Hi! So, I guess I just recently joined the other day, mostly because I like making up cards and I'm kind of curious about getting into the weekly competitions maybe. But I thought I'd start off by sharing one of my favorite more recent collections. Hope you like!
So the concept here is pretty simple. I kind of like the Shaman Hero Power a lot, and I got to wondering why, when I see people speculating about other potential hero powers (whether for future heroes or as alternative for existing heroes), few take its approach. I think it's a fun approach because, while I generally think it's pretty important to keep hero powers to effects that are simple and able to be concisely worded, the way the Shaman power works kind of gets around that. Additionally, the fact that no particular random effect can be spammed means that we can get away with effects (like the Stoneclaw Totem or Wrath of Air Totem) that would normally be too powerful if spammable. There are lots of things you could do similarly, like "Equip a random Weapon" and "Put a random Spell in your hand" and so on (each from a limited list of unique options, of course), but the most interesting possibility to me is Secrets. And, if we're going to give Secrets to a fourth class, who better a candidate than the deceptive Rogue?
Now, the thing about Secrets that makes this even more interesting is that, because of their natures being activated on your opponents' terms, they need to be just a tad more powerful than what you'd normally get for their cost. This is, for example, why Freezing Trap does the same thing as Sap but also gets to increase the target's cost or why Avenge does the same thing as Blessing of Might but also gives the target a Health boost. For a hero power like this not to simply be delayed, random, inconsistent, unreliable, uncontrollable versions of existing hero powers, the potential outcomes need to be just a little bit better. Impersonate is a slightly beefed up Life Tap, Setup is a slightly beefed up Fireblast, Shadow is a slightly beefed up Reinforce, and Treachery is a slightly beefed up Steady Shot.
But wait, there's more! Rogues currently have quite a few class cards, including their best AoE, tied to their use of weapons, and although a Deception Rogue could still put the class's other available weapon cards in their decks, I still think it'd be cool for them to have some cards that have synergy with their Secrets specifically. And why not also throw in a few things the Dagger Mastery Rogue can use too?
Let me know what you think, thanks for reading, and happy gaming!
