I love Dragon Priest, but I think I'm like 2-20 against handlock. The deck also struggles against Control Warrior and Freeze Mage. Sometimes FaceHunter can get under it.
was scrolling through the replies and i 100% agree with you, it suffers against handlock and will lose the fatigue war against cw a high percentage of the time. i played mostly dragon priest this season, also control priest isn't an easy matchup either.
Basically control decks do well against dragon priest since dragon priest doesn't threaten you quickly, letting you get more etime to find your removals, and can't hold a board well once you grab it. Burst finishers, like combo druid and alex/grom reliant warrior gets past their limited removal as well. But overall, you can grind them out.
It's been mentioned a bunch in this thread but Dragon Priest gets countered harder than any other deck I've ever played. The good matchups are really good, and the bad ones are just horrifically bad. Freeze mage, handlock, and control warrior are all near unwinnable matchups for a Dragon Priest. If you're facing a lot of them, choose any of those 3 and you'll pretty much never lose to one again.
Really? I tend to crush Secret Paladin and Mech Mage. And I'd say that Dragon Priest is favored against Tempo Mage. Midrange Pally can go either way. Truesilver into Sludge Belcher into Sylvanas into Boom into Tirion and I'm dead, so I tend to go as aggro as possible in that match.

Maybe I was approaching wrong, bc I did beat down the last few secrets I faced. What's funny is everyone is talking about control being the issue, but I tend to do well against warrior and handlock. At rank 2 I never lost to a druid or a hunter all that much. Secret kept me from going leg this season. But I think I got the matchup figured out now. It's just wack that you can have a clean board, everything under control against secret and they drop muster and mysterious, and can potentially destroy you. And then they just top deck all their late game after bc all the shit has been cycled through.
I've been playing 100% dragon priest this season (currently at rank 8) and Handlock is by far the worst match-up for it.
Control/Midrange paladin comes in second, they just have so many win conditions it's hard to deal with every last one of them. Secret pally is actually an easy (?) match-up for dragon priest, maybe my deck is more suited for it idk, I run a self-made deck.
I'm about 60/40 against Control Warrior so I wouldnt say it's a bad match-up. I played a control priest deck to rank 6 right after GvG release and Control Warrior was a nightmare then.
Also: From the classes that are played the most at the moment (Pally, Mage, Hunter & Warrior) Hunter is by far the easiest, not a 50/50 match-up at all (both face and midrange).
Haven't run into enough freeze mages yet to elaborate about that match-up.
This season I've mainly run Dragon priest, for me the CW are almost an autoloss on fatigue, the handlock is another hard matchup, but if you can get a good lightbomb off, you have a chance. Control pala are hard also bad.
Dragon priests reserve around 20 cards for early- and midgame play, 5+ cards go for tech and the rest are to establish lategame and win conditions. That means dragon priests usually have weaknesses versus hard-control decks like Handlocks, CW and Freeze Mages. If you're running into a dragon-priest netdecker who simply by design ruined its lategame, used inanequate tech decisions and diluted its strengths with useless and/or slow minions - then almost any control deck can win, even midrange decks got a high chance.
is there even any?
Often has a hard time vs handlock, and I heard it's awful against freeze mage... son't know much more tho.

Freeze mage worked great against my dragon priest friend. try that deck, it takes some getting used to though.

Handlock/Demon Handlock or Freeze Mage are really good counters.
As for Patron Warrior, Secret Pally, Combo Druid... They are not counters but can still find consistent wins.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.

Mid-range Hunter is at least a 50/50 matchup.
I've had a lot of trouble with CW.. they have better removal AND better late game.
Secret paly. Temp/mech mage.
Control Warrior.
I've very high winrate against (Dragon) priest with Control Warrior deck
