Wow, another Season done. These things just seem to fly by.
Season 7 saw us help Deathwinghost his own show with minimal permanent casualties; celebrate the release of a new Overwatch map which featured an abundance of Hearthstone references; dive deep into the dank depths of the Witchwood in threeseparatecompetitions, each celebrating a different aspect of the new expansion; and create a bunch of super strong Arena exclusive cards which were recently blown out of the water by Blizzard's upcoming Taverns of Time cards.
This thread is the place at the end of the Season to voice your opinion on how things are run - what do you want more of, less of, done differently, not done at all, added, subtracted, multiplied, divided or sent to infinity to find its absolute limit - that's the sum of my available maths knowledge, so don't expect any more tangents. Throw all the questions and suggestions you have here and we'll do our best to respond to them.
You can look forward to Season 8 of the competition starting likely before the end of June - this one's getting planned a bit more carefully to accommodate mods who are off on holidays in the Summer, so we don't have an exact date yet, but I don't think we'll end up running the break until July. The next Big Competition will start at the same time, as usual.
Nah jk, I think this season was pretty okay, not too shabby! I actually participated more and definetely was better than the other years, however, there was a single issue that bothers me, and it's the repetition of themes.
Actually in this season there were a good amount of them (Odd/Even cards, has been done in 2nd Season, 1-Cost Spells, very similar to the 0-Cost one in the first Season, So Bad It's Good, again, similar from one from the first Season, two pairs that synergise or contradict, pretty much a less restrictive "Feugen and Stalagg need Friends", a Battlecry AND Deathrattle one (Echo...Echo...Echo, Season 4). Those counts like, a 4th part of the competitions were just a copy of past competitions, which is kind of new in a SINGLE season to be honest. I only have that complain though, everything else was fine and handled nicely.
Also, may be just by coincidence with the just released Witchwood for two of those copies to appear, may be just me, but I feel that could be a turning point.
But anyways, this was a good season notheless :3
PD: I also LOVED the class competition, well done, probably the best one for now.
Echoing off of Demonxz95, I was excited for the Winner's Gallery when it opened, but a bit disappointed when it was being updated over the course of the competitions. Other than that, I really enjoyed participating in what was my first season of card design!
Im glad i could introduce the Arena Exclusive Cards theme to WCDC and mby bring a little bit of arena to the ppl who dont play it very often (or at all). I hope someone will choose it again next season so we can do a Part 2 :) I dont actually mind repeating themes too much, if they r the ones that r just pretty basic, since the release of new sets and introduction of new mechanics allow ppl to make some new interesting designs in the old themes. Dont get me wrong, i love a new unique theme as much as the next guy, but i dont think bringing back few old themes is a bad idea either ;-)
Anyways, thanks to everyone who participated this season and CG to all the finalists and the winners. Lets hope the next season will be at least as good! :)
One thing I think could be cool is more special competitions alongside the weekly ones. I'm not talking huge affairs like the mega gauntlet competitions, but more small comps that aren't just for single standard/wild cards. Could be for making things like a taverns through time card, a boss for the latest adventure, some tavern brawl rules, or whatever else. There were a few prompts like this in the weekly comps this year with the arena exclusive card comp, and the comp to make a ysera/dk card, and breaking away from the normal scope of the card comps on occasion is really cool in my opinion.
On top of what's already been said about the repeated comp issue, I would also add the "vague theme" comp one, i.e. comps for which there is no clear, measurable way of defining like the "make a card with a huge drawback" one, which often result in an incoherent mess or in a DQ fiesta depending on how lenient the mods are.
Actually, I just thought of something that might be beneficial for the future: It would be helpful to send a reminder once voting closes for a competition to its creator that they have a wildcard pick. I happened to be busy during that competition and wasn't checking the forum particularly often -- however, I would have gotten the notification about a private message which then would have led me to considering whether or not I wanted to use it. Verification on whether or not it is going to be used, I believe, would be better for both parties involved.
One more thing: I've recently discovered a new passion, making dungeon bosses with decklists associated, and thought it would be great if there was a "fan creation" option on hearthpwn's deckbuilder tool to allow us to include cards from multiple classes, existing uncollectible cards, as well as (a few) custom cards in a deck. I would be usufel for both custom dungeon/adventure bosses AND for custom classes' deck recipes.

I believe there r big plans to overhaul deck creation page and everything around it, so this could definitely be part of that. But it wont be anytime soon :/
Hey so, I have a quickie little question here. In the last big comp, one of the teams included Tox AND Oto. So I was wondering if co-op teams are officially allowed as competitors in the upcoming big comp.

It has been allowed for pretty much all big comps, except for the Expansion competition last year i believe.
So unless it's specifically mentioned, feel free to team up!

Awesome! In light of the World Cup who wants to form an 11 person creative team with me?

Great idea. If everyone is on the same team, everyone wins, right?

All aboard the Season 8 hype train!
Also, what about the Winner's Gallery? Is that being updated?

It's gonna be dungeon runs/monster hunt 100% lel. That's obvious. It's "new" and it's the only big comp the mods have never done before.
