Hello guys, I'm new here on the forums and I would like to participate more often. Today I'm making this thread to discuss something that I have had in mind for a loooooong time; the Hunter.
So... first I would like to say that english is not my native language so if I make mistakes please forgive me :( So I will try to do this the quickest I can so I will not mess up with my words lol.
My problem is that Hunter is not versatile. It's very difficult to make a different kind of deck with him that's not aggro. Even with the new cards that he got it's difficult and the results do not compare with the other control decks (or midrange) that the other classes have. The problem here is not the new cards; the old cards are! The basic set of the Hunter can't be implemented on the new meta. The Buzzard is useless; the Timber Wolf is not good enough and they're not enough good beasts to justify him; Tracking is just horrible in a control deck; the Rhino suffers the same thing as the Timer Wolf and at last, the Hunter's epics are just complete trash. At least the legendaries could have sooooooooome use in very specific situations.
So, this thread is made to work on the Hunter and make cards that would make him more versatile. The thing is that Hunter is an aggressive class by nature, i mean, just look at his hero power! But that doesn't mean that he could not vary from an full-face-aggro-deck. He deserves more love and some good cards. If the whole (or at least some) of the Hunter's repertory of cards change not only the meta would change to a more controlly kind of thing but also the hate that all the universe have to the poor Hunter may disappear.
So to begin I would like to present you some cards that I made. These cards move around the hero power and make it important for the Hunter's playstyle.
1. Rookie Hunter:
This is the Hunter's Mana Wyrm. All the cards that I will show here are not instant replacements for any existing cards yet so, idk, think that this would replace Timber Wolf or something. I made this card to do the same as Mana Wyrm; an annoying first drop that can get out of control but his little life make him a perfect target for early game spells/trades so it won't be op.
2. Armored Bear:
I always thought that Animal Companion was so inconsistent for a more stable matchup, so this is the mid-game-kind-of-thing that Hunter may use. But also this may be fucking op + Houndmaster, so I guess that we can imagine that he doesn't exist in this thread's world...
3. Rapid Fire:
:
This card is and AOE idea, similar to Avenging Wrath, but it synergizes with the hero power. Also, if you use this after shooting a lot with your power this may shoot an insane number of proyectiles, making it great for boardclear and as a finishing blow! (if the enemy doesn't have any minions this can be an insane burst to his face). The number of damage that the spell would do should be placed at the end of the card's description between parenthesis.
4. Unerring Shot:
This is based on Shield Slam, but its a bit harder to get high damage with it. Hard removal, just that. The damage should be shown at the end of the card's description, like Rapid Fire.
I hope that u guys will be interested on this :( so we can maybe do some work at the Hearthstone's current meta. I made some other cards but I think I can do better and these ones already show the concept that i went for: the hero power.
I will be waiting to see your ideas to make a better and more interesting Hunter!
Agree to aRc about the spells and Armored bear. The one drop is not OP I think but I think that it implies aggro playstyle which you were trying to strafe away from.

The Rookie Hunter does not necessarily implies an aggro playstyle, it can be good in different situations. Also, I'm not exactly trying to delete the "aggroness" of the Hunter, just make him more viable on other areas, sorry if I made that impression. I think full aggro Hunter should always exist, but also it should exist control and midrange or another variations, like full weapon Hunter or some crazy thing like that. I even did the spells thinking in a very patient and passive Hunter playstyle.
The Armoured Bear is an easy fix to make it balanced: Make it a 5 mana 3/7 taunt, which replaces a useless Hunter 5-drop like Starving Buzzard.
Personally, for a revamp to Hunter I would remove Unleash the Hounds and bring Starving Buzzard back to a 2 mana 2/1.
I like your second observation about UTH. One of the big problems that Hunter has is the lack of card draw. You run out of things reaaaaally quickly and if we're thinking in a more stable Hunter that's a problem.
Maybe change the steam sniper to 3 mana but have ur hero power targeting minions as a battle cry so ur hero power becomes not just a aggro tool. I like the idea of the armor bear, it's not op at all, seems to be in the same page as water ele, if u change it to a 5 mana 3/7 it's pretty much a crappy version of the druid of the claw since they have the same stats but druid can also charge.

