So I just started playing about a week ago and I am having trouble choosing a class to build my deck with.
Ive taken some time to research strong deck builds, but I only have mainly basic cards. I bought the starter pack set.
Im struggling to figure out what to play and which deck builds i can do with my collection.
If theres any suggestions or just overall advice for someone who is trying to play this game it would be much appreciated even youtube videos anything that can help me!
Also I have played TCGs before so I have some basic knowledge, and Ive played WoW for a few years back when lich king was relevant.
A simple advise i can give, is try to go for aggro deck in the beginning, as they often are the cheapest. (Aim for aggro hunter, mech hunter or maybe mech paladin).
Hi, I started last month myself, so I have some tips ;)
First off, by packs from the standard rotation until you get a Legendary (there is a guaranteed one in the first 10 packs). After that buy classic packs until you have a decent collection. These cards stay in standard forever so if you're lacking cards, it's best to invest in ones that never become unplayable. I would also not craft any cards of the older standard sets (WitchWood, Boomsday, Rastakhan's Rumble) as those cards will rotate out in April. It's beter to invest in cards that will be around for the next year (I made a Quest Paladin deck with the free Quest I got and worked from there: https://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1314858-quest-with-ladder-logs).
There are plenty of budget decks available, and you can create your own versions by replacing certain expensive cards with some cheaper options. You can check out YouTube video's or streamers on Twitch to see what they are playing and see if you like any of those decks.
Classes like Hunter or Warlock can make decks that don't break the bank. There are cheap Beasts and Zoo cards that can be used until you expand your collection. Can you post some sort of list of what you have?
Thanks guys , Also Im having trouble getting my collection to sync into Innkeeper, what am I doing wrong? and copying decks from the deckbuilder and transferring them into the game? Im not sure what Im doing wrong ?
Troy Im trying to paste my collection or transfer it to innkeeper so you can see it on this website, or i can try and copy a few decks and paste them in the forum

