10 July? That seems horribly short to me. Will all phases be like this?
Also are we allowed to re-use the flavor of a past expansion/class? Yes I want to make a cooking themed expansion.
This first phase is 2 weeks. Current plan is for every expansion phase to be 3 weeks long (well, 20 days, and then 1 for upvoting or polling, maybe 2 days for polling the final).
I see no reason to specifically disallow the flavour of a past expansion or class. I wouldn't allow a re-hash of any keywords though. EDIT: Discussing it more with the other mods, we've decided to allow people to re-use things like keywords if they feel the need to. However, you should be careful not to just create an expansion that just re-uses many of your old cards, as that will be disqualified.
So, I have a question: Does the replacement for HoF cards NEED to be corresponding? For example: I HoF out a Neutral Legendary and a Priest Epic card. Do I have to replace them with a Neutral Legendary and Priest Epic or can i just rotated in a Priest Legendary and a Neutral Epic?
I'm gonna say yes, they need to be corresponding. Otherwise you're not solving the problem with rotating cards, you're just creating even more of a problem. In your example, Priest now has double the legendaries of every other class, but one less epic... for no reason. I don't see why this disparity should exist.
I'm going to assume you just can't? And if so, is there a way to make cards with custom expansion logos? And are those logos even a requirement for the contest?

Logos are by no means required. If you want something, it's easy enough just to find a picture to add a few words onto.

I think by "logos", he means card watermarks.

I made a really quick draft for the first phase, just an idea of what the year would be called and which cards I'm likely to send to oblivion Wild, and I'd like to generate some discussion on whether I made the right choices (also if the icon is actually as good as I think and if it justifies choosing a somewhat "plain" animal).
That is, of course, assuming I'm going to take part in this, which I probably will 'cus I'm finally going on vacation about two to three weeks from now. Now let's cut the crap and get on to what matters.
THE YEAR OF THE SHARK
My idea here was to establish a cycle: first comes an aquatic beast (like the Kraken), then a terrestrial one (Mammoth), and finally, a flying one (Raven).
Since this would come right after the Year of the Raven, it would have to be an aquatic animal, and seeing as we haven't gotten a reptile as of yet, I thought, at first, it should be the Year of the Hydra.
However, I didn't wanna start a trend of marine monsters, so I changed my mind and went with the Year of the Shark. I think it's fine to use a fish this time around, since the Year of the Kraken is represented by a squid-like monster, not the kind more akin to fish we see depicted in North Sea Kraken. This and I found this sweet icon that I think fits in really well with the art style of previous years.
This card is everything a low-cost minion shouldn't be: it's hard to remove, as it has the best possible statline for its cost, and it can easily snowball out of control if left unchecked. I've always hated this card, even before it's version on steroids was printed for Shaman and created one of the worst, most stale metas the game's ever had. Anyone who ever faced a Mana Wyrm, Coin, Mana Wyrm on turn one probably hates it as well. Time to say goodbye to this piece of shitty design.
It serves an entire different purporse whatsoever, but it's a Common on the same mana slot and provides the class with survivability after they lost their best defensive spell, Ice Block.
It's either this or Battle Rage. Both cards are very powerful draw engines, but Divine Favor can turn the tide of a game from what would seem like certain defeat. I just have to figure out which one will make things easier for me when I have to design cards for the future expansions.
A low cost, reasonably powerful card to make Pally's Classic set a little bit less worse. There really aren't that many Rare cards which I think would be a fitting replacement for Divine Favor, so I guess this one will have to do.
Another overstated 1-drop. I actually don't think this one is as much a problem as Mana Wyrm, but I'm struggling to decide which card I should rotate, and this seems like a fine candidate. Zoo pretty much never dies because of how powerful the Warlock Hero Power is. On top of that, the class also happens to have the best 1-drops to support that kind of strategy. I don't think Hall of Faming Flame Imp will kill Zoo, nor do I want that to happen, but seeing how Blizzard has justified rotating cards based on how much play they see before, I think this is an acceptable decision.
I don't think it would hurt to have either of those two moved to Classic. They're both pretty good, but fair cards and have seen similar amount of play in their time as Flame Imp has, proportionally.
I thought about rotating some other cards (namely, Gadgetzan Auctioneer, Mind Control Tech, Doomsayer, Frothing Berserker, even Preparation) but ultimately decided to leave them be for various reasons. That might change as I'm still not sure about Flame Imp.
The showcase cards will come later.
EDIT: I thought of using my expansion, currently in the making, as the second or third set in the year, as I plan to introduce some combo cards with it that might not be suitable for two years of Standard.
For the first one (aka the weakest), I thought of going with an Arena-themed expansion called BEYOND THUNDERDROME, which would introduce a new keyword called Draft. All the cards would have something to do with the themes of gladiatorial combat, blood sport, some illegal activities behind the scenes (such as the trafficking of wild animals) and the such.
Theme sounds cool. Not sure about having an Arena-only keyword. But my real question: how did you make that shark icon?

While i applaud and appreciate the love for Arena, for me personally, this is like the worst way to spice up arena drafting. I have seen similar concepts in the past and they were all bulky and not very good. Not to mention, the amount of wording will severely restrict the design space down the line.
Blizzard's Arena Exclusive cards, as in cards that you can only draft in arena, are a perfect way of goin about it. I understand you cant rly do it this way for purposes of this comp, so you have to do something like Draft keyword, but it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Im sorry if im just stepping on your idea from the start, but i felt like mentioning it before you go further, if my opinion is of any interest to you ;-)
I suppose if you would make just a few of these cards as an "experiment" in just one expansion, it could be plausible as something Blizzard would do, so it wouldnt look that weird, dunno.
I'm sad to hear that. :/ I first came up with this idea even before the first time they made Arena-only cards (that time when people voted one for each class), and my goal was to make them playable in Constructed as well by having an additional effect. Sure, not all of them would be viable (like Cunning Poacher), but they wouldn't just be vanilla minions outside of Arena. There's also a key difference between these and the cards Blizzard has made so far, which is the ability to control which cards you get to choose from to some degree.
I made only 4 cards (actually six but I scrapped a couple) and I did not intend to make it a very big thing, at most one for each class (that is, if I somehow decided every class should get one). And yeah, it was meant to be a one time thing, limited to Beyond Thunderdrome.

