Béside Hearthstone I play Eternal a lot and they have a minimum rule of 75 cards deck. You can go more than double that amount, but no one really want anything more than the 75 minimum anyway. So I think even if Blizzard allow unlimited cards in a deck, ppl still go for 30 anyway. In a card game which tempo play a huge role as HS, draw the wrong cards 2-3 turn in a row is pretty much mean game over so ppl dont really want bigger deck. I think Control deck with good card draw may want 35 cards deck to put more tech cards and wincon in it, thats all.
I think they will in the future release some sort of Legendary minion/quest/enchantment/aura that when put into your deck will increase the limit to let's say 40. But that's not even necessarily a good thing. Putting more cards in your deck is generally crippling yourself.
Well, the OP is talking of "getting rid of the restriction", without any mention to another hardtop.
Having cards that generate extra cards in deck is not exactly the same thing as the limit in deckbuilding, even if similar in some ways.
And yes, having more cards is arguably crippling, but you must consider that Wild exists, and redundancy will increase there, over time.
Giving the chance for variation opens up ways to lose control over the game mechanics, from the devs side and for balance purposes, and that is not good.
In general, we are talking of an unnecessary cause of variation for the competitive side of the game.
In Casual, it is less critical, but then again, how necessary is such an option on the long run?
Not really a good idea. Won't add any diversity or new decks to the meta, unless someone finds a way to make something broken with it, which they probably will.

Interesting. I think it was in Heroes of Might and Magic where there was no restriction, you could also play heroes with different health if I remember correctly. I ended up play decks with too many cards. I am not sure if this will be a good or bad thing. I am actually happy with the 30 card restriction because I think it would be chaos, It would probably kill netdecking as I would not be easy posting 50 card decks etc.
mtg has a minimum cardlimit of 60, with max of 4 of each card in your deck... its a minimum cardlimit for a deck, people were making 250 card decks for the reason of

What about getting rid of this restriction? (Mostly for fun decks, that do not care for consistensy.)
Nope. At least not in Ladder and Arena.
Rules must be equal to everyone for competitive environments.
Anyway, you must always have a hardtop for deckbuilding, in any game mode. It can't be indefinite.

30 cards is honestly perfect. There's no reason to change the restriction.