also a welcome to the game from me as well! Good to see, that people still start playing the game! I disagree with the advice of building mech decks though. While they are very cheap and also very strong decks - the most powerful mech cards will leave standard only 3 months from now!!
As was said before: there are strong hunter builds that are not very expensive (mid-range hunter might even be cheaper than agro hunter) and zoo-warlock builds that are cheap & strong.
Yeah agree with the above. Face hunter is the cheapest deck that can be successfully pilot to high ranks.
Honourable mention for the Galakaron decks. Since galakrond is free, only 2 epics per class are needed (plus a legendary that is shared between all 5 decks). Especially for the warlock version. But still more expensive than face hunter.
A piece of advice is be patient and learn how to substitute cards. Almost any deck recipe will require cards you do not have, but often another card will be almost as good. So look for cards that will perform a similar purpose to the card being replaced. Also try to look at what the core strategy of a deck is, as some cards will not be replacable.
Try this one. It's only tier 2 but it does a lot considering how much it costs. It only has 2 epics, no legendaries, and most are common cards. You can use this while building your collection.
You can try the other decks once you have a bigger collection.
Additionally, the game has "secret" quests for beginners which gives gold, dust, classic packs. For example, winning your first 5 practice matches gives a classic pack. I suggest trying to complete those to jumpstart your collection.
See link below for details on the quests and their conditions.
If you don't care about climbing super high yet, almost anything will go. If you're looking to already get Rank 5 at least, then Face Hunter or Zoolock are the cheapest options.
I say Rank 5 because if you achieve Rank 5 until next month, you'll get a golden epic on your season chest (and some commons) next month. That's pretty much the same reward as reaching Legend rank (above rank 1), so there's no need to go crazy on ranks. Even rank 15 gives you a golden rare (same as rank 10, but with less commons), so that should be a minimum.
Also, while Face Hunter is cheaper, it's not exactly a beginner's deck. It's the fastest deck out there, but you have very limited resources and time to deal the maximum amount of damage possible in the shortest time before the enemy simply gets out of reach with their bombs, and knowing exactly in which situation to use burn on the board instead of face requires a great deal of knowledge of what you're facing, specially with the amount of cards out there currently, which for a beginner will be hard to grasp right away.
Zoolock can go a greater distance and have more room to maneuver, though it's slightly more expensive. You can use Reckless Rocketeer instead of Leeroy. I'd say it's more beginner friendly and a little less linear than Face Hunter in gameplay.
- Within the first 10 packs of the current standard sets there'll be a guaranteed legendary, so buy packs 1 by 1 until you open it, then move to the next set. If you're very lucky, you may open them all on the very first pack with just 6 total packs!
* Extra: Each set has a pity timer for legendaries and epics. So try to write down how many packs you opened on each set. The pity timer, as they call it, it's simply a mechanism that guarantees you a legendary in case you're really unlucky. 39 opened packs without one is the maximum limit, with the 40th pack 100% giving you a legendary. Of course you can open one much before that, and in that case the timer resets to 0, so it's important to write it down so at times you can focus on a set you're closing in to a legendary instead of one set that you will be unlikely to get one soon. The pity timer for epics are 10 packs.
The guaranteed legendary within the first 10 packs you open from a set is a special feature, and only happens once for each set. After you open it, the timer is set to 0.
- Avoid crafting epics and legendaries from Witchwood, Boomsday and Rastakhan, as these sets will rotate to Wild in April, while Rise of Shadows, Saviors of Uldum and Descent of Dragons will remain until near the middle of next year.
- Search Youtube for games of Face Hunter and Zoo Warlock that are somewhat recent (2-3 weeks maximum) so you can see those decks in action and get a feel for them. Would strongly recommend.
- I started at the same time as you: around December of two years ago, during Kobolds and was in the same situation: started exactly at the time the power level is at it's maximum with 7 sets available. Just be patient until April, as 3 sets will rotate at once and the power level will drop considerably.
If you plan to buy the pre-order of the next expansion in April (as I did, as it's real good value for the money), it's perfectly fine to use gold to buy packs from the 3 latest sets and start building some collection. Coupled with the pre-order, and some lucky pulls and the Hall of Fame, you will be able to craft pretty much between 2-5 decks you want at April and be pretty much on par with everyone else.
What is the Hall of Fame? Around April some cards of the Classic set may get retired from Standard. When this happens, their dust cost is fully refunded and you get to keep the card anyway. So I strongly suggest planning to arrive in April with around 2k-4k dust in reserves to craft what's gonna rotate, so you get the refund (pretty much gaining back all the dust you spent) and then can still disenchant the card for much extra dust, which will help you immensely.
I will add that budget decks tend to have two general themes: wide or hand.
A wide deck tries to play many minions for as little mana as possible to overwhelm the opponent quickly. As others have said, Hunter and Warlock can do this well with Classic cards for new players and budget players. If you enjoy playing wide then save your dust to craft two copies of the epic card "Sea Giant" which is foundational to any wide deck.
A hand deck tries to stall the game until its selection of large minions becomes unstoppable, or until some clever combination of cards is in hand for some kind of amazing combo play. Priest does this best with Classic cards for new players and budget players. If you enjoy playing hand then save your dust to craft two copies of the epic card "Mountain Giant" which is foundational to any hand deck.
When you play with a friend you can borrow one of their decks. Find people with a more complete collection and use friendly challenges with their decks to learn what you find fun without spending a dime. (I am davidvs#1835)
Yes, spend gold to get 10 Classic packs, and then 10 packs of each of the 2019 expansions. That will guarantee you one legendary card from each of those four sets. Most legendaries only add 2-3% to the win rate of a deck. They are not crucial. But they can be fun!
And be careful about what you craft, because after the next expansion there will be a rotation where older expansions are removed from standard to wild.
Must have legendaries for a beginner collection: Leeroy Jenkins, Zilliax (right?), and probably a class legendary of your choice for a class you have good support cards for and have leveled the hero up to 10, to unlock all the basic class spells, which are very helpful.
Welcome to the game, innately! Feel free to add me to friends LiveWire#18533. Happy to help you with any questions and have tips for you to build a strong collection as fast as possible. Of course $$$ is your best friend there. Don't buy WItchwood, Boomsday, or Rakastan packs. They will be rotating out of standard very soon.
Whatever deck you can put together post it here and we can pick out any lacking cards out of the bunch that can be replaced with others.

Zilliax rotates out in three months. With the time it takes to accumulate dust for new players, crafting Zilliax would be wasted dust IMO.
In Hearthstone combos are fun, and often strong enough to help you win, and winning is fun.
If I were new, I would focus on the Classic Neutral Epics that will never expire and will help as much or more than any legendary.
Wide Decks: Sea Giant
Hand Decks: Mountain Giant, Doomsayer
Murloc Decks: Murloc Warleader
Then switch to the Classic Neutral Rares that will never expire and also enable certain deck archetypes.
Wide Decks: Knife Juggler, Defender of Argus
Hand Decks: Wild Pyromancer, Twilight Drake
Murloc Decks: Murloc Tidecaller, Coldlight Seer
It would take quite a while for a new free-to-play player to craft two copies of all ten cards. But they would have a strong and flexible foundation to play with forever.

if you want to have results: Face Hunter
