After a long break from these comps, I'm excited to be back in the finalists. First off, everyone should vote for my Abandon Ship! card. I know it's not troll themed, but rogue is supposed to get lots of pirate synergy stuff in this expansion. I wanted to capture that theme without explicit pirate synergy. The idea behind the card is to make your opponent question their positioning (this card and Betrayal have inverted solutions to position), but also make them question if they really want to put out a totem or a 1/1 sliverhand knight, or if not using their hero power is safer.
Secondly, I think this comp would have been better if we had waited to see more overkill cards. Some of these healing based ones just don't seem like believable cards to me.
Excessive Violence: I like this use of Overkill as a drawback. It's simple and clear, fits the theme of going 'too far' that overkill cards are supposed to have. Decent art too, given how difficult it could be to find art for this challenge.
Overcharged Bolt: Nice and clear, but I fear this in the hands of even shaman. I'd have gone with an odd cost and adjusted the damage. But that's a complaint about Genn, not your card.
Purging Flame: Hell yeah, I love this removal. Anti-deathrattle tech is a paladin niche that could use more love, and this is a great way to get at it. Very fitting for an overkill effect, you're killing the deathrattle too!
Wardruid Loti: I've always wished Druid had more reason to play all of those 'give your hero attack and armor' cards. This is a neat way to get at it, 3 mana is a perfect spot to make this a viable card.
I was just going to keep quiet about this because of Sinti's comment about how they just let Twist of Fate slide, but the more I think about this, the more irritated I get. Twist of Fate doesn't work because of how Overkill works. There are others who submitted cards for the week that have actual functional cards that deserve a spot among the other finalists, and yet, we're just going to allow a card that doesn't fit the criteria to just slide by. The card doesn't work whatsoever, meaning it doesn't make the cut here. Other entries deserve the spot. It's not the fault of the admins that someone was confused about how Overkill works, and it's not our problem that they (the creator of Twist of Fate) weren't completely clear on what Overkill requires to activate.
They should not have their entry here. Other people deserve that spot. Don't just give the creator of the card a pass just because you want to be nice. Twist of Fate doesn't belong here. If you're going to just let entries become eligible for a spot as a finalist just because you want to be nice, these competitions don't actually hinge on fairness, making actual rules to follow out to look like a joke.

I won't go that far, but I think it would have been smart to delay this challenge a few weeks until we see more examples of overkill. I'm still not sure on whether overkill triggers on both turns, or only during your turn. This would change the effective balance of every overkill minion that was submitted. Looking over the submission thread, there were many many nonsensical entries, though I've been gone for awhile so maybe the quality of submissions has just decreased.
Think of this way: the healing cards are still nifty ideas, even if it turns out they wouldn't work. Measure them by how much you like the concept, whether you think such a thing would be good for the game. Assume that all entries are functional, then judge from there.

Peter Whalen confirmed that Overkill is only active during your own turn. Makes sense, otherwise Ticket Scalper would be REALLY good.

If you look back to the second blurb in the rules, I acknowledged at the start of this competition that we did not have all of the facts regarding how Overkill truly worked. As such, we were allowing people to experiment to their heart's content, while also hoping that everyone would keep an open mind when it came to voting.
Later in the week when some clarifications for Overkill trickled in from on high, I said in the Discussion thread that we would not retroactively punish anyone who failed to meet the updated standards for Overkill and the means by which it functioned. It was ultimately my "fault" for allowing such cards to exist in the interest of creativity, and I continue to stand by it.
Twist of Fate does not technically work, but its position as a finalist was not and is not dependent on our updated knowledge of Overkill.

Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3
Pretty weak set, I'm sorry to say. The only cards that really stick out for having balance, ingenuity, and flavor are Extortionist's Blade and Overcharged Bolt.

We chose to do it now in the interest of being topical, as people's interest with Rastakhan's Rumble is currently very high (as it usually is at the start of reveal-season). At the same time our WCDC Season 8 is coming to an end, and we will be going on break until the next Season begins in January. Postponing Rastakhan-based themes would mean we'd have to wait an entire month or more, potentially long after people have lost enthusiasm for the new expansion.
Shadows and I were both aware of this possibility, but we moved ahead with the theme anyway. As I noted above, the hope was that people would take the entire thing with a grain of salt, and be open to the fact that we were willfully playing fast and loose with Overkill.

Barring Mini-Comps, the last major theme of this year is ready to rumble!

I was understanding the same for the way it works. You need auchenai or something that turn heal into damage and then overkill apply. It simply can not trigger just by healing.
That said, if we consider the fact that overkill can kill a hero (who is not the case), it would trigger after the death of the hero. Your hero can have a negative amount of life, if the healing effect that trigger after put the hero at more than 0 hp, the hero is still alive. (that also works with minions). So it would works in that case. Here is a concrete exemple of resurection (start at 4:20):
You don't always resurrect after going below 1 health, it depends on the order of operations. An old example of this would be if you were at 2 health, playing against a Warlock, and they have Zombie Chow on the board. The Warlock casts Hellfire and you drop to -1, the Zombie dies and his deathrattle should heal you. But instead you die and the game is over. The Zombie Chow's deathrattle happens after the Hellfire's action is resolved, and when it resolves the game takes notice of your health total, and you are at -1. The game then ends before the Zombie deathrattle can resolve.
But in the video example, the effects on the attacking Wisp all say "Whenever it attacks". So these actions all have to resolve before the attack finishes. The player takes fatigue damage, but then heals back up before the attack is finished, and before the game recognizes the player's life total at or below 0.
While the design wouldn't work, since Overkill is confirmed to trigger on overkilling minions only, they could change the code to allow a card like this to work. Auchenai Soulpriest into Twist of Fate when you are 14 health or less would overkill your hero. However, the Overkill effect would trigger and put your hero at 40 health prior to all card effects resolving. And since the game wouldn't recognize your new health total until all of the card's effects are resolved, it COULD theoretically work if they programmed the keyword to work on your hero for a spell like this.
The "Congratulations!" PM didn't give it away? lol

Dreadlord Jaina would be the least fun card to play against ever. Way too overpowered

It was a pretty good design ;-)
