There is a local tournament taking place that I will be participating in (first tourny exp). The format unfortunately is Specialist (primary , seconadry, tertiary) and not conquest. It will take place after the balance patch.
What class do you think will be the most relevant to build around? I am usually a control shaman player and comfortable with the deck on ladder but from previous Grand Master Specialist format I never saw anyone bring Shaman, the most successful were Warrior and Mages. But given now we have SoU and Warrior & Mages are nerfed what do you think?
Imo bring the deck u really know. Doesn’t matter which class almost. If u are a master of shaman and have confidence thats a huge advantage and u will rule. Just grab the tech cards u need.
Well I am torn between Highlander Hunter (HH) & Shudderwock Control Value Shaman (SS) -none quest-.
I havent played much HH but from this weeks Grandmaster it seemed very sold and crushing mages and warriors (and even a targeted ban), and with the upcoming nerfs to those classes I can see it being stronger. I think its only weakness is aggro? So I think you can have a secondary to protect urself from aggro and and what would your tertiary target?
As for SS (which I am more confident in) my struggles have always been mage, and I didn't play it this season yet with SoU release but did for the past two seasons get to rank 4 with it easily. I think I can go primary to target warriors, secondary to target mage & hunters and 3rd to target aggro?
Absolutely! Imo no duplicate decks are Hard for the specalist format. I mean How can u tech effectively against an archetype and dont lose your power level. I dont wanna influence u too much, but im a big tourney watcher and i think shaman is a good way in specialist. Shaman has many tools and u are really good in it.
HH is good against a lot of things, but even with a side-deck I think it's hard to make it good against aggro decks such as Rogue or Warrior. Or maybe not ? Could try to place ooze + 1/2 pirate + bone wraith + karthut or things like that.
I'm just like you I enjoy controlly shaman decks a lot, but I think there's no way you can side-deck it to beat either Mage or Warrior unfortunately. But if it's just a fun tournament bring what you like !
Yeah maybe u are right, but the only thing I concerned is u have to switch 10 cards in a highlander deck. I think u cant make it viable, but a normal deck there is better chance.
Off topic: rogue is weakened a bit in this expansion, but imo one of the best perform ing class in specialist format
Well, if it's the same specialist as was used in Grandmaster's last season, you can only tech out a maximum of five cards per deck. If you have to worry about lowering the power level of the deck for different matchups, you're teching the deck wrong.
