Hey guys ! As an immense fan of Warcraft's universe and lore, and as an avid - not good, just avid - player of Hearthstone, I'm proud to begin my journey on this forum and a registered member and start a thread of my own about the cards I create. I usually try to make them fairly balanced, but it might happen that some are way too OP. What I'm aiming at, however, is making nice, fun and sometime fancy cards about the characters I love from this blindingly enchanting universe we all share. I guess I'll try to post them along as I create them, probably ordered thematically.
I would love to hear your feedback/criticism/insight about these cards and what mechanic or character you'd like to see ingame someday. It's all about creativity and sharing, eh ? I'll update with some comment as to how the card works !
Enjoy :)
I'll open this thread with a few cards I crafted recently, with the following theme : Legends of Azeroth. I'll add some content soon !
Garona: Pretty balanced maybe a little too strong, probably should be a 5/5
Drek'thar: Solid, helps with the Shaman's lack of healing. The problem is Shaman needs card draw, other than that it's pretty good.
Medivh: This card is the SO overpowered, no joke it's too strong 4 mana flamestrike deal 8 dmg to all enemy minions that's too strong. My recommendation is to make him 3/7 spells cost (2) less and have a 25% chance to duplicate the effect.
Muradin Bronzebeard: No clue what Provocation is but it looks like a worse Ysera. Need to know what Provocation is to evaluate this card.
Varian Wrynn: Don't know what Provocation is. This card looks okay if you have a board it's good, if not it's kind of bad. Although if played against Priest I want a special line like, '' It's time to come home, my Son.'' reference to Anduin being in Pandaria and having the SI:7 come after him to bring him home.
You didn't explain what Provocation is... Also just about every single one of these cards is moderately to hilariously over-statted for its mana cost. Legend != categorically better (except for Dr. Boom).
Garona is only slightly OP, she loses 2 stat points for stealth + a powerful deathrattle.
Drek'Thar has 4*2+7 = 15 stat points, which would be in line for 7 mana except that he also has a healing battlecry. Generally, healing of a decent amount is worth 1-2 mana. So he should cost at least 8 mana.
Medivh... you could empty your hand in one turn, and on average have a huge damage increase. Just no. Even 2 fireballs (at 1 mana each) would average 18 damage on the turn he came out. Plus lots of other spells would be free.
Muradin - 4+12+taunt is in line for an 8-drop, interesting battlecry.
Varian has 14+8+taunt = 23 when he comes out AND summons 1+7+taunt for a total of 32 stats for 8 mana? That's double normal value.
Guardian loses 1 stat point in exchange for +1/+1 across the board? Not sure that's balanced.
Currently editing Garona & reviewing the whole concept on Wrynn. Medivh was obviously OP, but then again it's tempting not to make a monstrous minion when dealing with such a figure of lore. Now regarding Drek'Thar: I know this card is A HUGE LOT for 6 mana, but shaman are in such a bad place right now I wanted to do something exceptional - a game changing minion which exploited overload instead of piling on... Of course, the card is far from being balanced - even though it looks like a cute little girl compared to former Medivh - but it seems as if it could compensate for one of shaman's many problems: lack of healing. The charge is a bonus to enhance board-control. Overall the card is certainly worth 8 mana, but hey, I'll let this one stay OP.
Muradin is I think a fantastic card for board control for our warrior friends, which exploits the quite unexplored "silencing" feature of the game, and affects both sides of the board. Ysera-typed body to block the aggro, which I think could be a good thing in the current meta.
I changed Medivh to a "choose-one" type of card, only for mage: 7 mana 4/6 with either a -2 cost for spells, or 50% to cast a spell twice. Now this still is kinda OP, and I think 8 drop might be the best way to go. Obviously, if you can't deal with him the turn he's played, it'll probably be lethal. Then again RNG cancer could make this card very average, or just insane.
Ok, this is more of a nit-picky sort of comment and just one of my personal pet peeves, the wording. Not trying to be rude but here are some suggestions for card corrections. These just keep it in line with some existing cards.
Drek'Thar: Change it to 'Restore 4 Health to your hero plus the amount of your Overloaded (bold) mana crystals.'
Medivh: Use a colon (:) instead of a dash (-) and maybe change it to 'Your spells have a 50% chance to trigger twice'. Just a clarification thing, does it trigger secrets twice? Also, Choose One is a sort of Druid mechanic so you might want to fiddle around with that but up to you.
MuradinBronzebeard: Change it to 'Battlecry: Silence ALL other minions.'
Zul'Jin: Change it to 'Deathrattle: Transform this minion into a random Primal Loa.'
TyrandeWhisperwind: Change it to 'At the end of your turn, restore a random friendly minion to full Health.'
Again, not trying to be mean, just trying to give some constructive criticism :)

Have a great deck that's really, really cheap? Help the new players out
So these are even more OP than I thought...

Oops ! My bad on the taunt/provocation confusion. I'll have that edited ;)
I knew Medivh was overpowered - I'll change it as per your recommendations. I'll tweak the other stats too !

I fully agree on Garona's stats.

Garona: Add full stops. Also, no reason but you might want to add a mana cost to Kingsbane. (Also, you might want to use this art for Kingsbane. http://wow.tcgbrowser.com/images/cards/medium/kingsbane.jpg)
Drek'Thar: Change it to 'Restore 4 Health to your hero plus the amount of your Overloaded (bold) mana crystals.'

No offense taken of course, this helps a lot. Wording is indeed an important part for card creation. I'll edit those as soon as I get the time !
Thanks for feedback man :)
