Overview
All contestants will create one custom class, following the layout of Demon Hunter.
There will be a total of 45 cards to be made.
All contestants will select one out of the three expansions for their custom class to arrive in-game: Ashes of Outland, Scholomance, and Darkmoon Faire. These are the three sets that came after the arrival of Demon Hunter.
The contest will run for 4 weeks.
Week One: 10 Basic cards.
Week Two: 10 "Initiate" cards.
Week Three: The other 10 "Initiate" cards.
Week Four: 15 expansion cards.
"Initiate" means the supplemental 20 cards Blizzard printed for Demon Hunter. Yours do not have to be named Initiate set.
Challenge
You have a choice between two challenges this week!
One of your cards must change your hero power in some way. For this reason, we ask all contestants also include an upgraded Hero Power token, regardless of whether you use it or not, just in case.
One of your cards must use an old keyword, but not in its keyword form. An example of this would be Phase Stalker, which is essentially an Inspire card but without the Inspire keyword.
Submission Format
You must adhere to the following rules or risk disqualification:
Unless otherwise stated, you are allowed three cards to showcase. All other cards must be hidden in a spoiler.
You may include flavour texts. For the showcase cards, their texts do not need to be spoilered.
All tokens must be in a spoiler.
You may include a single banner at the top of your submission post. It may not be overly fancy. This is entirely subjective and the moderators have the right to remove a banner they feel is too fancy and, therefore, gives an inherent advantage over other posts.
Golden cards are not allowed, nor are huge images that feature your cards with a background.
If you choose to include other images other than a banner, they must be hidden behind a spoiler.
Rules
How is the Initiate set split in half?
There are 8 commons, 6 rares, 4 epics, and 2 legionaries. That makes splitting the Initiate set in half rather easy.
For Weeks Two and Three, contestants will create 4 commons, 3 rares, 2 epics, and 1 legendary.
What expansions can I choose from?
You may select either Ashes of Outland, Scholomance Academy, or Darkmoon Faire.
Uh oh spaghettios, class cycles.
You must have at least one all-class cycle.All-class, in this context, means both a cycle shared between all 9 classes, or a cycle that the League of EVIL classes or Explorers classes share.
While, at first, it seems to make sense that your custom class should adhere to all all-class cycles in a given expansion, Demon Hunter did not have a Prime legendary, therefore you only need to use one such cycle.
To clarify, here are the all-class cycles you may choose from:
AoO: There is no cycle shared between all classes.
However, 9/10 classes have a Prime legendary and 9/10 classes have a Dormant minion.
Scholomance Academy: Dual-class cards.
Dual-class cards present a major logistics challenge. Depending on how many entries decide to choose this expansion as their starting point, the solution to this challenge will differ.
Madness at the Darkmoon Faire: One class Corrupt card (Rogue and Warrior have one, while Priest has three, all other classes have two)
What about card cycles not shared between all nine classes, like Studies spell cards, or Aspirant cards?
You may pick and choose from those.
What about Hero Cards?
I have decided to disallow Hero Cards. While I am aware Warlock came with Jaraxxus in their Classic set, I feel as though a new class receiving a massive power spike in the form of a Hero Card while other classes did not in that expansion will create an even worse problem DH did upon arrival.
Can I rename the "Initiate" set to whatever I want?
Yes.
What watermarks do I use?
For the "Initiate" set, you can use whatever watermark you think makes the most sense. There is a list of watermarks here.
Do I have to follow the rarity distribution of the Demon Hunter Initiate set?
Yes.
You may not introduce a Legendary spell, weapon, or Hero in the Initiate set as there are none in the current Demon Hunter example we've been given.
Do I need to adhere to Warcraft lore?
The short answer: no.
