So this is what I have been playing and having the most fun with currently. However it def. needs some refinement and I seem to either do really well, or get blown out completely.
There are a few cards that have felt kinda "meh" to me so far and have felt weak in general:
Wildpaw Cavern: So much value, but without Lightning Bloom in standard anymore this feels weaker and weaker. Sometimes I can drop it down when they don't have a scary board and it does alright...other times I wish I had a board clear or similar. This one is a tough call.
Coral Keeper: This card looks awesome on paper, and "fits" in the whole "rainbow" theme. But it feels like a dead card half the time. I feel like if the meta wasn't so "quick" this card would be good. But as it stands 5 mana "do nothing" besides build a moderate board just isn't enough. Sure it's great with Brann/Bolner. BUT I feel like as Shaman you are being so reactive you do not really have time to take such a pro-active play.
Maelstrom Portal: I want to like this card, and back in the day it was a fun card. But 1 damage AOE is NOT enough right now. I could see it being useful with other spell damage cards, but even 2 damage AOE isn't going to clear off much, especially at 2 mana. This has maybe swung the board barely in my favor once or twice (I see it in a lot of shaman lists though and I really don't know why)
Ambassador Faelin: I love this card when it comes to late game, but honestly it doesn't get that far long enough to matter typically. Probably maybe worth cutting? Then again it is ok stats to drop on the board, and is only one card.
Any thoughts? Maybe some replacements or disagreements (or other cards that should be cut)
Playing a more spell based Naga/Freeze shaman package with Queen and Zola. Wildpaw is needed against Pirate Warrior and Rogue. I loved Faelin but its too slow. Portal is bad even when i discover it its wasted. Coral Keeper i like. Gulp, Kagwar and Bolanr not needed. I even cut Brukan. School teacher is fun but underwhelming. Hovering just above 50%, Shaman very fun. Got some great new cards. Scroll is 5/5.
This is just a weaker version of bioluminescence shaman. It is greedy and a bit less proactive, in the sense that it doesn't threaten much , even with a wide board. Do you really need 1 or 2 colossal minions from Faelin? Most colossals don't make the cut in decks, and I can't see what deck shaman needs value for. Otk decks will kill you before you run out of steam, and you'll be crying when you draw Krag'wa or Faelin vs an aggressive deck. Coral keeper is way too slow, and has a condition, I'd rather play a School Teacher+ the 1/1 on turn 5 if I had the option. Also multicaster is much better if you want a rainbow theme. You're not a board deck and you don't even run bloodlust or bioluminescence to justify needing a wide board. For 5 mana, think about what kind of power plays other classes have. Yeah, two 3/3s and a 3/4 don't really cut it. Another plus of the bioluminescence deck is that it buffs your Maelstrom Portal to do 4-5 damage aoe quite easily. People are afraid of playing bio, because they are afraid of getting stuck with them in hand. But in practice and tournaments, I found it really efficient against the board decks we have, mech mage, mech paladin, dh, and especially pirate warrior. Freezing the pirate warriors often boardlocks them, and you don't even need bio to otk then. And this list is solid because it has the freeze shaman core, it's probably best to just remove the greedy cards.
Thanks, this is helpful! and kinda goes along with some of the cards I want to cut. Is there a list you've found good? I guess one worry for me is having a wide enough board for bio to be good?
Cavern is still crazy good. The freeze helps immensely against Rogue, Warrior and Demon Hunter, plus it's just really good mana value. Everything else suggested is I think fine to cut.
Personally I'm not a fan of Krag'wa. It's a value card that also requires setup and like with Faelin it just doesn't matter in most games. You'd have to be up against something like Control Paladin to ever need a card like it.
If you want a more impactful card against control then Mutanus is really good. I'd also suggest Zola.