A think the Sniper could be essential in the days to come! I was thinking about some cards that may enhance the hero power of the Hunter in terms of damage, obviously for just a short period of time.
At the same time I thought about other mechanic that the Hunter may use. I guess that the "Hunter thing" is the Charge ability... or something. I just thought about a "Stun" ability, i guess it makes sense that some beasts could stun enemies, protecting their master Rexxar! It would act similar to the current "Frozen" state that some cards applies like Water Elemental. The Stun effect also could be applied to some weapons. I have read some things and from that i can say that rexxar was never a man of bows, but if he is using one in Hearthstone I think it makes sense that some bow can stun, or some spell, like <<"Something" Shot>>, rangers always have some kind of stun! So the enemies can't get near.
So here I'm posting 3 cards. One of them is a exact replica of one that I saw on the WOW TCG, I think is really good and a perfect replacement for Tracking.
I don't know if this Call Pet is necessary better than the current one, but maybe it could work better... and it makes more sence with the name.
I will keep thinking of more Hunter shit. I hope some of you can also post cards.
Great work dude!, I love Armored Bear! and that version of call Pet is way cooler that the original version.
If those cards were real definitely I would play control-beast hunter.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"As part of ongoing communication with the WoW developers, it has been agreed that Hearthstone is now the official source of WoW lore. We hope you look forward to seeing Ragnaros, Lightlord in Legion!"
I really like the idea of Stun, so much in fact that I would replace the Freeze effect with it, so it's a bit more universal than something only ice-related cards can accomplish.
Oh, and here's a card. Where are you getting all this good Hunter art, by the way?

I thought that Stun should be like Windfury with the Shaman, like a unique thing from the class but it can also be shared with some another neutral cards.
And haha the art is from the WoW TCG, you can find the links in the "Making A Custom Card - Hints & Tips" post here on the forum.
Also, I was thinking about something with Bear Trap, I think the name just sounds so plane, not special enough, but maybe it can be a token of something. The 5 damage idea I think is really decent, but idk if may be op lol. If Snipe made 5 damage it would be op?
Well, Traps are usually better because your opponent has to reveal them first. A common practice whenever a secret is out is letting the most worthless minion attack first so that it takes the bait, so Bear Trap might be a little underpowered because of that.
For the Stun mechanic, it would be odd if there was both Stun and Freeze, as they do the exact same thing, so perhaps if Stun was to do something else than that wouldn't be a problem. For instance, Stun could make it so that the minion targetted has "50% chance to attack the wrong enemy."
So then Stun would last on a minion for the rest of the turn that you give it Stun, and then on your opponent's turn it would no longer be there?
i.e. You play Dire Tallstrider on your opponent's Leper Gnome, giving it zero attack for the rest of the turn. Then, when you end your turn, the effect wears off and Leper Gnome is back to 2 attack.
I was thinking that a stunned minion could just not attack back when you attack it, until it dies, but the minion can still deal damage when it attacks. If that makes any sense. I don't think it is overpowered, compare it to aldor peacekeeper.
I just love cards like Tracking. In this case, eagle sight is better in a controlly deck but tracking can be better for a midrange deck. The benefit of tracking is, it thins your deck so you can draw your combo pieces sooner. At least that's how it was used pre-buzzard nerf.
And your version of call pet just makes much more sense.
Hello doods. Thanks to everyone for the feedback <3. Well... here are some other cards.
From what I have read Rexxar was never a man of bows, so he having a basic weapon that is his axe is somewhat accurate.
Idk, I was just thinking about Timber Wolf. I like the name, I like the art, if he would be changed the change should be subtle.
Instead of Houndmaster. This may be op lol but it depends of what kind of beasts we can imagine on the neutral set, pretending that we can create new beasts.
Idk if this effect would be good or bad or op but I love this artwork so I had to make some card related to it lol. Imagine this replacing Bestial Wrath.
So, I was thinking about the Stun effect. If it existed I think it would be better to make it different from the Frozen effect in some way. Maybe making it unsilenceable or something, or making that 0 attack effect on the target, but that effect should last until the enemy turn. Around this I was thinking about a "Destroy a stunned minion" type of card.
The whole point of the hunter is that it utilizes the card set it is given. Hunter is a beast orientated secrets deck, it is usually a rush deck. Same way warriors are control warriors, loks are rush/handlok,druids ramp/mill. Nice ideas in the cards though!
Well thats the point on every class. Hunter is an aggressive class for nature but if changes were made he could be a lot more versatile. For example, even just deleting UTH and returning the Buzzard to his original state would make the beast Hunter more viable.

I think stun could be a cool mechanic as like That minion can not deal damage when attacked, so it basically has 0 attack on your turn.
EDIT: This would also encourage trading for the hunter and therefore making control or mid range hunter better.
So then Stun would last on a minion for the rest of the turn that you give it Stun, and then on your opponent's turn it would no longer be there?
