He zaps you down to 1 health on the first turn. He lays down a board full of 2/6 on turn 7 and becomes immune, with an endless 5 attack weapon. If you manage to clear his board, his new hero power is to deal x+1 damage to you each turn.
So..... using only standard cards, how can I kill this guy before turn 7?
Ancient mysteries can draw you counterspell to prevent the litch king from setting your health to 1. Mossy horror is good for the taunts. Maybe giants + conjur as win condition?
Generally, you should try to finish him before turn 7, or have a sure way of stalling him during the Frostmourne phase to finish him off with a combo right after that. I'm not sure if Standard currently has the cards that allow you to do one of those things with Mage, especially since you need to have a defense up immediately.
As for dealing damage... I can't really think of much either. Conjurer's Calling might be your best bet to get a lot of stats out relatively quickly, but there are not many targets you can play at a discount, and the 4 mana nerf doesn't help either. Mana Giant or Chenvaala, after some insane combo with Sorcerer's Apprentice and Mana Cyclone and the usual suspects in spells, followed up with a Conjurer's MIGHT give you a board that can threaten lethal within 2 turns. I was also thinking of Learn Draconic, but discounted spells sadly don't count, and spending 8 mana is more than you can likely afford. With 2 Research Project, Arcane Intellect and some super luck from Cyclone, you might have enough card draw to increase your chances of pulling this off. But I'm not even sure if it could work with a perfect draw.
That's all I can think of for now. Unless this is a self-imposed challenge, simply having 2 Molten Giants or a Kabal Lackey for the super highroll turn 1 Counterspell to prevent the Lich King from lowering your HP (since it's done with a spell) give you a way better chance, or at least more options, to beat him.
Something like this can already get the job done, but it's not Standard exclusive:
The guy you're talking about made those decks 2 standards ago. They use cards not found in current standard.
"or a murloc mage"
That particular murloc deck relied on Tidehunter (not standard) and Kabal Lackey (not standard) plus Mana Bind (not standard) to prevent getting put to 1 health.
It's what I'm working with though. I'm trying to make standard-only decks for the new players who are now able to buy the old single player expansions.

Ancient Mysteries costs 2 mana, and he sets your health to 1 on the first move. So far, I've been able to get myself up to 24 armor by the time I deal with the trapped souls, but I have no attack to send his way.
I dont think you can kill him before turn 7. I tried once with this

I only tried once, and had him to 5 hp in his last phase. Its not impossible by any means, but beating him requires a lot of retries, to get the exact cards you need at the exact time.
You can pop a doomsayer on turn 6, it will instantly end the sword phase after a 5 damage attack (Minions remaining will be healed to full, but cant attack in the same turn)
Realistically, you need to build your deck around steps in beating him -> surviving a 3/4 minion (doomsayer, freeze, taunt etc), atttacking on turn 3, having enough healing to survive a few turns in phase 3 - then dealing with the sword phase - either with doomsayer,Mossy horror, then just bring it home with some highrolls in phase 3.

"Exodia mage can also be made in standard"
Great! Let's see your suggested deck list.
I was seeing and most of the cards of the decks are in standard, you can craft the rest for 100 dust
just make a 2 turn exodia mage with counterspell on 1 its not that hard
It's what I'm working with though. I'm trying to make standard-only decks for the new players who are now able to buy the old single player expansions.
New players were able to buy old expansions for a while. The only thing that has changed is that now they can buy old packs again with Gold (still not adventures) and the Frozen Throne adventure was (if I'm not mistaken) available to new players all this time already.
But ok, if your goal is to provide decks for new players, why limit it to Standard then? While most new players might shy away from crafting Wild cards, maybe they'd rather spend around 1000 dust for old cards (mostly Molten Giants, which also work great for Warlock and Hunter) than 5000 (probably more) for cards still in Standard, possibly just for this fight. "New" players are usually not the ones with several thousand dust to spare. And if you want to keep the decks updated, you will have to come up with a new list again in a few months.
I don't mean to question your goal or motivation. If that's what you want to do, go for it. I just think it's not really practical. There might be a Standard-only Mage deck to beat the Lich King with, but I doubt it will be one a new player has easy access to. This is more a challenge than a new player service, in my opinion.
I wasn't feeling sassy at the time. Exodia would be great if it can work in time, using only standard cards. He replied that his exodia also used wild cards.

Second one did the trick. I had Cheeky, but hadn't thought to add swamp leech. And Kadghar was a stroke of genius for use with Khartut. You should submit this to decks. I got a lot of views of my standard DoD adventure decks because people are looking for them.
if youre willing to craft just one wild common card, Kabal Lackey you can play that one with counterspell. restart until you get the two in your opening hand. works best with Mana Bind, which is a rare, its only 140 dust to basically instantly win against him.

I'm kind of stumped right now for ideas.
A guy used bugdet decks to win with all classes
with mage you can use an exodia or a murloc mage or some kind of kelthuzad mage (kelthuzad breaks the lich king ai) also giants mage work
Favorite Cards: 1. Lord Jaraxxus | 2. Malygos| 3. Edwin VanCleef | 4. Zephrys the Great| 5. Deathwing
The question is about a standard only deck, though... it's in the title, and the body.
Ancient mysteries can draw you counterspell to prevent the litch king from setting your health to 1. Mossy horror is good for the taunts. Maybe giants + conjur as win condition?
Since when murlocs are not iN standard? Exodia mage can also be made in standard
Favorite Cards: 1. Lord Jaraxxus | 2. Malygos| 3. Edwin VanCleef | 4. Zephrys the Great| 5. Deathwing
Standard only is a bit restrictive, honestly.
Generally, you should try to finish him before turn 7, or have a sure way of stalling him during the Frostmourne phase to finish him off with a combo right after that. I'm not sure if Standard currently has the cards that allow you to do one of those things with Mage, especially since you need to have a defense up immediately.
To not die right away, Mirror Image and Frostbolt, maybe Frost Nova or Ray of Frost, are pretty much mandatory.

EDIT: Oh, and that was before Mana Wyrm was nerfed. So, that card probably needs to be replaced as well.

Take a look at my most recent deck, Watch post, totem, menagerie shaman.
I beat him with Kabul Lackey into Mana Bind into Platebreaker on turn five.
