I started playing way back in closed beta when I happened to have been given a key to play. I figured I would give it a shot since it was no investment to play really. I put it down for something like 2 years or something and picked it back up while watching my roomates play it all the time.
I have stuck around this time because I like the much larger card pool. When it first got started I found it very boring because a lot of the cards that were used were just neutral cards with each class being very minimally different from the others based on mostly the removal they had access to.
Saw that annoucement on thier side after some sort of event during the summer of 2013-ish and got hyped right away, have always liked pokemon and yugioh along with other card games but i have never gotten in to them due to it being expensive and no accessble in one way or another. Now we're sitting here 2 years and like 8 months later with over 6k wins, a broken knuckle and a broken monitor, no friends and no job. It took over my life, i couldn't get away from it, i had to play another match.
Today i'm still playing the game somewhat. Sure, it's an addiction. however it's my life now. I've wished before that i never started playing this game, but who would i be then? I'm safe here with hearthstone and my collection of cards. This is something i'm good at, i know all the cards and some combos, this is my life now, i feel pride and honor in every play i do and for every day that going by i see less and less point in those other activites i use to spend time on before. I don't need any friends, i have my cards, i don't need any job, i got my ranking to work on and if i break something else due to my loss that's okey, wounds will heal and i can alway buy new equipment. It's not a game anymore, it's the game, it's a life, it's my life, it's everything i ever wanted and will care for. This is hearthstone, this is me.
I subscribed to Kripp when he was playing Diablo 3 and stopped watching during his PoE adventures. I ended up clicking on some of his videos about hearthstone and found it fun to watch, reading how the cards worked and him getting mad. That went on for about a year or so until one day Warlords of Draenor came out and in the box I seen I get a free hearthstone card pack. Needless to say with that free card pack and a love for world of warcraft stuff, I soon became a pack buying, rng hating, fuck face hunters, hearthstone player. I also started to play during the reign of face hunter and mech mage, fun times.

My story is kind of stupid. Back in the end of 2013 I was sitting in a classroom with other students a few weeks before closed beta started and I saw someone I don't know browsing on HS official website in front of me. I got curious and subscribed for a beta key, which I got (although I noticed it only a month later before I forgot to check my e-mails on a regular basis, shame on me). I made a tempo mage deck (although I didn't know what "tempo" means at that time) based on lots of minions with spell damage, which was the best we could have back in the day. IIRC this was pretty powerful back in the days.
Sadly I didn't play for a year and half and I am currently trying to catch up with all the new stuff. I regret it now. I am a total noob despite being amongst the oldest players. I was completely lost when I started to play again. "Tavern Brawl ? What's that ?", "Isn't Arcane Intellect supposed to give me 3 cards ?" , "Isn't Frostwolf Warlord's effect supposed to be ongoing rather than a battlecry ?", "Since when does Gadgetzan Auctioneer cost 6 ?", "Hey! This 7-mana 7/7 Legendary is a powercreep on War Golem!"
I decided to try out Hearthstone because I've played TCGs for almost 15 years now and I love trying new cards games. It was great when I first played it, and I still think it is great now. At first I was drawn in by the tournament scene and wanted to compete on the highest level like I do in other TCGs, but I quickly gave that up after GvG came out because of the RNG that would ruin my tournament experience. RNG didn't ruin the game as a whole for me though as I ended up having a whole lot of fun just playing the game on a more casual level and letting the RNG do its thing and create memorable moments that still make me laugh.
Started on Pokemon and yugioh, then MTG, got tired of the cost. I had faith hearthstone would be awesome, and FTP makes it even better. Even if you spend $ to get all the cards it's way cheaper than MTG. I like that the matches are so quick. Although I would like to see more modes eventually, like 2v2 or Fat Stack.
I was getting bored with WoW when I got the closed beta invite for Hearthstone. Started playing and was addicted. Cancelled my WoW sub and used the refund I got from that to buy some packs. Been loving it ever since.
I played other TCGs in the past like Pokemon and MTG, so it's a game type I am familiar with. Though after quitting MTG (that was like 10+ years ago) I never had any intention to play any other TCG/CCG, but since it's Blizzard I decided to play it.

What was the thing that got you interested and eventually to play Hearthstone? Is your opinion of the game different now than what it was in the past?
Hearthsteed mount in WoW, but after some games I just couldn't stop playing o.o

I've seen friends play this game since beta, but I only installed it after seeing an ad for mobile.

Feel free to PM me for help or advice.
Watched TotalBiscuit during closed beta.
"Infinite" doen't mean "big" - it can be small and have no end.
Madness.
Blizzcon 2014 was definitely a big part of it. Having Artosis on the cast helped, since I used to follow SC2 back in Wings of Liberty.
People who refuses to play aggro out of principle are even worse than people who play exclusively aggro.
One should seek to become a complete player and play all archetypes, including ones that he despises for whatever irrational reasons.
MtG player for years so I jumped on this during closed beta.
Why am I sticky?
Being honest here when I watched twitch streams and saw the GVG adds and I decided to try the game out and boom HOOKED.

Got into beta and liked the idea of a faster paced casual card game that I could play while doing other stuff.

Saw the ad while checking rulings on Yugioh Wikia.... Now I'm glad I did see it or I wouldn't have a Card Game to play....
