Hey guys, I was doing some theorycrafting on the new expansion and it's Odd/Even mechanic.
There are some good ideas going around, and some interesting decks being made by people and all but I just realized that Odd decks have a major flaw in them that may even make them only good/usable on the next year's rotation:
Yeah, that's it! The Darkness adds three 4 mana cards on the opponent's deck and therefore makes all the other cards except Baku pretty useless after it's battlecry. Sure, face hunter will probably survive as you just want to rush people down before they have the time to react and if you play a 0/0 on turn 4 to remove some synergy from their cards, well... You're dead.
But all the other decks that are more on the tempo and control side of deckbuilding? Odd-Taunt/control druid, Odd-priest and Odd-mage? If they ever become good, if they ever become meta they can easily be targeted with The Darkness as a tech.
Even decks have Weasel Tunneler rotating out so they don't care. The only other card that can kill the enemy's deck's synergy is Psychic Scream but that is more of a lategame card at least and it was broken before anyway.
My personal opinion is that the class legendaries are going to be Even and Odd legendaries and they will probably try to feature some "Start of the Game" effects themselves so they don't get easily countered like rest of the cards. If they don't do that with Odd Class Legendaries that require the Odd deck or make Odd legendaries that have no restriction at all Odd decks are just doomed.
So what do you guys think? Are we just going to see Normal and Even decks? Odd decks are gonna be relegated to aggro decks?
Any tech card included to counter a specific deck will not kill that deck off because the tech card will not be played unless the deck is really popular.
This includes tech cards that target odd and even decks.

just no. even and odd decks aren't even likely to have many even/odd effect cards from what we know so far, so even if the darkness became a meta card (hint: it won't), its not going to counter much of anything. furthermore, i'm pretty confident that odd decks a) will be much more common than even decks, and b) will be primarily control decks because i) control decks are more likely to be willing to float mana (which odd decks will necessarily have to do) and ii) the upgraded hero powers more heavily benefit control decks/classes

If the Even/Odd archetype doesn't take off when WitchWood releases there will most likely be more supporting cards in the other two expansions coming this year.

No, there will not be. Except if you count supporting cards cards that have odd casting cost and even casting cost, than yes, there will be such cards.
Why would people play a terrible card to stop part of some decks, that they need to draw and play, and the worst part, the biggest influence of baku is at the start of the game, so the darkness won't stop baku, so far it will what?
make you not draw a card via black cat(not that big of a deal, you don't draw a card but your opponent plays garbage cards, win/win), not let you play glitter moth (which probably sucks, win more card that needs set up that's harder to do without actual 4 drops), and make your +2 health Druid of the Claw a 2/6(let's face it the stag kinda sucks).
The darkness or the other rogue card from TGT weren't counter to reno decks at their prime, baku decks won't be countered by it either.
Let's make it cleared in the tournament like 80% of the people brought razakus or something like that, in the tournament meta where you are guaranteed to face raza the darkness saw no play.
I also thought in kobolds the darkness could keep razakus in check I was wrong, if the meta was 90% razakus even then you would need to play it before they raza and even then they are just delayed, and not actually countered.. too much stuff needs to go well for it to work.
Something tells me someone will figure a way to get a Baku-Frost Lich Jaina deck to -- oh wait, the discount doesn't apply to hero power switches, last I heard. If so, drat. FLJ is practically spamming hero power each round for more water elementals.
Also, anyone notice Elise the Trailblazer takes a huge hit in control decks that might want to run Even/Odd? Elise is an odd 5, but drops a 2-cost pack.
Wild Elise Starseeker can run in an even wild deck though.

Also that is a blind guess, in fact it's a rhetorical guess, it's pretty obvious the only odd and even cards are Baku, Genn, and the cards that support them in some classes.
They specified that the only odd/even cards will be Baku, Genn and the supporting class cards, also Baku and Genn are opposites, odd and even, if you add more to that equation then Baku and Genn are just a couple in a bunch of gimmicks
The Darkness- Turn 4 do nothing and reduce your maximum board spots for minions by 1 for most of the game, all while playing against an opponent with an upgraded hero power. When your turn 5 starts, you should expect to see the following:
A) You have no board and are behind because your opponent wiped it out through the increased value of their hero power (Mage, Druid, Rogue, Paladin, and Shaman).
B) You are behind in a control matchup (Warrior, Warlock, and Priest). They do not have to play cards as long as you are doing nothing and are just collecting their removal for the Darkness.
C) Hunter has already gotten you below 20 health and has deal 3 damage to your face for 2 mana.
The Darkness will always be a fun meme card moonlighting as a mostly ineffective tech hate card.
My guess is that since there are 2 class legendaries again on non-shaman classes the legendary will be an even/odd legendary (actually this may even be true for the shaman hero legendary... since she's 8 and their class card is an even card, you may only be able to use her on the even deck. The other legendary will be non-even/odd related.
But either way I think putting a crappy card in your deck isn't going to help... the only way the darkness get's used is if there is enough battlcry doubling effects that would make the darkness more likely.

but aren't baku and genn based on whether or not your starting deck is all odd or even?

Thing is, for The Darkness to be a counter to odd decks, odd decks need to be meta, and that contradicts your point

It says beginning of the game for a reason. It wont matter.
Jim please explain to me why raza priest got nerfed.
I'll give you time. And that's a deck that has raza curving out AFTER the darkness.
The Darkness didin't stop Raza/Kazakus priest so why would they stop odd decks? It's a tech card against them, but that's it.

Well it wasn't played against turret priest so most likely won't show up.

There is no sense in making such statements before we see AT LEAST half of new cards revealed
