This week's theme comes from ME, as my "Mecha'Zoth" was the winner of our These Go To Eleven competition!
Competition-Specific Restrictions:
You must make a Trial card, a custom card type of my design!
Trials are like reverse-Quests: they give you a buff or bonus immediately, in exchange for a penalty or rule you must follow for the rest of the game.
I created them for our Timestream Tracking competition: they were the heart of my expansion before a dumb, unforced error got me disqualified. Help me process my grief by revisiting this traumatic event DX
Check out the spoiler below to learn about the namesake Legendaries of The Trials Within Us:
The Trials Within Ustold nine separate tales of defeating one's personal demons and tackling adversity. The Trial cards were meant to do just that, referencing various people and events across Warcraft's timeline. Preferably, your Trial should also tell some kind of story.
Below are two examples. The collectible card with the Start of Game benefit is called the Trial (the top two), while the "token" describing the negative effect you have to deal with is called the Burden (the bottom two):
Trials do not cost mana because they are played automatically at the start of the game. They take up space in your deck initially, but cannot be drawn or generated and they disappear from your deck after the mulligan.
Trials are technically Even-cost (Zero being an even #). This means they work with Genn Greymane, reflecting Baku the Mooneater's synergy with Quests.
A reminder for the Burden would take the form of a purple gem, just like the orange gem for Quests: when you hover over it in-game, you would see the token card.
Also, like with Journey to Un'Goro, you have to assume there will be other cards related to your Trial released at the same time. When you go to upvote other people's Trials, you shouldn't think about them in a vacuum.
Competition Process
Preview Phase (Starts Now! Ends 21:00 UTC 20/9/2018) During this Phase, the Discussion Topic is made available, previewing this week's competition theme. Entry and Early Voting Phase (Starts 21:00 UTC 20/9/2018, Ends 21:00 UTC 24/9/2018) During this Phase, the Submission Topic is made available for your submissions. You may also, of course, feel free to give early up-votes to any submissions that you like! Voting Phase (Starts 21:00 UTC 24/9/2018, Ends 21:00 UTC 25/9/2018) During this Phase, the Submission Topic will be locked, so no more entries may be submitted. Instead, use this time to browse the submissions and up-vote your favorites! Final Phase (Starts 21:00 UTC 25/9/2018, Ends 21:00 UTC 26/9/2018) During this Phase, the Discussion Topic will also be locked, and a new Poll Topic will go up. Discussion will be allowed to continue in the Poll Topic, and it will also include all the qualifying finalists and poll to decide the winner of the competition!
Discussion Topic Rules
To make sure that everything runs smoothly, we need to reserve the Submission Topic for submissions only. Everything else goes here. What is everything else, you might ask?
Rules or Process. Do you have a question about the competition's process? Do you need clarification about one of the entry requirements? Are you not sure whether your entry adhered to the rules? Ask here!
Feedback or Ideas. Do you have some ideas you'd like to run by others before settling on one? Do you need help balancing or wording your entry? Do you need help finding art that will fit your card? Or do you just want feedback from the community on your entry? You're in the right place! Remember, although you are allowed to make minor tweaks to your entry after you've submitted it, you're only allowed one submission per week, so make sure that you've settled on your card for sure beforehand.
Discussion! Do you have thoughts on other people's entries? Are there directions you don't like that you're seeing too many people take? Or directions you'd like to see more people take? Would you like to help others and contribute to a greater community understanding of Hearthstone card design and balance? This is where you want to be!
All of that said, please refrain from the following:
Posting TONS of Ideas. Discussion topics become an absolute mess if everybody is posting a dozen different ideas. Please post not more than 3 distinct ideas at a time. Any more than that and we'll have to delete your post.
Advertising Your Entry. Please don't pop in here just to advertise your entry only to never be heard from again. This includes only asking short, generic, or insincere questions like "Thoughts?" or "Do you think this is interesting?". Yes, getting feedback on your entry is one of the purposes of this topic, but we're not just here for other people to help you. We're here for you all to help each other. 12 hours after this competition begins, there should be plenty of other posts here for you to give specific feedback or for you to comment on a trend. If you post your entry for feedback after this time and do not also offer some form of substantial commentary, critique, or praise of others' work, you may find your post deleted.
Plagiarism. Many people post their ideas here before finalizing them in the submission topic. Directly plagiarizing those ideas to post in the submission topic yourself is absolutely not acceptable.

Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3
I feel like this type of prompt would work better as a mini-comp rather than a full one, but I digress. Where's my competition where people design a Time Traveler card? But I digress, this is still going to be a fun idea.

*shrugs* Maybe. However, this is the only theme I've ever truly wanted and the boss-man shadows gave me the okay :)

Well, it went something like this (Not actually):
Link: TRIALS
Shadows: Sure, you can do turtles.
Link: YAY! WCDCCCCCCCCCCCCCC
On a side note, it seems like an original and interesting idea :P
How do you add the legendary dragon, but not the legendary gem? Is that a requirement? If yes, what card generator did you use?
Under the Custom watermark section, you have to tick the box that says "Force Apply Dragon". Technically you're supposed to do that for Legendary token cards: they removed the gem but left the dragon. Edit: I won't hold it against you if you leave the gem on the Burden :P

So, I just came up with a really stupid idea. The trial effect may be too powerful, but the card is intentionally stupid, and yes I think that's a valid response.

Put this together more for clarification rather than actual submission. But, with the "don't think in a vacuum" clause, would something like...
...be what you're referring to, since we can assume that, if Blizzard were to release a card like this, they'd also release, in the same expansion, a bunch of "Affected by Spell Damage" cards like Unexpected Results? If we were to submit ideas that would need to be considered out of a vacuum, should we comment, specifically, on the types of cards they'd be good for in our submission post? (So if I were to submit this, I should include in my post "Imagine if Blizzard released more cards like Unexpected Results?")
So, here's my first idea. I like the Trial and the Burden by themselves, but I'm not sure if they work together very well.
You don't really need to say "permanently": all of the benefits are supposed to be permanent (unless it's something obvious, like "Draw 3 cards on your first turn.") Like my Paladin Trial gives those buffs to every minion you play for the entire game.
If you recall I also tried to do the Spell Damage route for the Mage, but I gave up on it because I couldn't find an appropriate balance. I think you found a Burden that balances it better, although you're not constrained by the intended lore as I was heh

That's my hope, anyway, that people will think more critically when they see the Trials other have created and consider the cards that would supposedly go with it. Un'goro did just that with their Quests, handing out Taunts for the Warrior and whatnot. It doesn't make sense that one's Trial card would release with no additional support.
I like your Trial, by the way. That's a creative way to get around the Mage's Spell Damage problem.

Well, I've also thought of a Mage card that has to do with wanting a lot of knowledge, altough its burden is a bit different.
This card features the classic flavour of Mages in RPGs: they can cast very powerfull magic, but they are so dedicated to study that their body is weak and frail. I think the theme is pretty good, but I'm not sure if it's interesting enough from a gameplay point of view.
On a side note, I also considered this alternative effect for Bookworm: "Your Hero has 20 Health". What do you prefer?
I'll review your ideas tomorrow, guys. It's 0:15 here and I get up early tomorrow.

The "permanently" was mostly just so every line would be roughly even in wording and so "Spell Damage +3" would be all on one line.

The card meant to symbolize the eternal struggle between Light and Shadow within the Priest class. The card also discourage you from using your own Hero Power and a large portion of your heal card. And if your opponent is a Priest, well... If you release a card like this, you'd likely also release cards like Auchenai Soulpriest or attack modification card to get around the drawback.
Encourages the deathrattle theme for hunter and adds a whole new strategy. You will lose all spells ,secrets and hero cards that you don't have in your opening hand, but you get free tokens when trading vs aggro and free powerful effects when facing control.

(and the burden "Wake me in 5 minutes")