The long answer: Try your best to do so. Even if your Hero is not a character found in Warcraft, you can still achieve a general feel of Warcraftiness by using in-game place names and references. Put in the work and use some elbow grease. Do your research on Wowpedia.
Do I need class-exclusive keyword?
No.
Can I do a Monk or Death Knight class?
No.
Competition Process
Week 1: December 16th - December 23nd Week 2: December 24th - December 31st. Week 3: January 1st - January 8th Week 4: January 9th - January 16th
Hey everyone, happy to be here for phase 2 ! Because of the holidays, I don't know when I'll be able to make cards but for the time being I'm on mobile. That being said, I'd like to pitch a couple ideas early on before I start working on my set.
The first thing is the keyword for my class. I don't think every custom class needs a new keyword but I have a couple of ideas for this one.
Omen - This card is (secretely?) visible when it is at the top of your deck.
OR
Omen - When played, (secretely?) reveal the top card of your deck.
I'm not sure which one is best and my wording might be influenced by Legends of Runeterra but the gist of it is that I want a keyword that can go on any card type and that reveals (only to you ?) the top card of your deck. This provides synergy with the class' hero power and other draw effects.
I'm also interested in make a few cards that have special effects during deck creation. This isn't a very common design in card games but I find deckbuilding is the most fun part of any card game so I think it would be cool.
I'm a little torn when it comes to choosing an expansion for my class. The character I chose (Nobundo) is a Broken Draenei so he has obvious ties to Outland and he also happen to have fought the Old Gods during the Cataclysm. So both AoO and MatDF are sound options but I'm not a fan lf these options... AoO was tailored for the Demon Hunter class so I'm not sure my class can fit mechanicaly and thematicaly ; MatDF already has a lot of ground covered when it comes to the Seer's themes (specificaly, the character Sayge is already taken). At the end of the day, I'm also a big fan of SA's flavor and design. Dual class cards are super cool and since Nobundo was both a Paladin and a Shaman I have a pretty good road map for it. Something along the lines of a guidance conselor could be really fun for the Seer.
Fairly simple upgrade, like most hero powers it just doubles the effect.
The skaven society works and revolves around warpstone, a coagulated form of pure magic. Such a powerful substance works as fuel for skaven magic, skaven technology and is a powerful mutagen, twisting the ratmen into horrible things. This token spell will work similar to Soul Shards for warlock and demon hunter, being generated by weak and average cards to later be consumed by stronger cards.
Warp Lightning is from the basic set for those who forgot:
Ikit is meant to be a game finisher, a powerful option that although slow, allows for great burst damage. It is not as busted as you might think on first glance, as he does cost 7 mana. The Warp Lightnings also can discard each other if your hand is almost empty, so you need to be careful and plan ahead your use of warpstone.
Besides this unique mechanic which replaces the class specific keyword, skaven also have the good old aggressive board flooding aspect:
Token:
These cards are straightforward and paint the picture of how a skaven aggressive deck could work. Plenty of tokens and buffs, some direct face damage and a couple of bigger minions to end the game.
I do know i am missing a rare card, that will be a spell that answers one of the challenges. I simply don't have any good ideas at the moment.
It does 2 targeted damage (so always to an enemy character) and gets you a warpstone shard, which is presumably what you're mining for. Seems like successful mining with an additional positive outcome. If the damage was random I could see why it would be an accident.
Also, is it a typo that Mining accident creates a warpstone 'Token' while the others cards refer to warpstone 'Shards?'
I like the look of the class generally, though, hope you keep getting through.
Merry Christmas & so forth.
Yes, i made a mistake in the card text, should be Shard like in all the others. I suppose i could name it something else, like Mining Charge or Explosive Mining.
Thanks a lot for the kind words and Merry Christmas to you too!