I just googled "shark icon" ("shark silhouette" would work too) and replaced the kraken icon with photoshop. If you find an icon you like, I can make one for you too.
Is there any reptilian(or something like that) race in WoW universe? If yes, is there any place where it appears mostly?(like pandarens and Pandaria) If no(to any of these questions), can i make an expansion which isn't provided by lore?
There's the saurok, a race created by the mogu to serve as slaves back when they still ruled Pandaria. They're not animals though, so I don't think it fits in the zodiac.
@waterwalker my year would be year of the snake, and i was going to made an expansion that will be saurok themed.(because lizards and snakes are both reptiles)
Apparently I missed some sweet icons yesterday. Now, which one do you think I should go with? Those would be the Year of the Shark, the Hydra and the Siren.
Excited to introduce the very early stages of my idea.
"It has been said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly's wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world"
I have the makings of three expansion themes that tie into this theory.
One is a concept around Terrain and Weather effects
The second is looking into the concept of Fate and will have a time/space theme
The third is much more loose in terms of theme so far but it will revolve around the idea of pets. Loyal companions that will die to protect you. They all have a bolf ramshield effect and offer a buff to your hero as long as they survive. There will be a legendary pet for each class in this expansion. Non legendary pets may/may not exist too not sure yet.
So there you have it. Am I on a decent track folks before I commit more effort to these ideas?
@waterwalker - Thank you, I'll send you an image once I pick one! I also vote for your Hydra, it looks awesome!
@Tomerick88 - I like it! Butterflies are fanciful creatures but that quote portents doom and uncertainty. Very cool. Your different keywords are interesting, I wonder how they will play out. However, I'd caution against overdoing it. You don't need a keyword for each expansion and don't want your year to be too complicated.

I'll definitely take it on board about not overdoing it but personally I'm going to be looking for entries that have something unique for each expansion. Granted that doesn't have to be a key word it could be something like a spell stone but it will need something. Every single expansion to date has had either a key word or a mechanic that it introduces so if one doesn't have such a thing it's going to really lack in flavour.
I think the key will be not making your entire expansion devoted to that one keyword or mechanic so that it can still link in with the other two coherently.
I get the feeling I'm going to end up feeling like marvel designing the cinematic universe by the end of his competition lol.
Not the final thing i hope but it's just about the idea ATM, i'm trying to go with all desert themed expansions which would fit pretty well with this i hope. My ideas are Ahn'Qiraj/Silithus, Uldum, and Tanaris so i hope that can work out. Regardless it was probally somewhere in the original post but i couldn't find what the final size of all expansions should be.

On the subject of Keywords: while you definitely don't want to overdo it with complicated effects, something to consider is that the Year of the Mammoth added four new Keywords to the game: Quest, Adapt, Poisonous, and Lifesteal. The latter two already existed in some form, but still. As long as you have a good reason for including so many Keywords, I wouldn't be completely scared off from the idea. It helps if some or all of them are exclusive to their respective expansions, like Quest, Adapt, and Echo are (Rush is expected to continue seeing use moving forward).
Something else to keep in mind is that no existing Keyword requires 3 lines or more to explain itself; at least in English, anyway. If your Keyword's explanation is a paragraph, your Keyword is too complicated lel
Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3
Question: would Choose One icons count as tokens for the submission? I've got a keyword idea that's mechanically similar. I don't NEED to make the options for it to be understandable though.

To add on to this question, what about choice cards that work functionally just like Choose One cards, but not. Here's a card from one of my sets. Would this count as a card with unique tokens for the purpose of the rules? This is intended to be a one-off gimmick card for the set, but you never know.
The choosing is functionally identical to Choose One cards, but in and of itself is not a Choose One card because of different mechanics.

In your example, Priest now has double the legendaries of every other class, but one less epic... for no reason. I don't see why this disparity should exist.
You can find me here! Good luck everyone!
Just a quick question, how do you upload custom expansion logos to Hearthcards?
You could probably ask Dnikko, creator of Hearthcards.

I'm going to assume you just can't? And if so, is there a way to make cards with custom expansion logos? And are those logos even a requirement for the contest?
Logos are by no means required. If you want something, it's easy enough just to find a picture to add a few words onto.
Wished to be pink.
Then did.
Then fired myself.
Then did again.
I think by "logos", he means card watermarks.

Theme sounds cool. Not sure about having an Arena-only keyword. But my real question: how did you make that shark icon?

I just googled "shark icon" ("shark silhouette" would work too) and replaced the kraken icon with photoshop. If you find an icon you like, I can make one for you too.
EDIT:
There's the saurok, a race created by the mogu to serve as slaves back when they still ruled Pandaria. They're not animals though, so I don't think it fits in the zodiac.
Greetings ya'll.
Submission Topic is up!
I want a new title, but Flux won't let me have one,
@waterwalker my year would be year of the snake, and i was going to made an expansion that will be saurok themed.(because lizards and snakes are both reptiles)

Geez. Which photoshop do you do for that icon? And what do you want to create a Year of the Dragon icon for me? Money? Custom cards? Baby goats?

I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3
I have finished my Year icon. It's the Year of the Unicorn
It's far from a great one, but i'm actually fine with it. My image editing skills are bad...
