You must make a Trial card, a custom card type of linkblade91's design!
Trials are like reverse-Quests: they give you a buff or bonus immediately, in exchange for a penalty or rule you must follow for the rest of the game.
Check out the spoiler below to learn about the namesake Legendaries of The Trials Within Us:
The Trials Within Us told nine separate tales of defeating one's personal demons and tackling adversity. The Trial cards were meant to do just that, referencing various people and events across Warcraft's timeline. Preferably, your Trial should also tell some kind of story.
Below are two examples. The collectible card with the Start of Game benefit is called the Trial (the top two), while the "token" describing the negative effect you have to deal with is called the Burden (the bottom two):
Trials do not cost mana because they are played automatically at the start of the game. They take up space in your deck initially, but cannot be drawn or generated and they disappear from your deck after the mulligan.
Trials are technically Even-cost (Zero being an even #). This means they work with Genn Greymane, reflecting Baku the Mooneater's synergy with Quests.
A reminder for the Burden would take the form of a purple gem, just like the orange gem for Quests: when you hover over it in-game, you would see the token card.
Also, like with Journey to Un'Goro, you have to assume there will be other cards related to your Trial released at the same time. When you go to upvote other people's Trials, you shouldn't think about them in a vacuum.
We have whittled down ~80 valid submissions to just 8 of the community's favorites. It was a very interesting week, seeing the different directions you guys went with my theme. Wasn't sure how well it would go, with a custom card type; reception seemed positive, unless I'm way off-base...
Anyway, good luck to the finalists! :)

Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3
Ah yeah I expected the simple cards would do best. It’s tempting to go with something fancy and bombastic when working with a new card type, but that makes balance and logistics far more complicated
Interesting cards this week. I don't know if I prefer flashier designs or more basic ideas, they're all interesting to think about how you would build a deck with them.
Although, Hunter's Despair has no downside. Your Deathrattles are now Battlecries, so you have no Deathrattle cards to cost (1) more. It's just a free upgrade on all your Deathrattle cards (with the 'downside' of losing Deathrattle synergies).

I think the intention was that any original deathrattle card would cost 1 more. Though even with that I still think it's OP with stuff like Devilsaur Egg (4 mana 5/8) and Mechanical Whelp (7 mana 9/9). Plus it's confusing and borderline non-functional with cards like Carnivorous Cube, Voodoo Doll, and Kathrena Winterwisp. Not my favorite card of the week.
Glacial Skin has got to be my favorite. Such a simple, balanced and flavorful design! I also voted for Lethality though, as it was a close second to me
throwing this out there as a potential theme suggestion: Design a hero card from a non-warcraft Blizzard game sounds fun.
I got inspired for that by someones I think neutral spell from a couple weeks ago.
Im sure we have had "design a hero card" before, not with a restriction that it has to be from non-warcraft universe tho. That being said, i dont think its a very good prompt, ppl usually make super broken or super complex cards that they cant word properly, cause the text just wont fix and more importantly, a lot of those cards become just too confusing given their complexity. I dont mind if someone makes a hero card as part of a broader theme, but having it as a sole focus is not a good idea in general imho. Mby we can do it next year, when KFT will rotate out, im sure we will have a commemorative comp for that, or at least mini-comps in between WCDC seasons.
Anyway to the finalists: yay, i made it! :) I personally enjoyed this prompt, it was something new and most ppl designed at least an interesting card, if not outright great one, so kudos to you all (not only the finalists).
What i dont particularly like tho is interchanging keywords, like deathrattle for battlecry or combo, not so much from the mechanical perspective (even tho that one is questionable as well), but rather from design standpoint. Imagine such a card would actually exist, not only would it limit deigns space and would probably make some cards/archetypes incredibly broken, but Wild is a thing and it would be there forever. I rly dont like designs that alter the game in such a grand way. I would totally be for it as a Tavern Brawl design or a tech in PVE content, 100%. But not as a regular card for every day play.
I'm thinking Combo Meal maybe a lil to OP. The burden could be used to the players advantage, by flooding opponents hand with coins, then having them burn cards from deck upon drawing. It's still pretty dang cool though, along with all the others. Very tough choice to pick a favorite.

how many finalists do you allow for each final poll?
Depends. It's usually based on the amount of submitters.
Generally speaking, we do Total Amount of submitters/10. We from here round it to the nearest number divideable by 4 to get nice lines. So this time around we had 80 submiters, which gives 8 finalists. If we had 105 submitters, we would have 12 finalists instead.
We also have a little rule to make it competitive, that we always admit atleast 8 finalists, even if there are under 60 submissions.

Check out my Custom Classes (Scribe, Alchemist, and Battlemage)!
Glacial Skin looks good.
Lethality: Totally badass. xD
Hunter's Despair: Awesome and somewhat balanced... probably OP, but definitely fun.
Combo Meal: OPAF. Yes please!
Beer Party: This should really be a tavern brawl!
Good luck to all contestants! Placed my vote for ffinderous's shaman card.

I really like all the designs. very interesting theme and superb finalists. Voted a ton of them but as a Kingsbane Rogue player my fav is Lethality.
Congratulations to Lathy! The next WCDC is ready to go!