I thought the card was perfectly fine. That kid is just trying too hard to critique something. In fact I think your set is excellent overall. Seems like a very interesting class.
Thank you to everyone who voted for me to get to this round. Since the last Class Competition, I've had the idea for this class and its keyword.
I present to you, Harvest:
Harvest is essentially the Scheme mechanic from Rise of Shadows, but it applies to minions and weapons as well. I am very excited to show all of you some of the ideas I have with this keyword. Here is a sneak peak at two of them, with some help I need with one of them.
"Call me crazy, but I swear I just saw C'Thun hiding in that thing."
"Great at cutting down wheat, barley, and foes."
Now this is the one I'm worried about. Does this card seem balanced? I feel like this design may be a little dangerous.
And lastly, my basic Hero Power is "Give a minion +2 Health." For an upgraded Hero Power, would +3 or +4 be more acceptable? Thank you to anyone that helps me.
This feels very similar to schemes. Harvest could be replaced by "upgrades each turn". I feel like you should find something more unique. Fel Scythe is also a bit dangerous. Slow as hell, but could end up an OTK if your class gets enough control cards to delay the game.
Now that my Christmas celebration is over, let's get creating
Upgraded Hero Power:
The Detective: Dossier of the Apprentice
The class's keywords (yes, there are two keywords, but they will be directly related to each other in the class):
The connection to the class is self-fulfilling. Detectives (in this case both players) Solve Cases. It's basically reverse Quests that your opponent would want to get rid of as soon as possible. You might want to finish the Cases yourself if the case starting to disadvantage you. Cases took the Secret slot, which mean you can only have 5 Cases or less with different names active at the same time. Most of the Cases and their support cards (unless I can't think of anything) are named based on famous detective novels and stories.
A Scandal in Stormwind is named based on the Sherlock Holmes story A Scandal in Bohemia that introduced the famous Irene Adler. This also reference the famous Onyxia raid after she disguised as a noble named Katrana Prestor
And Then There Were None of course reference the famous Agatha Christie novel And Then There Were None.
The Hound of Gilneas is named after the famous Sherlock Holmes novel The Hound of Baskervilles
The rest of the stuffs are expanding on what the Basic set promised:
Tokens / 0 focus stuffs:
Revealing cards / combos:
Combo: 2 x Investigate + 2 x Bribery + Kael'thas + Malygos + 2 x Problems
Note: The Problem at Elrendar Falls reference the famous Sherlock Holmes story The Final Problem where he confronted the famous Professor Moriaty at Reichenback Falls
General "Good stuff" card that can support both:
Legendary card:
Side note: Does Seasoned Detective count as "modify the Hero Power"? It doesn't necessary target the Hero Power but it does help.
Note: After the 3 turn of Arthur Holmes's Deathrattle end, Bribery card will go back to be hidden but will still activate its effect since its revealed condition was fulfilled. You can still discounted and reveal it with Investigate though if it was hidden though.
A few cards I want to include but not sure where to make space. Thinking about dropping Pro bono Detective.
Can the challenge keyword be a keyword from a set that launched after the set where our class will appear? I wanted to use the Corrupt keyword, but then I realised it came before Scholomance where my class will launch.
@Shatterstar1998 I like your cards, not sure what card to drop to include one of the sidekicks (preferably Arcane because you don't seem too have tribal sinergy afaik). When I saw the common 10 mana spell I wasn't a fan because I thought it was weak, but then I realized it could hit face so it's like a Pyroblast with draw, which is okay cause Pyroblast is used as a finisiher so drawing a card isn't that busted. Also, I can't find what challenge did you complete.
EDIT: Oh, I readed it was seasoned detective. Not sure it counts.
I cant do much until tomorrow that im back at home, but, i wanted to think a bit about the Keyword for my class, Warp, i had some ideas that i discarded, like if your deck contains an even number of cards, like it works when you have 24, 22, etc. and play a bit with the card draw, but it felt a bit weird, like a shadowverse class but without the shuffle part that helps to manage the amount of cards you have in your deck alongside the card draw (tell me if you think that the idea is still worth without the card shuffle)
here are some ideas for the keyword i've made, a legendary the i already had, and a card i tried to make today but, as i said, i cant do much i dont even have the art here. (and now that i think it would fit more in ashes of outland set of cards since it would be an even bigger fel reaver)
What do you think?
Edit: chrommies complete name is wiling to change, since the void part doesnt fit that much. it could be something like the consummed or else.

The Cases are interesting, and really fits the class. +1 for the names, too. However, the wording may be adjusted to not sound like an instant effect. For example, A Scandal In Stormwind looks like it will only give -2/-2 for the minions on board, and not on ALL minions all the time (like I suppose its the idea). Had to read a few times to figure it out. Overall, you're quite advanced already, good job. ; )

Quick question, does the iniciate require cards with a year of the dragon themme, like the random Nethrandamus that demon hunter got?
It's not a challenge but if you want to, you can.

Let me know what you think !
I have a question: does the all-class cycle have to be in this half of the set? Or do we need to add one in both halfs?
The Skaven: Warlord set
These are the cards i have for now.
Fairly simple upgrade, like most hero powers it just doubles the effect.
The skaven society works and revolves around warpstone, a coagulated form of pure magic. No need to worry about that. Initiate sets can't have an all class cycle if only one class ever had it.
Yes, i made a mistake in the card text, should be Shard like in all the others. I suppose i could name it something else, like Mining Charge or Explosive Mining.
Thanks a lot for the kind words and Merry Christmas to you too!
Aaaarrgghhh... guess my class was not good enough. Good luck to those who advanced!

Oops, read too fast. Thanks :+1:
