman and old (pre-dragon) priest. Don't see him much today.
The 5/4 That already exist for Druid and Rogue im pretty sure that gonna become staple because the sinnergy they have on that archtype, but we still have to wait and see what new 4 drop gonna come from the new expansion, but as far i can tell i believe that 5/4 is a solid stat line that was on check because Shredder was around in pretty much 90% of the decks, since shredder and boom are so good that u can fit then anywere, but with him rotating out those new 4 drops can shine on that spot
As good Yeti is the fact that he is vanilla can kind hurt him getting played, while a 5/4 with some kind effect can give u a better impact on the board so we need to wait and see
Swipe, evis, fstrike, truesilver, auch+circle are all quite common. And don't forget mage & druid hp with frostbolt/wrath.
Also, SW:death :P
But alot are also getting removed, which could mean 5/4s are on the road to being better than 4/5s: deathsbite, flamecannon, lightbomb, crackle...
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I'm just another one of those. You know, those who do things. Things that need to be done by those that do these things in order to do those things that don't do these things themselves. Has the word 'things' lost meaning to you already?
All of this is theorycraft until the next set comes out (who's to say another 4/3 won't come out?)
I still think the 4/5's are stronger- Takes more than a 4 mana swipe to take them out. 2 mana frostbolt with 2 mana hero power takes out 4 mana creatures.) I still think the 4/5's trade better in the end; however, with a strong enough effect (gain 1 coin-which typically isn't the best thing to silence) 5/4's are still worth playing.
I think the general sense here is correct, 4/5 is the better statline in a vacuum, but with Shredder out of the picture 5/4s and even 4/4s with good effects will be much more playable. Shredder killed all the 4 health 4 drops and then the drop could kill a lot of 2 or 3 drops. 4 health becomes acceptable since being 2 for one'd isn't as much of a certainty.
The next expansion will be the determining factor though, since a 4/3 3 drop becoming a new staple could make it risky to run 4 health 4 drops again.
I think you can say, that specific Drops with a lower Health, that werde close to/ arguaebly viable Before will get Passive buffed by the shredder removal. I m thinking of
kokron, blademaster in priests without Circle, the rogue 5/4 with coin, whose Name i forgot , houndmaster

I think it's a very interesting thought. Well posited by the OP.
Could we take a minute and list all the common answers to 5/4 minions in the current meta vs. the new one? I'll start and you shout out any I missed.
Current Meta Common Answers - Will kill a 5/4 but not a 4/5 and either cost less than 4, leave behind more value, or take out more targets.
Shredder Flame Cannon Frostbolt + Ping (I guess this costs 4, so not a terrific answer, just even) Evicerate Swipe Wrath + Ping (I guess this costs 4, so not a terrific answer, and with the Druid taking 4 damage, it's a net loss for the Druid) Lightbomb Shadow Word: Death Deathsbite Truesilver Champion
Animal Companion -- Huffer or Misha so 2/3rds chance (Well, in reality, it's a 100% chance for Huffer) Crackle, but that takes out a 4/5 about as well. 75% vs. 50%. Flamestrike -- I don't see it played much other than Freeze Mage where Flamestrike plus ping takes out those 4/5s anyway. Gormok the Impaler -- I don't see him that much myself.
Aurenchai Soulpriest + Circle of Healing. Takes a 2 card combo and I don't see this nearly as much as I used to. Double Nova Double Consecrate Nerubian Egg + Power Overwhelming
It looks to me like about a 40% drop in ability to kill 4 health minions. However, Mage loses Flame Cannon but still has Frostbolt + Ping, Priest loses Lightbomb but still has SWD. Warrior loses Deathbite, but, will undoubtedly get a replacement. And if we get any sort of replacement for Shredder, well, we are back to square one IMHO.
So, as I see it, it all boils down to if they give us a 4 attack minion that is an answer to 5/4s and not 4/5s and becomes a staple like Shredder. If they don't, then I could definitely see a bump in value to the 5/4 (or 6/4 or 7/4) minions.
Standard will def be a slower game which bodes well for Prist, and Auchenai + Circle will probably be even more common of a clear with the loss of Lightbomb
Well Zoo is hard to fit in, because they always Need some Kind of combo for it, but we all know that they always have one up their sleeve. Thinking about:

Discuss.
More health is generally better than more attack unless you're playing aggro, so no.
Its fangs are in your flesh before its hiss leaves your ears.

Before Naxxramas Cairne Bloodhoof was a good legendary. Maybe he will see play again.
